Lone Star Theatre Company wants to bring David Davila’s play, ADAN Y JULIO to a New York stage near you. The play’s been workshopped, the theatre’s been booked, the cast has been hired, and all that’s missing is the funding.
What is David Davila's ADAN Y JULIO?
David Davila’s ADAN Y JULIO is the greatest love story to ever cross the border. The play is set against the dangerous world of the drug route wars that have been killing thousands of innocent people along the border of the U.S. and Mexico.
ADAN Y JULIO tells the tale of Adan, a teenage assassin who is out to avenge his family’s death by killing the head of Cartel Norte, the drug cartel that runs the routes of Northern Mexico. But when Adan meets Julio, the privileged and misunderstood son of the drug lord, his world is turned upside down by love. Can Adan and Julio escape the war-torn world of the Texas/Mexico border or is death their only escape?
ADAN Y JULIO is the first in a series of plays about life along the Texas/Mexico border by South Texas playwright, David Davila. It deals with very topical issues like equality for LGBT people, and immigration – it’s a play that needs to be seen now more than ever.
What is Lone Star Theatre Co?
Lone Star Theatre Co is a brand new theater company dedicated to bringing new work by Texas playwrights and composers to NYC. Our motto is: Texas pages, New York stages.
In Lone Star's first season we produced two concerts by Texas composers, David Davila's 52 SONGS: ABRIDGED! and a concert of original music by Dr. Michael Austin.
We produced a staged reading of Houston native, Hayley Hoffmeister's play THE SKYE OF JULY, and we premiered six new one-act plays by strong, female, Texas playwrights.
... and we produced an all-star tribute concert to the late Tex-Mex singer, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, called BROADWAY SINGS SELENA.
In short, we want to continue featuring Texas artists in NYC.
Why do we need help?
We need your help to bring this epic love story to life and get our theatre company rolling! We’re planning an Equity showcase (16 performances) of ADAN Y JULIO so that the play can be seen by New York audiences and we can hire awesomely talented actors – but showcases are expensive.
- Space: We need nine thousand dollars alone to rent the The New Theater on 45th Street, and five thousand for rehearsal space.
- Talent: Talented actors, many of whom are Broadway and TV stars don't come cheap.
- Design: Great shows come with great design. While we may have to be budget-conscious along the way, costumes, sets, posters & advertisements aren't free.
- Admin: Just making sure that we have scripts for the entire cast can cost up to $150. There are so many little expenses that come with producing a show in NYC, and they add up really quickly. We can’t do it alone.
It's a play about Gay Latinos! How many of those are even out there?
By donating to our production you can help Lone Star Theatre Co get it's first production off the ground in NYC. We're committed to bringing new work by Texas writers and composers to New York audiences. We've got a full season of awesome readings, concerts, productions, and events planned; and funding ADAN Y JULIO will help it all happen!
Plus, you'll help us tell Adan and Julio’s beautiful story and get really cool prizes in the process. Check out the rewards to your right. You could get digital downloads of mp3s, sheet music, photos, or even come to real life pizza parties and red carpet events. There’s something for everyone on there and no amount is too little for us. EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!

What if we don't reach our goal?
The way Kickstarter works is that if we don’t get enough money pledged to our project than we don’t get ANY of the money. We lose big time, and New York audiences lose by not getting the chance to see ADAN Y JULIO live their love on stage. If you pledge money to ADAN Y JULIO you’ll be helping Lone Star Theatre Co. realize it’s dream of producing Texas playwrights, and you’ll be helping playwright David Davila realize his dream of bringing ADAN Y JULIO to life on a New York stage.
Now check out a live performance of ADAN Y JULIO star, Jose Sepulveda, singing "The Love Theme for Adan Y Julio" at David Davila's 52 SONGS: MAKE IT HAPPEN! concert Feb 17, 2013. You could get the studio version of this track, sheet music, or more...
Here's a live performance of Broadway's Daniel Quadrino singing "Remember" at David Davila's 52 SONGS: College Edition! You could get the sheet music for this song too!
Here's a song by David Davila about two guys in love in Texas who can't get married... even though they want to. The sheet music for this is ALSO included in the sheet music package!

Risks and challenges
Theatrical productions are a very collaborative art form. Even with the funding from Kickstarter, we could still face some challenges along the way.
Fortunately, with Lone Star Theatre Co. we have many resources to help us on our way. We also know that as long as we keep spreading the word, our biggest supporters, like you, will be enthusiastically sharing our posts, videos, pictures, etc. with everyone they know in the world to make sure that we fill the house for every performance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
