Cthulhu: The Great Old One (Deluxe Edition) (Canceled)
Brand New Special Deluxe Edition with all new gameplay, new Horror cards and actions, and gorgeous new card layouts from Dann Kriss
Cthulhu: The Great Old One is an exciting quick-play set collection game with "take that" cards and alternate in-game win AND lose conditions. More than that, Cthulhu:TGOO is a tribute to the writings of 1920's horror author Howard Phillips Lovecraft, and to some of those who have kept his works not only alive but thriving in our modern culture. Each card is taken directly from the writings of Lovecraft, calling to mind the settings and events from his varied tales.
This new Deluxe Edition evolves gameplay and mechanics from the original edition of the game, adding in "Sign" cards which can negate the effects of Horror cards, as well as making the flow of play much more smooth, and the experiences more varied between each playthrough session. With the new poker-sized cards and drawing system, hands are easy to manage and fun to wield against your opponents.
Each game comes in a two-piece box, along with a rulebook and a 93 card deck.
This will be the first edition to enter world-wide distribution after the game is manufactured, so I will be manufacturing enough copies to fulfill pledge rewards plus additional units to send to game stores around the world! By pledging on this project, you are not only getting a great game that is easy to bring along with you and quick to both learn and play, but also helping me to share Cthulhu: The Great Old One with the world!
Cthulhu: The Great Old One (Deluxe Edition) is made by me, Dann Kriss. I have been making games since I was a young boy, and now - in my late 30's - have spent the past 12 years focused on designing some of the most fun and exciting games for you to play. Tavern Masters, our first big game to enter worldwide distribution, is already becoming a big hit on every table it plays on.
The beautiful artwork for Cthulhu:TGOO was hand-crafted by the world-renowned artist Ian Daniels, a highly talented gothic fantasy artist known for his Tarot Of The Vampyres and Faerie Enchantments Oracle decks.
The game itself will be manufactured by Whatz Games, whom we have worked with on our previous project Tavern Masters. The game will be printed on high quality 300gsm black core stock with a protective varnish and a linen finish.
After some growing pains on our first collaboration with Whatz Games, we have now significantly improved communications between us, and have a much better understanding of what each side needs to do and to have prepared in order to ensure each phase of this project going smoothly.

Yes, we have several Add-Ons available to this campaign. To "Add On" an item, simply add the Add-On's pledge amount to the Pledge Level amount you select when you make your pledge. If you have already made a pledge, you can click on "Manage My Pledge" to adjust your pledge amount, simply increase it by the pledge amount of the Add-On.
This campaign utilizes the trusted and secure services of PledgeManager, a service provided by the Kicktraq team, as we have with every previous campaign we have run. Once this campaign ends successfully, the PledgeManager will launch soon after, allowing you to manage your pledge, adjust your shipping address, select Add-On items which you pledged for, or even add on new items to your existing pledge. We will also be handling shipping charges through PledgeManager once fulfillment is ready to begin.
With each copy of Cthulhu: The Great Old One in your Pledge level, you will receive a Promo Pack of 14 special Cthulhu:TGOO Promo cards, most of which will only be available in the future at various conventions or special events, including a special Kickstarter Exclusive Version of the Herbert West: Reanimator Horror card. If the Backer Goal is unlocked, a secret Kickstarter Exclusive Cultist card will be added to each Promo pack.
I am already working with Whatz Games to make sure that the print files are ready to roll soon after the campaign succeeds at funding. The only items that still need to be manufactured are the game itself and the Elder Sign lapel pin; all other items are ready to ship.
Here is the estimated timeline for manufacturing, shipping, and delivery based on previous experience:
April 30th - Campaign ends, pre-production wraps up
May 10th - PledgeManager launched
May 15th - Funds arrive from Kickstarter
June 1st - Final order totals placed with Whatz
Dec 1st - Manufacturing wraps up, Freight ship items to USA
Jan 15th - Games arrive, Shipping payment collected, Fulfillment begins
February 1st - Fulfillment wraps up!
Once the games and Elder Sign lapel pins are finished being manufactured, Whatz will freight ship them directly to DKG Headquarters here in Texas, where I will sort and ship them by USPS Flat Rate and Priority mail, whichever is cheaper in each instance.
Once fulfillment is ready to begin and we have all final item weights in hand, shipping payments will be calculated and collected through the PledgeManager. As shipping payments arrive, the pledge goods will be shipped out to the most recent address listed in the backer's PledgeManager. Please make sure to keep your address updated!
For EU fulfillment, I will try to find a way to ship directly from the EU to keep shipping costs as low as possible, while also trying to keep backers from having to worry about any VAT expenses. It is my plan to freight ship all the EU fulfillment items to a single EU fulfillment center to ship individual orders from.
Risks and challenges
The only risks involved with this project are possible manufacturing delays and any freight shipping complications between China and the USA.
In previous campaigns we have encountered issues where shipping was trusted to various shipping coordinators and those companies did not accurately communicate shipping methods, packing methods, or shipping costs. While these problems caused delays, I took care of those costs out of my own pocket and did everything necessary to fulfill my promise to my backers. To ensure that this is not the case, I will be handling fulfillment packing and shipping myself through USPS Flat Rate and Priority shipping.
We have worked with Whatz Games before, and while there were some issues that arose last time, I have personally talked at length with them to ensure those issues will no longer come up or raise a problem, and they have assured me that they will give us 110% percent of their attention and effort.
Starting with this campaign, my vice-president Phil will be taking over direct communication with backers regarding any campaign issues or concerns. Backers can still write to let me know what they think of my games or tell me about gaming sessions, but Phil will be able to handle any issues or answer any questions that arise, allowing me more time to ensure that each stage of this campaign, including post-campaign and fulfillment, go smoothly.
This should allow me more time to post weekly updates to keep backers abreast of each step of the campaign, even if not much happens in a week.
At Dann Kriss Games, I always seek to make sure that my customers come first. We will always go out of our way - within reason, of course - to make sure that you are pleased with your pledge rewards. I believe in making top-quality games and top-quality items and accessories to add to your continued enjoyment of my games.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
