Launch Party Photos

Posted by David Hellman & Tevis Thompson (Creator)

Hey everybody! Just wanted to share with you some photos from our Launch Party on April 25 at Mission: Comics and Art in San Francisco. It was truly a joyous occasion.

We met at the store and Tevis brought the several boxes of books that had been shipped to him, almost two hundred copies. I had never seen so many copies of Second Quest. It was very surreal and overwhelming to me. With help from our families we went about setting up the merch table, refreshments, and hanging posters on the back wall. As soon as 4pm rolled around there was a line of guests interested in books, shirts and posters.

Having never done a book signing before, I had imagined we'd be mingling more, but we were basically signing books the entire time. It was amazing to meet so many people interested in our work, many of them fans of our past work too.

At first I had a hard time writing in the beautiful, pristine books, but I got used to it. Everybody was incredibly gracious, nice and intelligent. It was a rush to chat with each person for a few moments. It seemed like there was a really fun party going on all around us, too!

Huge thanks to Leef Smith for hosting in his awesome store. We also couldn't have done it without our families. Thank you Ellen Zhou and Tyler Thompson for the all-important snacks and beverages. And thank you Shawne Benson, Debby Hellman (who took most of these photos) and Jesse Hellman for set-up help. Thanks Bret Victor for use of your awesome printer that produced the gigantic posters you see behind us in the photos. Thanks Ryan O'Donnell for the excellent, well-chosen music. And thank you Stacy Cohen for helping to organize and plan the event.

Our next public appearance is at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this weekend, May 9 and 10! If you're in the area, come say hello!

We plan to make the shirts available through Fangamer at some point, yes. Can't say exactly when, at the moment. The map posters are for sale, though!

Will those t-shirts be available through Fangamer? (or anywhere online)
They look cool! Glad the party went well.
