About this project
After an amazing month sport at the 2012 Olympic games this August. I felt compelled to create something documenting the achievements of the 85 different medal-winning nations. When following the media coverage of the games, the first thing I would do would be to check the standings in medal table, as I was always interested in which nations were out-performing others.
I was disappointed to find that there were no visual representations of this information, so comparing different nations, in particular, how they performed on each day of events became a difficult task, usually only possible by trawling back over previous days medal tables.
So I decided to create my own visual infographic of the data. Opting for a circular graphic detailing each nation's performance over the 16 days of events. (The table does not include data from the 25th of June - 27th June as no medals were awarded during these days).
The entire poster will be screen printed using Gold, Silver, Bronze and White ink on Black colorplan provided by GF Smith.
The poster visuals shown here are initial proposals. The data shown is all correct but the poster may evolve to include additional information such as a medal count for each nation and combined total for each region.
All Silver and Gold level backers will receive a thank you postcard.
Features in summary-
- All 85 medal-winning nations - Sorted alphabetically and by Olympic region (Europe, Pan America, Asia, Africa, Oceania). Featuring the highest earned medal for each day of events.
- Outstanding print quality - All posters will be screen printed using 4 different inks (Gold, Silver, Bronze and white)
- Amazing detail - The attention to detail for this poster has been second to none, the poster will be printed on A1 Black paper (841 x 594 mm 33.1 x 23.4 in) allowing the intricate details to be viewed clearly.
I understand my target is probably higher when compared with other kickstarter poster projects, however it is important to understand that the quality of the craft behind the posters. These are not just going to be printed digitally at the cheapest cost possible, but will be brought to life beautifully through the screen printed process.
I hope that this project is of interest to funders out there and that together we can help make this project a reality.

Risks and challenges
The poster design is nearly complete. If funding is reached I will finalise the design, ensuring the poster is up to the highest standard of quality. As a graphic designer with prior experience with working on screen printed projects (see: http://grfk.co.uk/project/august/) I feel I am qualified to complete this task.
I have been liasing with screen printers to attain an ideas of costs. Once the design is finished I will provide the printer with the artwork at which point the project will be in their hands. I will endevor to ensure that that printer is reptuable and likely to complete the project, however in the event of the printer not carrying out their services I will attempt to find an alternative printer.
Depending on the schedule of the printer, posters may be finished sightly later than scheduled. I will keep backers up to date with any developments and inform them immediately in any delays.
Once the printer has delivered the posters I will package the posters into cardboard tubes. The posters will then be sent to the backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
