Set in a chaotic, alien universe where its guardians have turned on each other vying for ultimate godhood, Endogenesis is a competitive card game that features strategic free-for-all combat.
In this epic battle, you take on the role of a cosmic spirit with access to otherworldy realms. Collect Skills from the Realm of Knowledge to customize your character with different powers, and upgrade them with Shards that you earn by defeating your enemies.
During your turn, you're given freedom on how you perform actions, both in their order and frequency. With careful planning and a dash of creativity, you can set up devastating turns where you wipe out your enemies... or have your master plan backfire when an even better player counters your strategies with their Reaction Skills and Wonders!
Also joining the fray are vicious Monsters from the Realm of Chaos. The most powerful of these are called Legendary Monsters; killing them will reward its slayer with a Prism, a crystal needed to achieve godhood. Be the first to collect 3 Prisms and you win!
You'll love Endogenesis if...
...if you enjoy discovering new combinations of power with different themes for each playthrough.
...you love being able to set up elaborate combos, to produce powerful and game-changing outcomes.
...you thrive in complexity, where understanding the full potential of your abilities and the minor details of a game's mechanics can give you an edge.
...you're looking for intense but faster game sessions that last 1-2 hours.
The rulebook is a work in progress, which means it isn't final! Rules may still be tweaked, and graphics may still be altered.
Check out this Imgur album to see more photos of the prototype we ordered from our manufacturer. Certain aspects of the components might change later on, depending on the outcome of the campaign!
Before the fighting starts, all players receive Skills from the Realm of Knowledge and Shards to customize their characters with. Everyone begins with 3 base Health.
Equip the Skills you plan on using in 4 available slots. Place Shards below Skills to upgrade them, or discard to increase your maximum Health.
Once all players have completed customization, the game begins. Cards are drawn from the Realm of Chaos until a Monster is revealed.
Each round consists of each player taking their turns in a clockwise fashion. The Monster then takes its turn when all players have concluded theirs, ending the round and starting a new one.
You begin your turn by drawing 2 cards from the Realm of Knowledge, and then your Action Phase begins.
You can perform a number of actions during your Action Phase, the most important of which is using your Active Skills to attack and destroy your enemies. Skills require Energy to use, which you gain by discarding unwanted Skill cards from your hand or by using Artifacts. You can also equip new Skills, swap out old ones and upgrade your character by upgrading Skills and your Health — these can all be done in any order, so it's up to you to decide how to use your turn optimally!
During your opponent's turns, you may use hidden Reaction Skills to defend yourself. Apart from preventing damage, Reaction Skills can be used to set up traps & bluffs to turn the tide of battle.
Slaying players and Monsters alike gains you Shards and card draw that you can use to further build your character with. Legendary Monsters present a greater threat, but they reward their killer with a Prism when slain — collect 3 Prisms and you win the game!
As the battle rages on, you can further build your character by equipping new Skills and swapping out old ones. Replaced Skills are discarded, and newly equipped Skills can only be used on your next turn, so be careful when and how you customize your Skills.
As Shards are attached to the Skill slot and not the Skill card, you don't have to worry about losing Shards when swapping Skills — allocated Shards will apply to the newly equipped Skill.
The last of the four skill slots is reserved for Ultimate Skills, which can only be equipped when you have 3 non-Ultimate ones. Ultimate Skills offer greater power, but require more Shards to upgrade.
Every Skill belongs to a Skill Category. Equip those of the same Skill Category and you can ascend to its Class using a Glyph of Ascension artifact, gaining you powerful bonuses. However, once a Class is acquired, you cannot equip Skills of other Skill Categories for the rest of the game.
Alternatively, you can choose to instead mix and match Skills of different categories to find unconventional strategies!
Emerging from the Realm of Chaos, Monsters and Legendary Monsters are dangerous participants in an already chaotic battle royale.
Apart from having Active and Reaction skills, Monsters also have Initiative and Deathcry abilities that trigger when they appear and when they're killed respectively.
