Our team spent 18 months sourcing one of the best lightweight jacket materials around. Our NESSH™ 10D Ripstop Nylon is super-light, with a tight weave that offers excellent wind resistance and down proofing. Additionally, we use the same fabric on both the outer and inner shells. Many well-known brands skimp on quality by using a lower quality fabric on the jacket’s inner shell…we don’t.
Down or Synthetic - which to choose? We knew that one insulation just wouldn't cover all the bases. Down is super warm and packable, but doesn't perform well when wet. Synthetic has excellent wet-weather performance, but isn't as packable or lightweight as Down. So instead we decided to do something radical, by offering the exact same jacket, with two different insulation options. 850 Fill Power Goose Down - OR - 3M FL700 Synthetic insulation.
Down clothing ranges in Fill Power (FP) from 550FP up to 900FP. Higher Fill Power Down traps more insulating air pockets than lower quality down (e.g. 550FP). Very few brands choose to use Down with very high Fill Power ratings, due to its considerable cost. The NESSH Jacket uses 850 Fill Power Down to provide industry-leading insulation.
All Down used in Dark Peak jackets has been certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), ensuring that Down comes from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm. We pride ourselves on reinforcing this outlook.
For those who are allergic to, or prefer to avoid, Down, we also offer the same jacket filled instead with premium 3M Featherless (FL700) Synthetic Insulation - considered the best synthetic, Down-like insulation on the market.
The NESSH jacket features a form-fitting design with innovative Verti-Stretch™ vertical side baffles. These baffles expand or contract to better fit your physique and give you more flexibility when layering under the jacket.
It's got plenty of pockets and features wrist gaiters/mitts that prevent drafts and help keep your hands warm (use them or don’t, they tuck away when not in use). It also has a longer length than other brands, with an extended lower back (drop-back), giving more protection than other jackets in its class.
The versatile 2-way YKK zipper allows you to unzip the jacket from the top or bottom. Perfect for wearing over bulky items (like a climbing harness), the NESSH jacket can unzip slightly when you’re sitting down, so it will never bunch up on you.
And of course, it folds into it's own pocket for easy storage!
Did you know that when buying a jacket from a well-known brand, you pay 6-8 times what it actually costs to manufacture? Why? These brands have bloated marketing budgets, distributors and retailers who all take their piece.
By cutting out traditional retail middlemen and only selling directly to you, we can give you a world class jacket, at wholesale pricing and use some of our profits to give a jacket to someone who’s homeless.
We've use a combination of 5 fabric colors to create our range. Each jacket color (excluding Black) has a different color inner shell, which compliments the outer shell color. Additionally some inner shell colors vary depending on the gender of the jacket. You'll find more detail on each below:
Don't want a hooded jacket? No problem - Every color option in the range is also available in a hoodless version. You'll be given the option to select color and whether your NESSH jacket is hooded or hoodless via a survey after the campaign has ended.
At Dark Peak, we’re passionate about great products, but we also believe it’s not enough for a business to simply strive for profit, benefiting only a handful of shareholders.
As a business, we have an opportunity to improve society, to give back and help bring issues to the forefront of people’s minds. Which is why we decided to adopt a One Sold, One Given model, by promising that for every jacket we sell, we’ll donate another jacket to a person affected by homelessness, in the country you live in. Help us help the vulnerable in your home country.
We’ve received some great question about how our One Sold, One Given promise works, here are some answers:
Q: Is the jacket you give the same as the NESSH jacket?
A: No. For many reasons the NESSH jacket is not suitable for the needs of someone without permanent shelter. Knowing this we’re working with charities and directly with homeless people to develop a different jacket, designed to be as warm and as hard wearing as possible. It’s cut longer in the body to stop drafts, and has a deep drawstring hood. We have selected a water resistant, hardwearing polyester shell combined with synthetic insulation fill that retains insulating properties when wet. One of these jackets will be donated for every NESSH jacket sold.
Q: Is the jacket you donate branded with a Dark Peak logo?
A: No. The jacket we give is unbranded. This reduces it’s intrinsic value and reduces the temptation for someone to sell it, instead of wear it.
Q: Will the jacket being given on my behalf, go to someone in my home country?
A: Yes! We are working with charities worldwide and wherever possible we will donate the jacket on your behalf, to a charity in your home country.
Q: If I return my jacket for a refund, will you still give a jacket away?
A: No. Unfortunately, we can only give a jacket for every jacket sold. If you return your jacket for a refund, we cannot then afford to also give a jacket away.
Q: How do you donate the jackets?
A: We work with charities in different countries to provide bulk donation of jackets to homeless shelters, who will then distribute them to people in need.
Q: Can I personally sign up to receive a donated jacket?
A: No. Unfortunately we are not able to donate to individuals at this time. After our campaign ends our website will have a link to charities we partner with.
One Warm Coat is a US national non-profit organization that works to provide a free, warm coat to any person in need. They support individuals, groups, companies and organizations across the U.S. by providing the tools and resources needed to hold a successful coat drive, collecting lightly used coats for donation to people in need. In 2017/18 season they helped arrange donation of over 600,000 coats to people in need across the U.S. and 7 other countries. You can find out more about their amazing work at www.onewarmcoat.org
We are excited to continue building relationships with charities around the world in your home country. If you are associated with a charity or shelter, who have need for the jackets we'll donate, please get in touch.
We spent 2 years making what we hope you'll agree is the best down jacket on the market. We tested every last material and refined every last feature, until it was ready for you.
We can’t thank you enough for checking out our project and helping us make the NESSH Jacket a reality.
We know not everyone will be able to support us with a pledge, so even if you can’t give a dollar or purchase a NESSH Jacket, if you’re a supporter of what we stand for, you can help us spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram and anywhere else you can think of!

Risks and challenges
We've been devloping and manufacturing sports equipment for the past 15 years. We've got our manufacturer, our colours are selected, tested and approved.
Of course there are always certain risks that can arise at any moment during a project like this which could delay production. That being said, we’re confident in our ability to produce this product in the timescale provided above and have taken all the necessary measures to do so. We just need your help to bring everything to fruition.
We’re completely prepared to bring the NESSH Jacket to your closets, and we have the manpower to make it happen, but if anything comes up along the way, you’ll be the first to know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
