      Dark Energy,
Okay, thanks, I'll wait impatiently! :)

      P.S. Nazareth? Seriously? :(

    3. David Di Troia on March 20, 2013

@Paul $69 pledge only comes with Battery, Pouch and AC Adaptor.

    4. Paul Christopher on March 20, 2013

I pledged for the $69 dollar reward tier. Will that also come with the black light and finger stylus that the lower tiers come with or will it just come with the reservoir, bag and ac adapter?

    5. Jason Longhurst on March 20, 2013

Dug into the updates and found the answer. Yay for 2 bags! Lets get this goal met!

    6. Jason Longhurst on March 20, 2013

For those who have backed a level that includes a waterproof bag, do we get two when the stretch goal is reached? One for our phone, one for the charger? That would be nice...

    7. Dark Energy 3-time creator on March 20, 2013

Can someone post a video of the DE charging? And closeups?

    9. David Nazarov on March 20, 2013

Personally I'm waiting for the more photos and videos about of the Reservoir, as well as information on the carrying pouch.

    10. David Di Troia on March 20, 2013

I'll ask again. I was wondering instead of a waterproof case can us international backers get a local AC Adaptor if you reach 150000? At least those of us who backed the early bird level?

Hi DE, Thank you so much for your honesty. You have enlightened the layman among us to the technical side of the battery and the for-thought behind the original design. Hearing this assesment I feel much better in backing your project. I appreciate your honesty and in return let me be honest as a backer.

First of all my comment was in no way a criticism about your product after all I wouldn't be a backer if I didn't believe in you. However that said its fair to say that people were critical about your initial communication with backers as well as your stretch goal rewards. My communiqué to you was to outline that as backers we wanted stretch goals that didn't include a rocket or a disneyland trip afterall most of your backers are international and could not use these rewards anyway. As I said waterproof plastic bags are a great idea but many backers were disappointed, as they had backed a reward tier that included one in the first place. The stretch goals, I was hoping for were a range of colours, styles perhaps a protective pouch etc. Failing this an added functionality to the battery itself would also be nice, such as increased performance or a free USB cable upon reaching a certain stretch goal. Now you have already told us increased performance is not an option but other stretch goals certainly are. At the time however we as backers had no idea that this was not possible. This why you guys were getting hammered with these performance requests. At any rate as a backer I'am very pleased that DE is now telling us more about the technical side of the battery. As I said good PR will improve this product for all. Please make no mistake, I'am enthusiastic about this product and I'am Proud to be a Backer : )

I'm glad that someone was able to post their experience verifying the" DE Reservoir " prototype charging times. These were great results! Keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to communicate and answer so many good questions while you do all the other work behind the scenes to get the product produced to your high standards.

      @shadow stalker
As we mentioned before, we have seriously considered it before and during the kickstarter project. By "considered", we mean that we have done extensive research on it, visited over 15 of the best manufacturers. From the beginning, we wanted to pack the most power we physically could into the Reservoir, we had no intention of holding back anything.
To be honest, jumping from 8000 to 10000 mAh is going to take some breakthrough technology, because currently it is scientifically impossible to make a 10000 mAh that fits the size of the Reservoir. The battery cell inside of the Reservoir is the highest density available. At this current point, to make the Reservoir 10000 mAh would mean that we would have to increase the size quite a bit.
As a result of our user testing, we learned that the current compact size of the Reservoir is the most convenient. We want to stay with our current size, so we cannot just change from 8000 to 10000.
We started with the best and most dense lithium polymer battery cell. This is why we are giving away other things to encourage more backers to jump on.
We want you to know that these words are spoken with complete honesty, we are building the best portable charger from the beginning, holding back nothing.

However, we will consider it as we begin our research and development for the next generation of products, this means that we are going to raise a lot more capital.

Day one of testing out the Reservoir prototype has exceeded my expectations.

Here is a log of how long it took to charge my iPhone 4s from 20% battery:

11:30 - Battery level: 20% - Plugged the Reservoir into my iPhone
      11:40 - Battery level: 29%
      11:53 - Battery level: 45%
      12:00 - Battery level: 53%
      12:10 - Battery level: 65%
      12:20 - Battery level: 76%
      12:30 - Battery level: 85%
      12:40 - Battery level: 92%
      12:50 - Battery level: 96%
      1:00 - Battery level: 99%
      1:05 - Battery level: 100%

I am super impressed that it took 1 hour 35 min to charge my phone. That is just as fast as when I charge it using the outlet. And the Reservoir still indicates that it has 4 of 5 bars left.

Good work dE! Coming to the end of day 1 happy.

