Who Are We?
We are Greg & Simon and we are starting Devon's first Single Malt Whisky Distillery.
Several years ago a group of whisky enthusiasts, including Greg on the left, visited Islay to make whisky. On their return, they said, 'why has no one ever made whisky in Devon?'
Here in Devon, we have the climate and soil to grow great quality barley. We have the granite geology of Dartmoor National Park that filters wonderful Dartmoor spring water. We also have the air quality and sea breezes to provide great storage during maturation.
With great local producers such as Tuckers Maltings, one of the oldest established traditional barley malting houses in the country, and with more cask beer brewers than any other county in England, all the components are here to make very fine single malt whisky. So Greg Millar & Simon Crow came together to make this dream a reality.
We found our still in Cognac and brought it to Devon in 2014. We then found our wonderful distillery building, Bovey Tracey Town Hall, the perfect building to be home to our project, and to give a much needed new lease of life to a great Victorian building. We brought Mr Frank McHardy from Campbeltown to Dartmoor to assess our project. We were delighted when Frank assessed our plans and consented to be our Master Distiller. So now, we enter 2016 with all the components in place to start producing Dartmoor Single Malt Whisky.
Today, we look to whisky enthusiasts around the world to help us raise the funds to purchase the beer wash for our first distillations. With this project, pledgers can proudly say they've helped get one of England's very few whisky distilleries off of the ground.
- Anyone who pledges to the Kickstarter campaign will be given first access to the pre-order sign up list for the first batch of Dartmoor Whisky.

We have chosen a traditional ‘Alembic' still from Cognac. Our pot still is 1400 litres to receive a 1200 litre charge. It has been hand beaten using 11-12mm thick copper.
We sourced our still from Cognac Master Distiller Miguel D’Anjou (on the right pictured below), who is the third generation distilling fine Cognac from his farm near Pons, in the Cognac region of France.
Our Green Supply Chain
We have a very local and green supply chain in place. The barley is being grown, malted and turned into beer wash, all within a ten mile radius of the Distillery building.

The Distillery Building
Built in 1866, Bovey Tracey Town Hall is a Grade ll listed building set on an island in the heart of Bovey Tracey, the gateway to Dartmoor. Over the last 150 years, the building has been home to our Town Council, a fire station, a cinema, and civic hall. With plans to relocate to a new purpose built civic centre, the Town Hall has become increasingly redundant and in need of a new lease of life.
Dartmoor Whisky Distillery have taken on the custodianship of this historic building and given it a new purpose, whilst restoring and maintaining its heritage.
In the old police station you will soon find our visitor's arrival centre and souvenir shop, whilst in the main hall you will see our still operating, our visitors centre attraction and a bar/bistro/café.
We have a visual design of our beautiful bottle, a strong brand and much interest from buyers and whisky lovers from around the world.
Our visual identity was inspired by our famous wild Dartmoor Ponies.
This Dartmoor Whisky Hip Flask is made from strong and sturdy Stainless Steel with a screw tight lid. Fill with your favourite tipple for a warming sip whilst out in the countryside.
This Dartmoor Distillery T-Shirt is made from 100% cotton and is a great way of showing off that you helped launch one of England's very few whisky distilleries.
This Dartmoor Whisky Glass is a nosing glass for whisky. Its tulip shape really brings out the flavour and scent from the whisky.
This 'Front Row' Dartmoor Distillery Rugby Shirt is made from thick premium cotton and gives you bragging rights that you helped get Dartmoor Whisky Distillery off of the ground.
Thank you all for reading about our project. Please share this project with your friends, family, and co-workers and help get Dartmoor Whisky Distillery off the ground. There are social media links near the top of the project page.

Risks and challenges
We have already purchased our premises and our distillation equipment, and we are in the process of installing our still, so that we will be producing spirit by autumn. This has been fully funded by us, the founders, with no borrowing what so ever. We hope this demonstrates our commitment to the project.
We are guided by our master distiller, Mr Frank McHardy. Research him to see what tremendous expertise and credibility he brings to our distillery.
Both Greg Millar, and Simon Crow have proven track record in starting and running their previous and current businesses. Andrew Clough, our third founder is a professional accountant.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
