During an expedition to the Moon, two astronauts find themselves in a familiar town back on Earth. They soon discover the town is the beginning of a strange and mysterious journey...
Lifeless Moon is a spiritual successor to our previous title Lifeless Planet (PC/Mac/Linux/XB1/PS4). Featuring support for VR (but playable without!), Lifeless Moon takes players on a fantastic journey through the eyes of Apollo-era astronauts. There will be light platforming and a deeper focus on puzzles than in Lifeless Planet. The core game-play experience is one of exploration and discovery, complementing the mysterious and psychological themes of the story.
In Lifeless Moon you will:
Explore an awesome scifi world in fully immersive 3D through VR support. If you prefer to play without VR, you can still experience the game in all it's cinematic wonder.
Uncover the mystery of the Moon city and... other destinations.
Traverse fantastic landscapes with third-person platforming.
Solve strange and interesting first-person puzzles with motion controller interaction in VR mode.
Hear professional voice-acting that adds life to other mysterious characters.
Collect unusual items as well as text logs that dive deeper into the story.
Design & Environments:
Lifeless Moon is about exploring fantastic environments as you seek to unravel the mystery of the story. We love games that always have something new and exciting over the horizon, so we build that experience into the games we make.
Our T-shirts are professionally screen printed on high quality 100% cotton shirts. These shirts will look good and last for a long time.
Our upcoming art book will feature art for both Lifeless Planet and Lifeless Moon. This book will be something truly special. See the video below for the reveal:
The book will be 9x12, hardcover, with a unique dust jacket as seen in the video. We're still working on content and design, but we expect around 50-60 pages, perhaps more. I hope you're excited about this piece as much as we are! Remember, you can adjust your pledge to claim this reward at any time.
We're super-excited to share more about this awesome reward in the coming days. The art book will feature exclusive images by the creators of Lifeless Planet and Lifeless Moon, as well as amazing fan art images like this piece:
We expect to have a playable beta this year (2017) with full release next year. We're a very small studio with a lot on our plate, so this may change. We really believe in this story and we want to get it right.
Stay tuned for more great announcements about the soundtrack, a retail box, platforms and more!
Stage 2 is a small team of enthusiastic artists and developers based in the Pacific Northwest. We love creating innovative media that inspires, motivates, and excites audiences of all ages about science. Our development services are used by the US Department of Education and educational clients around the country. We carry this passion for science education into video games like Lifeless Planet and Lifeless Moon, integrating science content in the context of fun entertainment experiences.
David Board | Leads the interactive division of Stage 2. Building on a college degree in graphic design and business administration, David learned the art and science of 3D modelling, animation and game development. Prior to app and game design, David developed websites for numerous nonprofit clients including the National Center for Science Education. David has served on the boards of Alaska Family Services, the Alaska Museum of Natural History and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska. David enjoys collecting fossils, riding his mountain bike, and playing indie games. He is also an avid astrophotographer, losing many nights to photographing galaxies and nebulae.
Logan Schoonmaker | Logan has a background in television and film production. With his double-major in Chemistry and Media for his Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University, Logan is personally drawn to projects that combine science and media communications (did I mention the dude double-majored in Chemistry and Media?!). Logan is a talented artist and designer who holds experience with such networks as MTV, Logo TV, and Syfy.
Jazon Burnell | Jazon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, where he has also taught Unity game development. Jazon is a gifted computer programmer, successfully developing two games for the iOS platform, the first of which was published by Electronic Arts. His knack for writing clean, concise code and refactoring old code was extremely beneficial in his role as lead programmer for the Xbox One, Mac and Linux versions of Lifeless Planet.
Susan Board | Susan had nearly fifteen years of experience in banking before she co-founded Stage 2 Studios. Her extensive knowledge of finance and operations management has been a tremendous benefit to both Stage 2 through the years. Susan studied Business Administration at East Texas Baptist University. She loves cooking, gardening and dogs (the puppier the better!).
John Conn | John has over a decade of experience in video production for TV, long form and short form documentary, and promotional DVD. He brings a unique creative perspective to our projects, and he is an accomplished editor and visual effects designer. John holds a B.A. in History from the University of Alaska and a B.S. in Theology from Corban University -- education that taught John to look for the human stories behind the projects he's involved with. Lately John's been filming big cats for the world-renowned Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado. His last project for the sanctuary won a 2017 Emmy Award!
Serenity Forge - Stage 2 frequently collaborates with this award-winning team of developers for development support and publishing. They ported Lifeless Planet to PS4 and are working on other very exciting developments in the Lifeless Planet world. Watch the founder's TEDx talk and you'll see why Serenity Forge's philosophy is totally in sync with Stage 2.
Developing a game like Lifeless Moon requires a monumental amount of effort. The cool thing is, when lots of individual people like you chip in a even little bit, amazing things are possible.
There are multiple core efforts we need to cover, including:
Art and Design
3D Modelling and Animation
Testing and Deployment
In addition, there are other items including basic overhead, marketing and the costs of the rewards themselves. The good news is, we have a profitable studio that allows us some flexibility to absorb day-to day costs, and we have a proven track record with Lifeless Planet.
But without your support, the extra costs of projects like this can be impossible to cover. So, we're coming to Kickstarter for the boost of funding and the support, energy and motivation that only comes from our awesome fans... like you!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk will be release date. We are able to pay the bills with client work, but this sometimes means we have to spread our attention between projects. But we've done this before and it worked... Why are we asking for $17,000? In part, because that's what was pledged here for Lifeless Planet several years ago. We delivered before with that budget, and we are confident we can do it again.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
