About

Introducing the world of Daisy Button

Our goal with this Kickstarter campaign is to raise the funds to print our first book - DB Adventures: Building a Community Garden. In this book readers will get introduced to seven great friends led by the very enterprising Daisy Button. We follow this group of gifted and talented kids on their journey to create a community garden and backyard market. We see how they pull in mentors and resources to achieve their goals. Along the way, the characters also learn important lessons about friendship, problem solving, exploring their own gifts, and about believing that Anything Is Possible if they work together.

We just need that "kickstart" to kick off the dream – creating the first story in a whole series of DBAdventures aimed at inspiring and empowering a great generation of kids who are ready to make a difference in the world.

The book synopsis

Building a Community Garden is a story about how Page, the school reporter, gets assigned an article to write about questions kids would like answers to. When it appears that the students at their magnet school are more interested in issues going on in their world, than what they will be having for dinner or what's on t.v., Page brings the question to her group of friends at Daisy Button’s clubhouse. Soon the group discussion gives Daisy Button an idea for their next adventure – what if they could work with the Ecology Club from their school to create a Community Garden. Then during the summer, the group could collaborate with her Future Business Leaders of America club to create a Backyard Market to sell some of the harvested fruits and vegetables, and donate the rest to the Center for Food Action.

The newest member of the club is Basil Hobbs, a foster child that just moved into the house next door to Daisy Button. Daisy soon takes the shy and insecure Basil Hobbs under her wing and welcomes him as a member of their team. As the leader of the group, Daisy has created adventures in the past where she utilizes each of her friend’s strengths to achieve their goals. But this time they really want to make a difference by developing a small business and giving back to their community. Follow the group on their journey to create a community garden and the Backyard Market.

The history of DBAdventures

Lee and I started working on creating Daisy Button and her 6 friends back in the late 90’s. We created three activity boxes for kids that helped them release their fears, target their goals and open up their imaginations to journaling, based on my work with kids in the Foster Care system. The Journaling Box became the launch pad for Daisy Button and her friends.

We always knew we wanted to create a series of Daisy Button Adventure stories, showing kids that Anything Is Possible. But it was only recently that the timing came together for us working moms.

Last year Lee and I launched DaisyButtonAdventures.com, a website in which parents and kids can learn more about the seven characters and our program. On the site we created a news "portal" in which each of the characters blogs about their interests and shares inspirational stories and news about positive philanthropic efforts and kids that are making a difference.

Our ultimate goal is to create a series of books based on each of the seven characters which combine education, fun and technology. With each of the books, we are creating an accompanying interactive curriculum and activity booklet. Through DBAdventures we want to create a complete set of products and services designed to provide engaging, educational content with a socially conscious focus for kids 7 to 12 years old. The stories will also be developed as e-books and downloadable apps for electronic devices.

Our products will be ideal for use in schools, summer camps and clubs. The program is being tested at Transfiguration Academy in Bergenfield, NJ this spring, as well as in a summer program at William Paterson University July 2011.

Please note that we ONLY seek to get our first book printed with this Kickstart effort. It is the initial break that we need. We'll take it from there. But we truly believe that if we are fortunate enough to reach our goal and print our book, our supporters will someday see the whole dream grow as we go on to realize our ultimate plan.
