Switch Layout and Railway Station WIP

Here we have a layout for the actual switch - still WIP as the rails are correct, but you cannot move your train along both ways as it is - lacking a mechanism to actually move the heart of the switch, we will need to cut out some of the rails.

And here we have the first glimpse of the Railway Station Astrid decided to make. Its not actually from the West but rather Pennsylvania - though we do not know the exact location, just that Astrid liked the picture. Here the original link:

And the current WIP:

There is still a lot of work to do - not least of all the problem to make that printable on a low cost printer in 1:285 to 1:56 (and, of course, roof and internal walls). The good news is that it will probably come in segments, so you can print it from 2 to any length you want.
More images coming tomorrow. I will also put out some Images for our "Fachwerk A", the Medieval townhouse that shows up on some photos. Both will be available as Addons for ~10€. The Minenhund car from 1556 will be free with the campaign if it succeeds.

Yep, we already learned that the hard way :-)

We learned that realistic walls already work quite well at 1:100 with PLA, but the windows and doors become too thin, so we have to rework this a bit to keep these in relation to the walls. Scaling it to 1:56 is usually not a problem, except for printbed size and detail, which can both be a beast :-)
The actual previews have all this still ahead, so the station will not go out (or online, if this campaign falters) before mid-July. We will certainly provide at least two versions, one for 6mm and one for scalable printout in 1:100.

At 6mm/1:285 the building will come in one single file, as hollow shell (or massive). If you look at Shapeways for "DasTri" you will already find the Fachwerk A for 6mm-printout (and the "balkenwerk", the framework).
Regarding different scales - from the printouts we got from the rails we decided that when we release them directly we will probably provide different version even for 1:56 and 1:35, as the volume you need at 1:56 (eg. for the lower railfoot) already looks clunky at 1:35.

With buildings you probably need a different file for each scale, scaling up/down a single model tends to mean walls are too thick or thin, and the detail is wrong, it's more work but gets better repeat buyers
