About the DWJO
The David White Jazz Orchestra is a 17-piece ensemble (5 saxophones, 4 trumpets. 4 trombones, piano, bass, drums and conductor) that performs the original compositions and arrangements of jazz composer David White exclusively. We've been performing since the fall of 2007. Our first album, Flashpoint, was successfully funded on Kickstarter. Recording and releasing it was an amazing experience and the final product was met with great reviews.
The Musicians of the DWJO
MUSICAL DIRECTOR- David White
In 2013, we will record and release a full-length studio album of new compositions. The recording session will take place on February 9, 2013 at The Bunker Studio and the finished product will be released in June 2013. We're seeking your financial support to help make this a reality.
What will the money be used for?
Once we meet our Kickstarter fundraising goal, we will use the money we raise on the following:
- Recording studio time at The Bunker Studio
- Mixing by audio engineer Aaron Nevezie
- CD replication and packaging by Oasis Disc Manufacturing
- Album artwork and graphic design by Sean Doyle
- Digital and physical distribution through CD Baby
A Special 'Thank You'
We are truly and deeply thankful for the support of our Kickstarter backers. It's touching to have a group of people who believe enough in you to support your project when it's in its earliest stages. As a way of saying thanks, in addition to the other backer rewards, BACKERS WHO CONTRIBUTE ANY AMOUNT WILL HAVE THEIR NAMES LISTED IN THE LINER NOTES OF THE CD. On our last project, we also listed the names of our backers and you can view those CD liner notes here: Flashpoint liner notes
Our Track Record
In 2011, our debut album was a success thanks to the generous support of our Kickstarter backers. Many listeners enjoyed the music on our first CD and we also received a number of very positive reviews:
"Trombonist David White has made a wonderful contribution to the big band genre with Flashpoint, an album of mostly originals that taps the wells of orchestral jazz with imagination, cleverness and style."

Risks and challenges
Recording a studio album with a group of this size is a formidable challenge. There are many moving parts and it will take a concentrated effort to keep them working in concert. The biggest risk will be failing to raise the amount of funding we need to complete the project on time. Once the music itself is recorded, a number of challenges remain for post-production. If setbacks do occur, we will work diligently to complete each piece of the project, separately if necessary, until we can deliver the final finished product. We feel that the experience we gained from completing our debut album will be invaluable to us in finding solutions to the problems that may arise in this new project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
