Hello music lovers!
David Mayfield here, trying to fund a new full length studio album. It's been five years since fans, friends, family, and confused late night cybernet surfers funded my sophomore album with a successful Kickstarter campaign.
I have a brand-new batch of songs that I would love to present to you! Currently I have a budget of about four US dollars, two wooden nickels, a half used Kohls gift card, & a real nice watch. You’d think I should be able to make an album with that. However, with inflation, it’s just not enough these days.
This is where y'all come in. That is if you like me, you want to support independent music, and more importantly, if you want to be a part of this project with me. Together, we can make something special.
You might be wandering, "Why does this handsome young Santa need all this Mucho Robert De Niro anyway?" I will break it down for you: I need cheddar for recording, clams for artwork, sawbucks for musicians, moolah for promotion, pesos for distribution, dough for tour support, loot for lavish drug habits. And let's not forget some Tubman’s for Kickstarter and Amazon fees.
It is unclear now what the future holds for me. After unsuccessful stints in amateur taxidermy, Avett Brothers erotic fan fiction, ghost hunting, & Bluegrass Scientology, It is clear that I have absolutely no skills whatsoever aside from my lackluster musical abilities and obvious sex symbol status. Discouraged by the fact that I has no money, got no skills, and I ain't gettin' no younger, I have become a recluse. Emerging from the shadows only when Jupiter aligns with Mars to kiss a few babies and sing a couple songs from "Frozen" at local karaoke bars before slivering away into an open drain pipe.
If the full amount of my goal is not reached within 24 days, then all of your pledges are refunded, and I keep nothing. So really, what do you have to lose? As a token of my appreciation I have prepared some enticing rewards for your generosity.
This album will be recorded at Compass Records on Music Row in the former home of Glaser Brothers Productions (a.k.a. “Hillbilly Central”) where the likes of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kinky Friedman and Tompall Glaser gave rise to country music’s “Outlaw” movement. Its also the studio where John Hartford's classic “Areoplane” album was recorded!!
It will be produced by multiple Grammy winning banjo virtuoso Alison Brown! Not only is Alison a fantastic artist in her own right, she has also produced some of my favorite albums of the last decade.
Never heard of me before? let me tell you a little about myself:
I was home-schooled, and grew up in a family band. For years we lived in Bill Monroe's 1956 tour bus "The Bluegrass Breakdown"
In my early twenties I moved to Nashville, TN and became a sideman.
I got the opportunity to write, record, & perform with my baby sister, Jessica Lea Mayfield
Then I joined the progressive bluegrass band Cadillac Sky.
Together we wrote and recorded an album produced by Dan Auerbach of "The Black Keys"
We toured the country with Mumford & Sons
I got to play a bunch of shows with The Avett Brothers!
In 2010 I started my own band "The David Mayfield Parade" I started touring extensively immediately and was pleasant;y surprised by the warm response of my debut album.
In 2012 I peed my pants for a Kickstarter video. That campaign was wildly successful and I more than doubled my goal!
I made my way into Phish Fashion:
I even won the attention of some Naked ladies:
Risks and challenges
Without your help I will be forced to record this album on my Wishland Kids Karaoke Machine, dub cassette copies myself, shrink wrap them with a hairdryer, and sell them out of a thrift store suitcase at seedy internet café open mic nights. There is no possible way I can make this album on my own. I need you!
I'm not asking for a handout, look at the list of cool rewards I've cooked up for you guys on the right side of this page. I know that your money is hard earned, so I intend to offer you something special in return.
Thank you from my heart,
