Road Redemption Blog - The Road Redemption Health System

We've posted a new blog entry explaining how the Road Redemption health system works and why we made the design decisions we did. 

The system is a departure from what you may be used to in Road Rash, but we think it's an upgrade.

      We're still in the gameplay honing phase - adding in new gameplay elements and mission types and seeing what works and what doesn't.

      Thus, our artists are mainly focused on creating animations and gameplay-oriented props (weapons, etc). So at the moment, we're only working with one character model mesh. Adding new meshes and skins to our skeletons is something we'll do near the end of development.

      When we get near that phase, we'll be sending out all the requests to backers whose name or likeness will appear in the game.

      Everything I see from you guys makes me more and more excited for this.

      Any updates on when you expect to start asking for images etc for those who are getting their likeness into the game?
      And or what sort of images you need from us?

      I didn't mention it in the post, but all of the graphics you see in those images are temporary. I made them myself, and I'm a programmer, not an artist.

      Our artists are currently working on animations and 3d assets. GUI (graphical user interface) stuff will probably be the last thing they get to, due to the fact that we might completely change the health system before the game ships. Nothing's sacred in game design.

      So when the final GUI is done, we'll try to make the black bar into something more self-explanatory. I'm not sure exactly what, at the moment. If you have any ideas, I'd be happy to hear your suggestions.

      I agree with the points you guys made about the existing Road Rash health system, but I'm not sure an arbitrary black line on a health meter is an obvious indicator of anything--it feels more like an afterthought than an intuitive, purposefully placed indicator.

      excellent! I really dig the blog post about the health system. I hope the motorcycles / choppers themselves will show some damage or possibly cause em to leak gas or something. It would be sweet if I biker with a lead pipe could use it to hit the ground to create a spark which ignite a flame with the leaking gas from the bike ahead, then you got this trail of fire behind the biker with leaking gas and he has to pray that he doesn't crash or slow down lol otherwise the fire will catch up with the leaking gas and BOOOOOOOOOOOM BABY!
