Hey there friend, my name is Dann, and thanks for coming to check out my new game Tavern Masters!
I've been working hard play-testing and fine-tuning the mechanics on this card game for the past three years now. I've taken it around to game shops and conventions for fellow gamers to play, brought it to share with friends, sent it off for others to kick around, and the response has been overwhelming! Everyone loves Tavern Masters! One of the first things I usually hear is them asking where they can buy it! Well, now thanks to the magic of Kickstarter, they can pledge for their copy, and you can too!
So many gamers crave a game that adapts to their play style, that they can share with both beginner gamers and experienced card-slingers, and that can be played not only with friends but solo.
Now, after years of work and preparation, I am pleased to bring you the opportunity to own this fine game, crafted with love for all things fantasy, manufactured with the benchmark of quality and beautifully illustrated by the amazing Galen Ihlenfeldt.
Thanks, of course, to the DKG War Council, who helped me make this game as truly awesome as it is! Special Thanks to Heads vs. Wall for being awesome gamers and helping us to test this during the Beta phase! Special thanks to you as well for checking out this campaign! I know you'll love this game as much as we all do!
Tavern Masters is the exciting new tableau-building card game of tavern-running fun by Dann Kriss Games! Each player is a new tavern owner, setting up shop in a thirsty village full of thugs and soldiers, mages and nobles! There are multiple ways to play Tavern Masters:Competitive, Co-Operative, or Single Player
Competitive Play: Each tavern owner in the village of Redstaff is in a race to buy the village's coveted Royal Tavern license from the King's tax collector. The license fee is 20 gold, but the player who can bribe him the most wins!
Co-Operative Play: The tavern owners must protect the village by earning enough gold to pay off a nearby Warlord in time to stop him from raiding the village. Each player must raise at least 20 gold within the number of rounds selected from the Challenge Chart for all the players to win!
Team Play: Local tavern guilds are at war for the Patrons of the village of Redstaff. They can buy their guild exclusive rights to sell in the village, but only if they can bribe the tax collector enough! Once any player has 20 or more gold the game ends, and the team with the most gold wins!
Solo Play: The tavern owner must raise enough gold to pay off the King's tax collector in time before the tavern is closed for good! The player must have at least 20 gold within the number of rounds selected from the Challenge Chart for the player to win!
The game has three phases: Day Phase, Night Phase, and Counting The Till.
During Day Phase, players purchase Goods and hire Staff from the cards they hold with their Gold. Players can trade Goods and Staff from their hand or their Tavern with other players.
During Night Phase, players play Patrons from their hand which want something in their Tavern. Patrons leave and are discarded at the end of the round, except when your Tavern has something they like to keep them there.
During Counting The Till, players count up the Gold they earn for the round, then discard any Patrons who aren't staying. Each Patron pays 1 Gold, except Nobles which pay 2 Gold. Some Goods and Staff also provide additional Gold under certain conditions.
One key feature in this game is Trading. Players can trade goods and staff cards from their hand or their tavern, which adds for both a fun game dynamic and great player interaction.
Another fun dynamic is that turns are taken simultaneously during each Phase, so there is no "player down-time". Also, there is no "player elimination".
In the base game of Tavern Masters, there are no "take that" cards, or cards which would negatively impact another player directly. This makes for less tense game-play for players who do not enjoy looking over their shoulder each turn at who will attack or betray them.
For players who do enjoy more of the "take that" card play interaction, there is the Dirty Deeds Expansion, which adds in nasty tricks to play on the other tavern owners. The Dirty Deeds Expansion is mainly intended for Competitive Play mode.
We have an awesome video review by Undead Viking! Check it out!
Now we also have a great 2-player game play and review by Ant Lab Games! Here it is!
I also did a fun interview with Jeff Beck from "Your Table's On Fire" about the history of Tavern Masters, how I approach game design, and some other fun tidbits! Check it out here!
We also made our own How To Play video for you to learn more about Tavern Masters! Give it a watch!

Tavern Masters, the Dirty Deeds Expansion, the Games Of Chance Mini-Expansion, all promo cards, and basically all Tavern Masters materials are beautifully illustrated by the talented fantasy artist Galen Ihlenfeldt, who has been working tirelessly on getting all the art done for this exciting game. The art is designed to herald back to the olden days of role-playing, for a new yet familiar experience!
Here's Galen painting the Pit Fighter card art in a time lapse video!
