When we first conceptualized the DCist Exposed Photography Show in late 2006, we simply hoped that a few of our regular contributors would submit photos to our contest and gallery show. But after nearly breaking fire codes at the gallery that first year with large crowds eager to see local talent, we knew we were on to something. Since then, DCist Exposed has featured some of the best local photography out there, showcasing images of Washington, D.C.'s unique culture, produced by the people who live and work here. The 2011 DCist Exposed show will be our fifth -- we don't know where the time has gone (probably because we've spent most of it planning the next show!) -- and we want to celebrate the milestone properly.
DCist, in collaboration with Ten Miles Square, will publish a special Fifth Year Anniversary magazine featuring winning photography from Exposed's first four years, along with the soon-to-be announced winners for 2011. We can't wait to feature each of these amazing photographs in one place, neatly packaged and ready to adorn coffee tables across the region.
The magazine will be ready for purchase in time for 2011 Exposed opening night, and will be available both in person and online for $25 (or less -- we'll know better once we nail down exactly how many pages it will be), along with a free iPad version. We may also offer a hardback edition through online purchase only (we're still working that out; and don't need initial funding for it). Your donation will help us create and design the magazine, and let us reward the fantastic local photographers whose work we're printing.
Each donation level (except the $10 level) ensures the donor at least one free copy of the magazine. A select group of Exposed-winning photographers have generously offered a license of their winning photos to us, so if you donate at the $50 level or above, you'll get to choose your favorite photo from this group and we'll send you an 8x10 unframed print. If you donate at the $250 or $500 level, we'll print your name (and business, if applicable) in the magazine. If you donate $500 or more and don't have a business logo, we'll be in touch about crediting you appropriately in the magazine.
We greatly appreciate donations at the $25 level as a way to "pre-order" the magazine -- we'll use this to gauge interest in the project and decide how many copies to order.
Please make sure to double-check the accuracy of your contact information when you donate, so we can get in touch once the project is funded.
