Your Contribution from 2012 + Video Game Achievements = Music Composition Online

Last Time, On Liederboard...

Do you remember backing a digital music composition tool?  Really, you did -- it was awesome!  You made it a successfully-backed project back in 2012, so now it's always available to backers from a Google Drive folder or to the public at the liederboard website.

Now, it's August, 2013, and an indirect -- but very exciting -- development has occurred...

Enter, the Lootsie!

The Lootsie service offers developers an achievement-based monetization system so that video games get a myriad of benefits.  Game devs don't have to sell out their screen space to banner ads anymore, nor will they ever need to invest toward an achievements system for their game.  Their players get real, free stuff just by playing video games.

What Does That Have To Do With Liederboard?

Lootsie hired me on as one of its first employees and Liederboard has been in the back of my mind since before you backed it.  Sure... knocking down all the bowling pins is an achievement today, but what about tomorrow?  Perhaps I can make real rewards available to musicians that write their first 4-measures of a song -- maybe $5 gift cards are how future artists are first enticed to create quality, highly-voted songs on Liederboard.

Most importantly: a genuinely positive monetization system finally exists for Liederboard to sustain itself without compromising artists or their works.  This lends well to my vision of a one-stop service where musicians can create, enjoy, and sell musical compositions to other musicians, listeners, or performers --  a system liberated from the notoriously exploitative publishing options available today.

Danny, That Sounds Excessively Ideal... but How Can I Help Anyway?

I can understand if you're chuckling at my dream.  It's possible, though, if Lootsie continues gaining the momentum we've already seen in a matter of hours.  The way you can help is so easy it might make you chuckle a bit longer.

Play video games on your mobile device.

Yes, I'm serious.  Here's a list of our partners' free games that you can play immediately!  You can even get free stuff from our system.  If you do, then Lootsie looks good -- and if Lootsie looks good, we can quickly expand to more platforms like Liederboard's!

Rock on, backers!

Thanking Our Backers: Liederboard in Action!

We know we're not fancy recording artists.  Nonetheless, these are the last hours of our project, so we wanted to say thank you in a special way!

The best part?  It's your support that enabled us to do this.

How You Enable Us -- And Any Musician! -- To Do This Right Now

Your generous support allows for the development of the 3 features in the Kickstarter.  Among them is pitches.  Because the world was so quick to respond to our idea, the 1-week success ensured that development could take place immediately.

That means that Danny -- and now any musician! -- could do the following.

1. Write music parts on http://liederboard.com.
2. Screenshot and email those parts to music-playing buddies.
3. Your music-playing buddies record themselves playing what you wrote.
4. Put the recordings together and congratulations!  You got a band together, online, with Liederboard!

You can see the written parts attached at the end of this update.  Note that some details were added afterward; for example, accidentals are still one of the things to look forward to in the future!

The End of This Kickstarter Is The Beginning of Liederboard

You may have noticed that a part of our rewards mention an "online component".   When that network is launched in the coming months, our backers will be the first ones invited to participate in it.

What exactly is this becoming?  You can think about it in different ways, depending on who you are.

Music fan always looking for good music? Liederboard is going to be the American Idol of the internet.  You'll be able to visit Liederboard and find what musicians and listeners think is the best music in the world at any given time since Liederboard would have launched.

Gamer? Liederboard is going to be the first online, collaborative music-creation game where you win by creating the best music in the world.  Prepare for "Achievements" that are globally and artistically significant.

Internet-savvy? Liederboard is going to be Reddit for music composers.  How cool would it be to have an empty score instead of text submissions?  Subreddits become genres and "the front page of the internet" becomes "the best music in the world".  Imagine how much karma Beethoven would have!

Thank you so very much.  We can't wait to take our next steps with each of you that shares the dream of a modern, convenient, and practical service for music composers.

Development Update: Pitches!

Pitches

Our supporters have spoken!  Liederboard now supports the range from G, below the staff, up through a high F above the staff.

The best part?  This is all at liederboard.com.  You can write a song in the key of C, right now!  Makes for a lovely evening, don't you think?

7 Days To Go!

This is your last chance to show that musician in your life something cool that they can use right now!  Thanks to everyone who has pledged, and thank you so much for helping to spread the word.  Without you, we could never have come this far.

Give pitches a try and keep the feedback coming.  I'll develop this as long for as long as you enable me to do so!
