Digital Tiers Rewards

Here's a visual guide of the rewards backers will receive at the Pixies, Skeletons and Halflings pledge levels, and answers to some of the frequently asked questions concerning these rewards.

The Forum is a private discussion forum, whose content and previews will only be accessible to Kickstarter backers at the $3 Pixies level and above. This is where members of our team will share regular updates on the development of Small World 2 software, post photos and mock-ups of the physical rewards manufactured, and interact with all our Kickstarter backers. This forum will launch upon the (successful) completion of this campaign.

Backers at the $ 15 Skeletons level and above will receive 1 digital copy of Small World 2, the base game, playable on 1 platform of their choice. The only platform confirmed thus far is iPad, but check this page regularly for future updates.

Backers at this level and above will also gain access to 3 new Special Powers, specially developed by Philippe Keyaerts for this campaign. These exclusive Kickstarter Special Powers will be unlocked by our servers; anyone who plays an online game started by a Backer who owns these Special Powers will be able to play them, but only Backers will be able to initiate games containing these powers, similar to what happens when you play a (real) board game with its owner.

Backers at the $ 30 Halflings level and above will also receive a copy of every digital expansion funded through this campaign, for the platform they selected as their Skeletons reward; So far, this list includes Cursed!, Grand Dames and Be Not Afraid... They will also receive 3 new exclusive Races developed by Philippe specially for this campaign, using the same server mechanism as for the exclusive Special Powers.

People who already own Small World iPad but wish to gain access to the exclusive new Races and Special Powers described above can pledge at the Skeletons or Halflings level. Before the game ships, they will get a chance to designate a friend as the recipient of their game and still keep the new Kickstarter Races and Special Powers for themselves.

People who already own Small World iPad but choose not to contribute to this campaign will receive a free upgrade to Small World 2 and any expansions (Cursed!, Grand Dames) they already owned, but will have to purchase any other new expansion (Be Not Afraid... and other expansions that may get funded through this campaign) on their own.

@ Brandon, no you will be fine.

@Days of Wonder: In that case will it screw things up if we already have the base app but no expansions? Even if I'm unable to gift anything to anybody, I'd still like to fully upgrade my base-only digital copy for a $30 pledge.

    3. Days of Wonder 2-time creator on January 18, 2013

@ Graham: Not quite. What you can do is gift the base game and its expansions to someone and keep the Kickstarter races and special powers to yourself.

But not gift the base game and keep the expansions to yourself or vice versa. The App and Cursed, Grand Dames and Be Not Afraid expansions all go together and must be redeemed by the same person or account.

Just to confirm, if I get the Halfling pledge I get the following.

I can gift the base game, keep the special races and powers and all the expansions for myself as well as get the free upgrade? In addition is get cardboard sets of the races and powers for my game as part of the bonus?

    5. Brandon Debes on January 18, 2013

Ah, thanks Björn! I found the comment you're referring to now.

@Brandon: They said that they would work out a way for you to keep the expansions and fre races and gift the base game. It´s somewhere among the comments in the big thread.

Yeah, no way I'm going to spend $30 for the 3 exclusive races and powers. I'll just grab Be Not Afraid when it releases, and wish you guys luck with this campaign. There is zero reason why you should be charging that much for those of us that have supported the app up to this point. I would pay $10, possibly even $15 for something that is worth $2. $5 at best. Instead, I'll end up contributing $0. Do the math, DoW.

If I already own the Small World app but not the existing expansions, will I be able to gift my free copy of the base app at this level and keep the free expansions for my own copy, or is it all or nothing with the gifting aspect?

Thank you Christopher, for confirming that those of us who have previously supported DOW with our purchases of the base game and the expansions will need to cough up $30 for just the Kickstarter exclusive races and powers (though I'm not sure that was your intention).

From what I can tell SW2 is a completely different app. Not an upgraded version of the current one. If you have previously purchased the ipad version all of the upgrades you have purchased thus far will be refreshed in the new app. Be Not Afraid will be an in app purchase as will any of the other expansions not purchased before now if the kickstarter project is not supported. The new app will also come with the exclusive races and powers with supporting the campaign. The exclusive races and powers will not be available for purchase later.

As the previous commenters mentioned; it seems the value for fans of the game who already have supported you by purchasing SmallWorld 1 and its expansions on iPad is pretty slim. I fall in that group and would like to give you extra money for the upgrade to v.2 and to get the KS-exclusive races and powers, however $30 seems like a steep price for a game I already bought.

I realize I get the new 'Be Not Afraid' expansion as part of that and I can 'donate' my extra copy to someone else, but the value proposition still seems slim. I'm hoping that additional platforms and expansions funded by this campaign sweeten the pot sufficiently, but it would be nice if there was another funding level for those who just want the KS-exclusive races/powers and already own the game.

Ditto. I've already purchased the base game and both expansions. I shouldn't be forced to spend $30 just to get the new powers and races, which are the only items of incremental value to me. Very ill-considered.

If I already own the iPad version and the 2 expansions. (I am totally cool buying Be Not Afraid and any others that get added down the line.)

My main question - is the ONLY way for me to get the 3 new races and 3 new powers to really spend $30? Or will you have an IAP that I can use to get them after you launch?
