Everland #2 is a 31 page full-colour digital comic created and illustrated by Dan Lee. It contains 25 pages of story plus a back-up comic strip by John Atkinson.

The first issue introduced Hadrian Vark, an ex-PMC soldier hired to go undercover in the utopian society of Everland. His mission; to take down Everland’s corrupt head of security, Donald McQueen.

In the second issue we follow Vark as he settles into his new life as an Everland beat cop trying to work his way up the ladder to McQueen’s inner circle.

We also delve into the lives of two life-long Everland residents, Audrey and Stan, a young couple soon to be married. Audrey struggles with the pressures put upon her by Stan and his family and the thought of married life.

Praise for Everland #1

"Slow burn as the mystery builds. All points lead to something explosive, hopefully in the most crushing way possible." Michel Fiffe (COPRA, All-New Ultimates)

“Visually, EVERLAND is stunning. Dan Lee is a master of color, achieving lush tones that make the story and the setting come alive. The use of pinks especially feels both sickly sweet and jarring. Importantly, the visual components serve the heavy world-building that the story hinges on. This first issue only hints at the world’s underpinnings, which is a smart move – much of the drama would be lost if we knew all the ins and outs of Everland up front. Instead, we enter the atmosphere much as protagonist Hadrian Vark does, bewildered and out of place. It’s a pleasurable disorientation that leaves a lot of room for wonder.” - Luc Boyce www.comicsverse.com

Everland is an ongoing digital comic book series aimed at mature readers. Last summer, thanks to the wonderful support of the comics and Kickstarter community I was able to raise nearly ten times the amount of my Kickstarter goal which afforded me the time to produce the second issue of my story.

With me currently working on colouring and lettering the book, Everland #2 is incredibly close to completion. With your support on this campaign, I will be able to hold off taking freelance work in order to focus my efforts on pushing #2 over the finish line and then swiftly move on to creating #3.

Everland is a high-concept, character-driven comic book series, taking inspiration from long form comics and television shows such as Y: The Last Man, Scalped, Lost and Breaking Bad as well as stories and myths surrounding the world of Walt Disney and the animation industry. Everland uses its bright and colourful utopian backdrop to contrast the darker inner lives of the people who live there.

 Between the Issues

After delivering all the rewards for the original campaign last year, I immediately began work on issue 2, completing half of the issue’s pencils and inks by Christmas. At the beginning of the new year I had to take on some freelance work before I could get back to finishing up the remainder of the issue. Pencils and inks were completed in early March and I am now halfway through colouring the book, which will be completed, along with lettering by the end of this campaign, allowing for a swift delivery of the comic in digital form.

If you are returning to this campaign after reading and supporting issue 1, I’d like to thank you sincerely for allowing me to create and share this comic with you. And if you are a newcomer, I’d like to welcome you to Everland !

Below you can learn more about the world, story and characters of Everland, and also learn more about what sparked the idea.

You can also learn more about the comic via the campaign video for issue 1.

In the 1970s, the world-renowned animation pioneer Rupert N. Ever grew tired with the world he lived in. He dreamed of a utopia. A wealthy man, he bought a vast amount of land in the Middle-East and built Everland, a wonderful amalgamation of American culture, ranging from the 1910s right up to the 1960s, completely walled off from the rest of the world.

Decades later, the reclusive Ever smells rot in the financial foundations of Everland and it emanates from the head of his secret police. With no one to be trusted, Mr. Ever and his people are forced to bring in an outsider to go undercover; ex-PMC soldier, Hadrian Vark.

On the run from a darkened past himself, the deeper Vark delves into this fairytale world, the more he realises that utopia comes at a price.

Work on issue 2 will be complete by the end of May, making it available for delivery no later than two weeks after the campaign’s end. All physical reward tiers will be produced and shipped within eight weeks of the campaign's end.

The money raised in this campaign will help me cover software, editing and lettering costs to put the finishing touches on issue 2. Any additional money raised passed the funding goal will be invested straight into the production of issue 3, allowing me to hold off taking freelance work to spend more time working on the comic.

I have a background in animation, working on several children’s cartoons and in advertising. Some of the children’s shows I have worked on are the Mr. Bean animated series, The Numtums, Iconicles and Soli and Mo, airing across BBC and ITV networks.

I studied animation at university and have been working on scripts and comics since my teens.

Additional Creators

John Atkinson - John helped to design the mascot characters, and contributed the back-up comic strip ‘The Funny Follies of Fiddle D. Flea’. He is an animator and cartoonist currently based in Manchester. You can check out more of his brilliant work at www.johnned.com

Windmill (Matthew Dillon, composer of 'Everland Theme') - Matthew grew up in the English suburbs. For his 16th Birthday he asked for an Electronic Keyboard as an outlet for his imagination. Over the next few years, he set about teaching himself everything he could about experimental music and composition, creating countless recordings. It would be these recordings that would see Matthew leaving suburbia, and travelling the world, sharing billings with acts such as The National, St. Vincent, Smashing Pumpkins and Vampire Weekend. Matthew's albums have gained mass critical acclaim and his songs have featured across TV Shows, Commercials and Radio Playlists the world over. For more on Matthew visit www.matthewthomasdillon.com

Risks and challenges

Should the funding goal be reached, there are minimal risks to this project. With the bulk of the work already completed, and the distribution of the comic being completely digital, the product is guaranteed to be on time. As for the higher tier rewards, these will be produced and shipped out within eight weeks of the campaign ending.