If you are lucky enough to get to pledge at one of the Portrait Levels, you will be asked to send a picture of yourself that will be used as a likeness reference. You may be posed in a slightly different way, and there may be fantasy aspects added on, such as elf ears if you are being painted as an elf NPC.
Galen works very hard to ensure that your likeness will be recognizable, yet will keep with the look of the rest of the game. We will discuss with you some options of cards for you to be painted on, and will work with you on finding the right card to fit the likeness and your personal style.
Each of these Portrait Levels will also come with a signed, framed copy of the card which bears your likeness, perfect to decorate your favorite gaming room (which, if you are my family, is the kitchen). This will make a wonderful keepsake and trophy for years to come, to capture the moment and relive the experience of helping to make this thrilling game a reality!
The first Stretch Goal Add-On is a set of metal Tavern Masters coins, for a more immersive Tavern-running experience, plus they make for great fantasy gold to use in other tabletop and role-playing games!
We've even offered a special two-pack price in case you want two sets, to give you the full normal game set worth of coins!
For Our Brick & Mortar Retailers: You can contact DKG through our website www.DannKrissGames.com or contact me at "email@example.com" to find out about retail pricing on the Tavern Masters game, plus any Expansions and Add-Ons. Each game, Expansion, and Add-On is bar-coded and "retail ready" for ease of sale!
I've done the best I can to push the best Stretch Goal items up to the front as far as I can! I really hope we can unlock them, because each of them would be so awesome to have to use in the game!
Free Shipping to the USA
Only $10 extra to any other Worldwide destination for most Pledge Levels
Of course, when we say "Free Shipping to the USA", it doesn't mean that we have somehow sweet-talked our local Post Office to benevolently send out all our domestic packages for free!
Each Pledge comes with around $10 allocated for dealing with shipping charges. This same $10 has been applied to the overall cost of international shipping. These games are already bulky (compared to, say, a card deck or some dice), and shipping has become rather costly over the last few years, but we want our backers, especially our international brothers and sisters, to be able to play this fun game as well without it costing twice as much.
Thanks to Stuart at Red Dice Games, we are now able to offer EU Friendly fulfillment! For you EU backers out there, we'll cover all the VAT and fees, you just enjoy your product!
We will be using multiple shipping locations worldwide to help keep our shipping costs as low for backers as possible. If we can manage to ship from warehouses inside regional shipping areas to help avoid costly taxes, we will try to make that happen. If not, then we will do our best to help keep any local fees and charges as minimal as possible. However, given the constant high price and global rise of international shipping costs, we have to make sure to charge enough to ensure that we can successfully ship the items without any complications.
Here are some fresh new Tavern Masters Kickstarter Backer Avatars:
Dann Kriss Games, LLC is a small publishing company in the back woods of southeast Texas dedicated to publishing the various games and gaming accessories designed and developed by Dann Kriss.
Dann has been designing games since his early teenage years, and decided to found DKG in order to help share his games with his fellow gamers, dreamers, families, and friends all over the world.
We create games that we like to play, finding a perfect marriage of fun and exciting mechanics to fit our richly detailed thematic designs, and manufacture with quality and endurance in mind, developing the kind of components and accessories that we feel makes each game the best it can be.
We will always do our best to give you the best experience possible, from the moment you hear about our products until the very last time you roll some dice or shuffle a deck.
Risks and challenges
This is our fifth Kickstarter project, and we have worked hard to make sure that all of the details have been worked out to ensure a smooth project from launch 'til the final rewards package is delivered. We have learned many lessons throughout our past campaigns, sometimes the hard way, and we have double- and triple-checked our data to avoid repeating any past difficulties. That being said, every new product is a new challenge, and comes with new obstacles to face and new situations to handle; however we have built a network of support in our time on Kickstarter, and feel confident that we can face any obstacle, weather any storm, and still provide our backers with a quality product and a quality experience in the end.
We are planning to use multiple shipping firms worldwide for fulfillment to help keep our shipping costs low, and any possible taxes or fees low, or if possible removed, for our international backers. We want to make Tavern Masters affordable for everyone to enjoy! We have not personally worked with some of the shipping firms before, but each one has come highly recommended by other Kickstarter creators who have used them successfully for multiple projects in the past year.
Signed items will have to be shipped to me first, so those pledge level rewards may take slightly longer to ship out to their final destination, as they will have an additional stop in their journey.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
