After a mind-blowing kickstarter success earlier this year and a difficult-yet-fruitful shoot this summer, a worst case scenario we never saw coming has all but buried ARV-3.
To get the best image possible, we rented Convergent Design's Odyssey 7Q media recorder from a local rental house. What we didn't know was that the rental house had not kept up with firmware updates on the device, and as a result, we encountered a bug that irreparably corrupted about a days' worth of footage.
We are devastated over this loss and are coming back to our amazing and supportive community once again. If this film is going to see the light of day, we all need to rally once more.
THE GOOD NEWS
The rental house has kindly offered to let us have the camera package, free of charge, to re-shoot the lost footage and get this film in the can.
The bad news is we are still out of pocket for a new monster prosthetic, production insurance, location fees, and other gear rental. Until we can raise enough funds to finish the film, we are completely dead in the water.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
ARV-3 is Timid Monster's upcoming sci-fi/thriller fan film based on Cameo Renae's bestseller. Shot in the historic Tennessee Brewery building on the banks of the Mississippi river, the film is set to premiere at Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention, Saturday, November 22nd.
ABOUT THE BEHIND THE SCENES MATERIALS
Along with the film, we've been producing an in-depth look at the filmmaking process, complete with lessons and tutorials from the cast and crew. The aim is to create a comprehensive educational package to accompany the film.
The Memphis-area filmmaking community has done so much to support Timid Monster and ARV-3. As a thank you, we want to invest back into the community by offering the educational package, FREE to all Memphis-area filmmakers.
And for actors, we've partnered with our good friend, Michael Allen, to provide free professional headshots to any Memphis-area actor who needs them.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP
Money isn't everything. If you can't contribute financially, there are many other ways you can be a part of this project:
- Share this campaign on Facebook, Twitter, etc...
- Email the link to friends, family, and fellow geeks.
- Like Timid Monster and Cameo Renae on Facebook
- Live in the Memphis area? Donate your time, talents, and equipment during production.
- Have mad post-production skills? We'll need help with effects, sound design... and, most everything else.
NOTES FOR REWARDS
* - You are responsible for any travel and lodging costs; they are not included in the reward. We are working with the author to provide an alternative reward for those unable to attend the premiere.
** - We offer our time and talents to help plan a 60 second promotional video, ideally for a book or similar product. Project is subject to our approval. We will not participate in anything containing hateful speech, overtly sexual themes, the glorification of violence, drug and alcohol abuse, or other sensitive topics.
Risks and challenges
Films are notoriously difficult to schedule and produce, as there are MANY moving parts and squirrely artist-types involved. Further data loss (please God, no more), scheduling conflicts, location issues, computer meltdowns, and tricky visual effects shots can all cause significant production delays. We pride ourselves on clear and up-to-date communication with backers, and will continue to keep everyone posted on how the film is progressing.
The good news is most of the film is shot and edited at this point. We have an energized cast and hard-working crew that are chomping at the bit to finish this project; all we need is a little more support from our amazing community. The greatest risk and challenge to this film getting finished is this fundraising campaign. We are 100% dependent on you all at this point.