Hi DE, We your backers appreciate that you are now taking the time to communicate more freely with us about the project. Most of us are early backers, you are of course right the waterproof bag is a good idea to provide protection for the DE Reservoir. However as backers, most of us would like battery related stretch goals like 10,000 mah increase in our DE Reservoir's battery capacity like this project has done:
We are backing your project as we like you have a passion for it. Good Public Relations will take your company far beyond this kickstarter. Please Consider.

      @Terry @Dr Martin
      We appreciate all your feedback.
Let us tell you a little bit more about the reasoning behind what we are doing.
Dark Energy lifestyle is one that breaks boundaries and encourages people to do things that they have never done before. As a result of this thinking, we decided to include the accessories that are currently associated with the rewards. For example, the waterproof bag is extremely useful under most circumstances, because water damage is one of the major reasons that people have to replace their phones. It can also cause the battery to malfunction. We want to help you keep your reservoir protected.
As we explained before. About the new pledge rewards, we have been getting suggestions from backers that we should put up some creative high-number pledges (like the ones on Video Game High School project) on our page, these would be tailored to specific interested parties. These rewards are not for everyone. We assure you that our top priority is making the Reservoir to be the highest quality portable charger.
We hope that this answers your questions. If you have any more questions, please feel free join in on our twitter chat from 12 - 1:30pm today here at

It allows us to accurately tell*

    36. Dark Energy 3-time creator on March 18, 2013

Hi Albert, this is a great question!
Yes, we have working final prototypes.
We have been using a testing method called rapid battery aging test, we did it in two different labs, one here in the US, one in China. It allows accurately us to tell how long the battery will hold full charge, how many times we can recharge it and still holds full capacity, etc.
We have also given our prototypes to electrical engineers over the course of the past year to verify our data we collected from our labs.

I understand the last q maybe patent pending or trade secret but any info you can provide.

    38. Dark Energy 3-time creator on March 18, 2013

      Dear Backers!
We want you to know that we do care about each and everyone of your pledge and suggestion!
@NHP To clarify what we meant by agile method: We bought and let several people use existing chargers to isolate strengths and weakness that needed to be fixed. In other words, we did hand out “bricks” with different sizes, materials and specs to users. Also drawing from our own experience using various chargers and inspecting each one we concluded there was a lot of room for improvement in both the engineering and design disciplines. We found that the bottom line of our feedback was people desired something very portable, very powerful, and very cool. A truly portable device meant it needed to be as slim as possible. It needed to be surprisingly powerful and stylish enough that you wanted to bring it with you to show off. We designed the Reservoir with the feedback we received. Nearly everyone we asked preferred the soft-touch material which the Reservoir now features. Our designer drew from some of the products shown for inspiration when coming up with the gentle stippling across the faces of the Reservoir. We went through over 10 iterations of design and we built portable charges with different capacities and sizes as well for our testing.
@Martin The mini black light is a key-chain-size LED black light. We apologize for missing your question about it in the past.
@Jason Thank you for your feedback! We will do better with commenting back! We do not mean that Commenting back is not a priority, because it is among one of our priorities. We meant that our HIGHEST priority is to make sure that the Reservoirs that we will send to you are built with the best-quality components and sent to you on time. We have been receiving tons of individual messages, and we respond to those as well.
@Bob We appreciate your comment. We don’t count on anyone pledging 10K, we are counting on the support of everyone. Frankly, those new pledges are a result of our backers’ feedback. As we mentioned before, our TOP priority is to make sure that the Reservoirs that we will send to you are built with the best-quality components and sent to you on time. The development of the product is where we spent the majority of our time. You will certainly receive the premium charger we promised. Besides the engineer we sent to china, we may be flying to China ourselves to ensure all the manufacturing is done right.
What spec would you like to know? We would be happy to share with you as much info as possible.

    39. Bob Ketcham on March 18, 2013

They don't need damage control, or to fear backers bailing out. They're banking on someone coughing up 10K for a Estes rocket building class! The proof is in the pudding. Any distributor of their product will not be impressed by a bounce if unrelated crap when the chargers aren't delivered, or delivered below spec. Even though those specs have not been made clear to us.

    40. Missing avatar

      NHP on March 18, 2013

I think part of the problem is they're treating the backers as buyers; a source of money. Most of us here are not. We're enthusiasts. We WANT to know how our money was spent. We want to know the process. We want to know about the challenges.

We do NOT care about marketing spiels. "Using agile design and engineering method, we collect data based on needs and wants of the users". Blah blah blah. What are they? What iterations did you go through? Did you try giving people different-sized bricks and letting you know which one they prefer? If so, WE WANT TO KNOW.

Kickstarter is NOT about people giving money and receiving products. That's called a shop. This is a community. Treat it like one.

