The Bridgetown Comedy Festival is a stand up comedy festival that happens every year on the east side of Portland, OR. It’s been regarded as one of the most fun comedy festivals in the country, it’s featured a swath of talent so varied it’s hard to keep up with how funny they are, and every year I wonder why there’s never been a screenprinted poster for the damn thing. As a comic/amatuer graphic designer it’s been my goal for the last 3 years or so to get a poster made for the festival, and now it's actually happening.
As much as I would’ve loved to print this poster myself anyone who’s ever tried screenprinting will know that it is a materials intensive process with lots of eccentricities that involve an amazing attention to detail. Which is why for this project I’ve teamed up with the lovely dudes at Seizure Palace to print out this poster. They do amazing work, and have worked with an innumerable amount of talent I could only hope to hang out with some day.
At this point my main objectives is simply to get the poster out to as many people at a reasonable cost. At $500 the goal money is almost exclusively going toward covering the printing cost. A large swath of my twenties has been spent as a jobless comic and I know how discouraging it is to find a piece of art only to realize it's super expensive. I want as many people as possible to get this poster, and also not have it break the bank.
I would also mention that as a person who owns tons of posters already it’s also my goal to spread the word about how awesome a screenprinted poster can be. At it’s best they perfectly encapsulate the feeling of a band/event/person in an incredibly tangible, portable, tactual design. I want this poster to be the first of many for Bridgetown and I can only hope that in the coming years more people come forward and make beautiful designs representing one of the funnest comedy events in any stand up aficionados calendar. Thanks!
Risks and challenges
Right now this project is being operated just by me so when it comes time to ship things/deliver stuff/any other weird task, I’ll work as hard as I can to get things done in a timely manner, but will still just be one dude.
That’s really it. The only thing stopping this from happening is capital. The design is done, I’ve contacted Seizure Palace and they are ready to start receiving materials/files, and I’m ready to make this thing a reality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
