About

I've spent 28 years in sports media - as a sports writer, a TV host and a radio talk show host/play-by-play voice. I want to take all those talents and experiences and put them to use making my first documentary film.

Why is Minor League Baseball so popular? All across the country, no matter the region, popularity is at an all-time high. I want to know why.

I want to travel to minor league parks in every region of the country and find out what they have in common, as well as what unique traits each present.

Traditional parks, like long-time Dodgers affiliate Albuquerque, NM. Short-season teams such as Billings, Mt. Teams close to their Major League affiliates - such as Dayton (Cincinnati) and Gwinnett (Atlanta).

Teams that are "isolated," like those in my home state of West Virginia. And teams that have been around forever, like the Toledo MudHens and the Pawtucket Red Sox.

What brings the fans out to all these parks? Are they there to see competitive baseball? Is it a social event? How does ballpark food vary from place to place? How much money are Minor League franchises spending to upgrade facilities?

All this, and much more. It should prove to be a fascinating slice of Americana.

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk I have is getting press credentials/permission from the individual teams. However, 28 years of experience in the industry will help overcome those obstacles.

Traveling such a wide area can present issues, as well. Car maintenance, time constraints, etc.

There's also the possibility that even though the clubs themselves might give me access to the park, the individuals I'd need to talk with might not be cooperative. In 28 years I've been shot down by the famous and the ordinary. It happens in this business.
