'The Dog Hunters' has already been getting 5-star reviews and everyone's asked if there'll be an illustrated version. There will be with your help. Even the smallest pledge is a great start, especially if you ask your friends to join you. You'll all be part of a project that's getting people all around the world buzzing.
Illustrating the book is a big task, as it's 330 pages long, and I need to do a minimum of 100 more drawings to bring the narrative to life.
Funds raised through will be help me get the job done quicker, then prepare them for publication, which involves lots of scanning and fiddling around in InDesign and Photoshop.
I will also import several hundred copies to New Zealand so that Kiwis can buy the book without incurring the extra, substantial postage costs.
The rest of the money money will be spent actively promote the book worldwide, including doing publicity in the UK and USA over December and January, and a lot more online activity.
Risks and challenges
The only challenge I face is doing the drawings while continuing to write the 2nd book. Plus I'm off promoting the first book over Xmas and New Year.
However, I've spent my life working as a creative person in advertising, so deadlines aren't only part of my life, I actually need them to perform at my best.
I intend to actively engage with sponsors on at least a weekly basis, usually more often, with updates on progress. I will post low rez images of all new drawings as they happen, and sponsors will be able to encourage me and nag me- I respond to pestering.
Most importantly, drawing is something that comes ridiculously easy to me, because I love doing it. I am very productive- up to three illustrations a day when I'm in the groove.
Another bit of good news is that doing the drawings for the first book is actually helping me write the second- because drawing is a very different process to writing, the two compliment and refresh and drive each other.
This is not a labour of love- I'm passionately committed to getting the illustrated version out, and I want the world to see the story of Gelert and Llewelyn.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
