A haunting tale of a warrior unicorn tormented by the death of her love. A world of dangerous magic. An ancient war with humanity.
If you love fantasy novels such as The Last Unicorn, then you'll love the Lineage series!
This project is for the creation, publishing, and marketing of the first two books in the same fantasy series...with many more books to follow.
Lineage of Visions
NEW version: A tale of a warrior unicorn, haunted by the death of her love during the war with humans over the right for magical creatures to exist. She discovers a powerful magic with the potential to reverse fate and secures the assistance of an old woman who has always believed in a world beyond human understanding. The woman hopes that the unicorn will be the one to bring humanity back into a world of mysticism and wonder. But the unicorn has other plans.
Follow the path a young half-elf as he pursues the freedom for his people he has always craved.
Soon to be titled.
What is this project?
I already have the experience with self-publishing from previously writing and self-publishing the first book in this series. However, I've decided to completely redo that book to make the story better fit the vision I now have for the series overall. I prefer self-publishing in order to ensure creative control over my project (I tend to be a bit picky :p).
The first book needs to be tweaked, but the overall framework is already in place. At this point it is only modifying the characters and aspects of the novel I want to change and republishing it with a new and improved design. I will also need to have the cover art redone for the book. To do this, I plan to hire a local artist to collaborate with on a beautiful new cover for the first book.
The second book needs to be titled and written. I have many notes on what I want for the story, but I need to actually sit down and write it all out. Then I will need to go through and edit (every author's worst nightmare :p). After all that is done, I plan to have the same artist from the first book to do the cover art for the second. I'm also going to hire this artist for individual character artwork to use for rewards.
While I do plan on this being a multiple book series, this project is only for the first and second books in the series.
The funds I'm asking for will go towards printing costs, review copies, professional editing, hiring an artist, marketing, website launch, and creating rewards for backers. The website I plan to create is specific for this series and I will include a list of all backers.
I wrote the first book in about three months while working part time. Now I'm working and going to school, so I'm estimating about six months to redo the first book and a year for the second book. This may not be the case and I certainly do hope to have everything completed sooner. Additional backing beyond my goal will go towards completing the project ahead of schedule, creating additional rewards for backers, and increasing advertising.
In addition to copies of the finished books, I've decided to offer some really unique rewards that will only be available to backers!
A note on the "Everything above..." comment: If there is a limited quantity available of a particular reward tier, the "everything above" in following tiers does not include the limited item. For example, some tiers include previously published copies of Visions. So if you select a reward tier that does not specifically state this item is included, then you won't be receiving it with your other rewards. Everything else that doesn't have a limited number available is fair game :)
All backers will be added to an e-mail newsletter list to have access to tons of extras including updates on the series and other projects, pre-release information, freebies, giveaways, contests, special pricing, and more. This newsletter is an exclusive to Kickstarter backers and will not be available to the general public.
Hardcover editions are also a Kickstarter exclusive! These hardcover books will feature artwork that is unique from the softcover options and will not be available for general sale.
The previously published version of Lineage of Visions with the old artwork is another exclusive option. Limited copies of this book are still available for purchase through Amazon, but it is in the process of being removed for sale (and Amazon doesn't have signed copies ;D).
A 24x36 Lineage poster designed specifically for this campaign that will never be released for general sale.
ARCs (advance copies for review) will be given away to backers. Only a few of these will be needed prior to publishing. I'm going to sign each copy and leave notes for the backer on what (if anything) I'm changing so they can compare it to the final finished product.
During the recreation of Visions I'm going through an old published copy of the original and marking it up with all the changes I want to make. The pages are covered in notes. Only one of these copies exist and one lucky backer will receive it.
The final tier has the most incredible rewards! Almost everything listed above is available in this tier. In addition to all of that awesomeness, one lucky backer will have a personal acknowledgement written to thank them in both books. They will be featured as a character in the third book. In addition to all of that though, they also choose who from the first two books will be featured as the main character of the third book! Not only will this mean that their favorite character will be front and center during the whole story, it could very well change the entire direction of the series!
$6,000 - I will complete Lineage of Visions by August instead of December...no matter how much sleep I have to give up to make it happen! This also means that the second book will be available early as well. In addition, each backer will have the opportunity to have a Lineage inspired short story, poem, or piece of art featured on the series' website for all fans to enjoy. (I'm totally cool with fanfic, so have at it.)
$9,000 - I will complete the second book by February 2014 instead of the new August deadline...no matter how much coffee I have to consume! In addition, each book order will include a bookmark with Lineage artwork.
$12,000 - Every single backer will receive a Lineage postcard with a handwritten "thank you" message from me! Specialty t-shirts will also be created that will be available for purchase only for backers.
$15,000 - Specialty artwork featuring scenes from the book will be commissioned and available for sale! Backers will be able to order signed copies of the art, something the general public won't be able to do :) Each backer at the $10 tier and above will receive a surprise small gift.
$18,000 - Other specialty wearable items (hoodies, ect.) will be made available for purchase to backers! Each book will feature a poetry section with some of my Lineage inspired poetry. Each book will also include a surprise design art element.
For every $1,000 reached beyond the last stretch goal, I will include one more extra either at the end of each book or with each book order such as short stories, additional poetry, author's notes, additional artwork, ect.
The awesome song in the video is "Got You Surrounded" by Republic of Lights.
Also, if this project succeeds, a portion of the profit will be used to fund other Kickstarter projects! Get more information here: http://kickingitforward.org

I have already written the first book. I am rewriting it, but I'm doing this using the framework from the original to spice it up and make the necessary changes to truly enhance it. I don't anticipate this being a very long process. Since it only took me three months to write the book in the first place, I know the six months I'm giving myself is more than enough time. This six month deadline for the first book allows enough time to ensure the project is completed by the deadline to the highest quality possible, even if there are unexpected delays.
I do still have to write the second book. I have been collecting notes for months on where I want the novel to go, but I do have to sit down and write it. I'm confident I shouldn't experience too much difficulty as this wasn't much of a problem during the writing of the first book. However, I have made sure to allow myself plenty of time just in case.
One element outside of my control is the artist. However I should know early on if there will be any problems and can make corrections to prevent any delays. I have also commissioned the artist who originally did the artwork for the first book to do some of the art for this project and she has proven that she's reliable.
This is a project I will be doing regardless of funding, so I know I will find a way to make it work no matter what.
If any issues do arise, backers will be notified right away with what's going on and how I plan to fix it :)
