Dr. Eugene Poulos is a genetics whiz on the corporate fast track. When he stumbles across a secret group with the key to the fountain of youth among other highly advanced technologies, Gene quickly finds himself alienated from family and friends, on the run from the police, wanted by the FBI, and worst of all hunted by a group of people who see and hear farther, think and move faster, never sleep, live forever, and who will stop at nothing to maintain the privileged secrecy of their existence.
Would you risk your life, to live forever?
GENETIKA: Gene is the debut graphic novel in a series of science fiction thriller stories that deal with cloning, immortality, and the ongoing struggle for power and technology.
I've written the script and the artwork is under way and looking fabulous. The funds raised here will go to cover the costs of the artists to complete the interior pages, lettering and colors, and to first run printing costs. Every dime goes to bringing a gorgeous, entertaining story to you on the printed page, but it doesn't stop there. The initial goal is just the minimum to fund a first run. Let's hit that goal and blow straight past it. Do that and I've got some fantastic stretch goals for you that I know you'll love.
I enjoy stories that are slick and entertaining, and introduce hip new technology in the context of our emotional and moral challenges. These are the kind of pulse-pounding, though-provoking stories I will bring you again and again through the GENETIKA graphic novel series and beyond.
Back debut graphic novel GENETIKA: Gene now, and be a part of launching this hip science fiction thriller series. Together let's bring lots more great stories into the world.

(Visual Excerpt) DREAM SEQUENCE: PREP SCHOOL
"Genetika: Gene" includes a series of dream sequences, in which main character Gene learns new technology, addresses unresolved internal conflict, and attempts to access data trapped inside his mind. The Prep School dream sequence occurs at a point in the story at which Gene is desperately trying to recreate the formula for regenerative immortality in order to save Mia, which he has seen before but can't recall enough to recreate it. He knows the formula is buried inside deep inside his own mind, and he enters the dream state to try and retrieve it. The scene takes Gene back to his private preparatory high school upbringing, and progresses seamlessly through freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years, as Gene dramatically changes his outward persona in order to bury his unresolved insecurities and reject who he naturally is.
The art for the 6-page sequence was created by uber-talented french comic artist, Bengal, known for his unique style of artwork which fuses western and eastern comic influences.
Risks and challenges
The challenge in completing a 100+ page graphic novel, as an independent publisher, is in securing the commitment of talented artists who can stick with the book through completion. Life happens, and when artists work on a project part-time there is always the threat that the artist's higher dollar commercial projects will take precedence and push the completion date on the independently produced graphic book.
To reduce this risk I've divided up the production of GENETIKA: Gene, the graphic novel, in such a way that the main interior pages, the color dream sequences, and the cover artwork can be completed by a combination of artists. Not only does this lend itself to the storyline which calls for a style change on certain sequences, but significantly reduces the burden (and dependency) of one artist doing all the work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
"Genetika: Gene, book i" is One Big Book. The screenplay is 111 pages, which will translate roughly into ~130 graphic pages in the graphic book format. I wrote it as one complete feature-length story, so we will present it to readers the way it was originally conceived. This format - the feature length graphic story - also happens to be my favorite comics format, which is certainly heavily influenced by my passion for feature length films.
I composed and produced the original music for the "Genetika: Gene" trailer. Since I envision and write my stories visually, as if they are already movies, I wanted to present the trailer for the graphic novel in a way that suggests the rich immersive cinematic type experience that i envisioned while writing it. Besides being extremely fun to do, it also helps adhere to kickstarter rules, which prohibit any content that is not creator owned (or which the creator does not have rights to.) Since I wrote the trailer music especially for this promo video myself, and all of the artwork is original from the graphic novel, this avoids any potential conflicts on the copyright front.
The bulk of Genetika's interior artwork is done by k l jones of rome, georgia. He uses a black and white with grayscale shading technique for his pages. The book also contains dream sequences each of which calls for a different style than the interior pages. These pages will be done in full color by various talented artists. For example the 6-page prep high school dream sequence has been completed by the french comic artist bengal, who is also doing the graphic novel cover. In all likelihood i will draw at least one of the dream sequences as well.
Some of the characters in "Genetika: Gene, book i" speak Esperanto to each other. Esperanto is a constructed language, created circa 1887 with the intention of being promoted as a universal language in the interest of crossing cultural, geographic, and political boundaries. The language was designed to be easy to learn, with less vocabulary and less grammatical complexity necessary to express any particular idea. Adoption of Esperanto failed miserably, but I have resurrected the language in the graphic novel series "Genetika" to underpin the theme of a secret society living and operating among us, and as a light reference to the intention of a one world order. Read more on Esperanto here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto
Genetika means genetics in Esperanto. The series deals with themes of genetics, biotechnology, cloning, immortality and the ongoing struggle for power and control of advanced technology.
