I've been writing Old Haunts, the third installment of the How To Be Dead series. And growing a poor quality beard.
The beard? Can anyone truly say that a beard is ever finished?
I mean the book. Idiot.
Oh right. Pretty much. So after the amazing support I received from the Kickstarter community for How To Be Dead and Paper Cuts, the first two novellas in the series, I've returned so that people can finish their collection of merchandise and books.
So, what's the series about again?
The undead are administrative errors and it’s up to Death and his office staff to protect humanity by fighting ghosts, zombies, vampires and medium-sized apocalypses.
After a nice cup of tea.
Yeah, yeah. I thought so. Can I have a little more information on this new story?
This is the last part of the UberSystems International story arc, but not the last How To Be Dead story.
Death is still reeling from the revelations in Paper Cuts, Dave is trying to solve the mystery of the strange forces that continue to engulf London and Anne is struggling to keep the team together.
People want to know more about Anne, so you'll learn her backstory and how she came to work with Death. Melanie continues to deal with more than any person should in a relationship. And Gary? Gary gets really confused about Elvis and zombies.
In keeping with the pattern of the stories, the scope of the narrative increases again. Basically, London gets trashed.
Death? Anne? Gary? Who are these people? Do I need to read the first two stories to understand what's going on?
I'd say so. And you can do it all for free. You can get hold of How To Be Dead and Paper Cuts from the interweb. You can also check out the great reviews:
And it's available for all major eReader devices. If you download How To Be Dead, you'll find details inside on how to get Paper Cuts for absolutely no pennies.
Yeah. I'm interested. What rewards have you got?
In return for your generous pledge, I've once again put together what I hope are some fun and unique rewards exclusive to this fundraising campaign. Once the project is over, there won't be any more. None. Nothing.
We've got the now traditional badges. You'll receive one of each. Here are the mock ups:
And we've got tee shirts. They come in regular style (S-XXL): And they come in a fitted style (XS-XXL):
And there'll be limited edition paperback versions of the story available. Again, these won't be available anywhere else. Do you want to have a look at the rough mock up?
Can I get all 3 stories in one convenient book?
Oh yes indeed! I shall be putting together Kickstarter exclusive, limited edition, signed hardback copies of the How To Be Dead anthology. These will only be available through this campaign and nowhere else. Get them while you can.
The front cover will be the original How To Be Dead novella cover as the novellas and eBooks have never really done justice to the quite brilliant artwork and I want to see it big and shiny and awesome.
Thanks for all your support so far. With your help, we can finish this stage of Dave's journey!
It's a really bad beard, by the way.
Please leave me alone.
I've now got samples of the paperback and the tee shirt!
Risks and challenges
I've been round the Kickstarter block a couple of times now and I know what does and doesn't work in a campaign of this size. I have the suppliers already lined up. I have used them on the previous campaigns, so you can be sure that that the rewards will be of the highest quality.
The brilliant design and editing team from How To Be Dead and Paper Cuts are all back onboard and we're all ready to go.
With this in mind, I hope that I have limited the risks and it would have to be a major obstacle to affect the deliveries. Like being trapped under a heavy object for several months.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