Legendary Monsters are especially powerful — some of which are so formidable that if they consider none of the players to be a threat currently, they will leave and return later. Killing Legendary Monsters rewards you with Prisms, which are required for victory.
Monsters are not all that the Realm of Chaos creates. Events present an unknown variable when drawn, producing an immediate effect can help or hurt players, while Distortions alter the state of the battlefield when drawn, producing effects that persist until their conditions are resolved.
The Realm of Wonder is an elusive plane, only appearing in the brief moments to reward those who achieve enlightenment and inspiration with Wonders.
Wonders are one-use abilities that can be instantly played from hand at no cost, to produce reality-defying miracles. Given their immense power, they are incredibly rare. There are 3 check points (5, 10 and 15) players must upgrade their Health to in order to acquire Wonders.
Big thanks for Matt, Will and Gil for having me for Geek Spiel's Table Crashers! Gameplay portion of the video starts at 22:10 onwards.

Endogenesis is primarily a passion project created by David Goh (creator of Hyperlixir) with the support of The Fandom Menace, a non-profit organization based in Singapore that supports local creatives.
David is a passionate gamer and multi-disciplinary designer who has found his calling in the nexus of profession and passion — the ever-evolving world of game-design. Loving the art of the game regardless of medium, he enjoys the study of game mechanics and their intrinsic relationship with elegant design.
The Fandom Menace is a collective of artists and enthusiasts keen on engaging and highlighting local talents by assisting in the development and production of original content here in Singapore. In addition to games like Endogenesis, TFM has also organised events like Live to Rise, an annual concert featuring Singaporean bands in support of suicide awareness and prevention.
Risks and challenges
As a project that involves the manufacturing and fulfillment of a physical product, there's always a risk of things not going smoothly — be it through oversights, delays or shipments just not arriving when it's supposed to.
This is our first Kickstarter, so in order to minimize risks, we've taken every precaution we possibly can. These are the biggest challenges that tabletop games Kickstarters generally face, and here's how we'll combat them:
Even before bringing Endogenesis to Kickstarter, we've ensured that the game has been fully developed, play-tested and designed to full. All art production is done and therefore will not factor into timelines from this point on.
Endogenesis only uses printed parts, so the risk of production complications is expected to be minimal. As some of us are graphic designers by trade, we also have significant experience with print production and file preparation, so we're confident that there'll be no delays on this front.
We've also chosen our manufacturing partners carefully. Based on the success of the project, we will be using either The Game Crafter (Funding goal: 100-400%) or Longpack games (Funding goal: 400%+). Both are popular choices with independent developers due to their commitment to quality and reliability.
Given that this is our first Kickstarter, we explicitly decided to keep things simple so that we don't overreach. That's why our pledge tiers are minimal, and we don't have a complicated system of additional rewards. On top of ensuring that our stretch goals have been carefully considered, budgeted and pre-planned, they're also kept intentionally modest so that timelines will not be significantly impacted.
SHIPPING & FULFILLMENT
Shipping can be a huge source of frustration for Kickstarter campaigns, as much of the process falls outside of our control. We believe that our approach to keeping things simple will help in this regard, as having just one version of the game to ship out reduces the chances of delivery errors and delays.
The estimated delivery date of October 2019 is for if we use Longpack games as our manufacturer. If we go with The Game Crafter instead, we expect to be able to ship the game faster by a few months.
We’ve done our homework diligently, both in the way of research and surrounding ourselves with friends and experts who are experienced in different stages of the fulfillment process. With their help, we’re confident that we’ll be able to overcome any hiccups as they happen and come out on top.
Above all else, we recognize the importance of being transparent and responsive to our backers. We promise to keep you updated at every step of the way, and be upfront with any issues or delays as they happen over the course of bringing Endogenesis to you. We’ll pack every single game box by hand and send it out if we have to… that’s our guarantee to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