I appreciate the effort, but if you think communicating well with your early backers is not a priority, then I'm afraid your team's efforts are misguided.

You seem to be brushing off your backers' suggestions rather than actually taking any of them into consideration. I'll stay the course for now, but if the situation doesn't change in the next week I'll definitely be backing out.

    43. Dark Energy 3-time creator on March 18, 2013

      Dear Backers!
We do hear you! Let us address your concerns here one by one in detail.
First of all, we are completely serious about the success of this project.
We understand that there is nothing more disappointing to a backer than not receiving the product on time, with the promised spec.
Our team may be small, but we can deliver what we promise. Our highest priority is to make sure that the Reservoirs that we will send to you are built with the best-quality components and sent to you on time. To accomplish this, we have spent the majority of our time working with our manufacturer. We have spent funding from our personal bank account to pay our manufacturer, so we could start manufacturing as soon as we met our goal. We have even just sent one of our team members to China just to work with our manufacturer side by side. Because of this priority, our small team have not made frequent commenting our top priority.
About the new pledge rewards, we have been getting suggestions from backers that we should put up some creative high-number pledges (like the ones on Video Game High School project) on our page, these would be tailored to specific interested parties. We were going to create these new pledge rewards two weeks ago, but we did not, because we believed that the highest priority were to get the product manufactured and be able to send them to you on time.
Because of this very reason, we pushed back the posting of these pledge rewards, until the same time as our posting of the new stretch goal of $150,000. However, the creation of new pledge rewards have absolutely no correlation with the stretch goal. They just happened to be on our posting schedule at the same time.
Regarding the future of Dark Energy. We have spent over a year researching portable chargers and the consumer electronics market, pivoting our strategy and creating the Dark Energy Reservoir brand, because our goal is to make Dark Energy not only a successful project on Kickstarter, but also a company that produces the most premium products. The meaning and effort we put into Dark Energy and the Reservoir go far beyond just making a quick buck, this is a creation of a new brand, and a new lifestyle.
We want you to know that there is so much going on behind the scene, including this one good news to all of us. We are currently negotiating with worldwide distributors and retailers. We will be signing contracts tomorrow. This means that we will be up scaling Dark Energy very soon.

    44. Dr Martin on March 18, 2013

Brad: The struggle many people are trying to cope with is finding the merits in the product. There is little-to-no solid information and zero feedback from the team at Dark Energy. I think everyone wants the project to succeed, the marketing claims sound great, but until people start getting answers then more and more people will continue to drop out. I'm a day 1 supporter, and I haven't pulled out yet because I have some minuscule level of faith that the project will return with some positive answers and scrap these stupid distractions (stylus, waterproof bag for a cell phone, steak dinner, etc...) which have nothing to do with batteries. If you have some insight the rest of us are missing, please share -- what's the point of saving $15 on something you will never see?

    45. Brad Haigh on March 18, 2013

With everyone backing out I was able to snag an early bird, saved me 15 bucks. From your pocket into mine.
ps. Don't forget that these are nerds who feel like rock stars right now. Back the project on the merit of the product, you don't use windows because Gates is a cool dude!

    46. Jason Longhurst on March 17, 2013

Wow- this project has actually LOST almost $500 in funding since the stretch goal was announced. Sadly, not a lot of damage control out of the @dE camp. I know you guys have put together a great product here but it is time to get out of the library and focus on the customer- you have everything to be great, so don't mess it up.

Sounded like a great project at first. Now all these gimmick packages and stretch goals. What a shame. Count me out on my pledge, you're just getting $1 from me now.

    49. Dr Martin on March 17, 2013

I'm glad i'm not the only one with grave concerns about this project. The technology surrounding batteries has always intrigued me and I am starting to get the feeling that Dark Energy is less about making a high quality product and more about making a quick buck on Kickstarter. Information on how the battery is differentiating itself is sorely lacking, and the focus seems to be totally gone from the batteries at all. This project wasn't about styluses and waterproof bags or experience packages, it is about a battery - I wish DE could clue in on that.

    50. Bec Tan on March 17, 2013

It's a little disturbing how they seem to have stopped doing much after hitting the goal.
Personally, I some money in to see where this would go, keep up with the updates and stuff, just in case i saw something that would intrigue me. I like to see projects that feature some sort of new innovative feature. In this case, there wasn't much, but it is true that it's a pretty good charger in an of itself; however, most project starters I've seen have a passion for their projects and actively update them so that backers are always in the know for any advances or hindrances the project goes through.
Most importantly, extra funding often goes to speeding up the project; here it looks like I'll be paying for their next round of drinks.

Until anything looks like it'll be handled in a way more of the backers(and maybe the project itself), well, I'm pulling out.
