There is no greater adventure than a truly great city. The wealth of nations – in knowledge, culture, and coin – is gathered together, compressed into a few square miles, and then left to simmer for centuries. The alchemy that ensues creates an environment rife with danger and opportunity.
“Fantastic Tales of Two Cities” is a 24-page zine that seeks to illuminate those opportunities and put them into the hands of game masters. Formatted in the classic flipbook format, the zine details TWO different gaming worlds... the modern superhero metropolis of Los Diablos, and the fantasy city of Palaethos.
Within the zine’s 24 black and white 8.5 x 5.5 pages, you’ll find:
- Maps of each city’s streets,
- Dossiers on some of the colorful and nefarious personalities that enrich the city’s culture, many with character sketches by digital artist Denise Lhamon!
- Floorplans detailing the most intriguing and influential structures.
- Backgrounds on the organizations and traditions of each city
- Fiction/interviews with the denizens of the city.
- The treasures and powers of each city will be revealed to you!

Who Are We?
First... the Daves:
David ‘Doc Blue’ Wendt is a seventh generation hyper-talent from an extinct possibility-verse 3.14 minutes ahead and 2.71 microns to the left of the reality in which this Zine is being produced. By day, he is a two-fisted statistician and, by night, he crafts tales and travelogues from the many possibilities he has visited.
This has resulted in the publication of his writing in several gaming tomes including "Castebook Zenith" and "Book of Three Circles" for White Wolf's Exalted game, as well as contributions to White Wolf's "Warcraft: The Roleplaying, Game Manual of Monsters". He's also created for Onyx Path Publishing in to their "Relics and Rituals" tome for the Scarred Lands game world.
His legacy as a game master includes campaigns in such RPG systems as Champions, every iteration of Marvel superheroic role-playing, GURPS, Smallville and other Cortex-based supers games, With Great Power, and games using FATE and PrimeTime Adventures.
Because they remind him of home, he has a particular passion for tales of superheroic grandeur. He has run multiple table top simulations in the superheroic milieu over the past thirty years and is ecstatic to share his latest world with you through this Kickstarter.
Dave Robison has been a storyteller all his life, starting as a child with a fierce passion for the theater and writing Curious George fan fiction. He played his first game of D&D in 1979 (first edition, baby!) and RPGs have have been a constant thread in the tapestry of his life.
In 2012, he launched The ARCHIVOS Podcast Network (originally The Roundtable Podcast) interviewing iconic authors and then inviting new writers to brainstorm story ideas with them. At the same time, he entered the realm of audio fiction as a voice actor, narrating stories for EscapePod, PseudoPod, PodCastle, Cast of Wonders, Tales to Terrify, The Drabblecast, and more.
In 2018, Dave launched ARCHIVOS, a story development and presentation platform that allows storytellers to SEE their stories the way they THINK about them... as a dynamic network of interconnected ideas.
His history and experience with storytelling and role-playing games gives him a unique voice in the world of game design... a voice he looks forward to sharing in the "Fantastic Tales of Two Cities" zine!
And no Zine would be complete without a fabulous artist, and that's...
Denise Lhamon, under the guise of LaymonsTerms works as a secretary by day, and draws when she has a spare moment or three. She has a degree in animation and a certificate in sass. You can find her on Instagram @LaymonsTerms when she isn’t trying to coax her cat into his carrier.
[Editor's note: Denise is far too modest... check these samples of her work!!]

Risks and challenges
Every project has risks but we've done everything we can to minimize the hazards for this one.
The first issue of the "Fantastic Tales of Two Cities" zine will ship in May. If we hit our stretch goals, subsequent issues will be released in July and September (earlier if we can).
==> What if you go over budget?
Not likely... we have solid quotes for the production and shipping of ALL the zines and have budgeted for those costs. We've included the price of art and Kickstarter's fees in the budget as well. Everything else is on the Daves.
==> Well, that's a lot of work for the Daves... what if they don't get it done?
All of the content (for all three zines) has been outlined and much of it is completed. The production schedule has been set to accommodate a less-then-frantic production pace. Plus, the Daves have done this stuff for literally decades... it's not their first barbeque when it comes to creating game/story content.
==> Sure... but what about the art? That might take more time than expected.
Again, we have a very reasonable production cycle and Denise is already working on pieces for the first issue of the zine. She is a consummate professional and a very gifted artist... and she loves the project! And even if it DOES take longer than expected... it won't be more than a week or two and it'll be worth the wait.
==> Well... the Daves might get crushed by a meteor or abducted and forced to run games for a cruel overlord.
Well, we can't help the former, and in the case of the latter, we hope you'll mount a rescue expedition to liberate our story heroes from the clutches of the nefarious Baron von Gamesalot ;-)
