Mankind's Destiny: A Blaphemous Tale Of Vengeance (Canceled)
Mankind's Destiny is a blasphemous tale of unrelenting vengeance that combines fantasy, horror, dystopia, romance, and philosophy!
I'm raising this money to get the first few editions of Mankind's Destiny, the BADDEST story ever put to paper, into the hands of you, the backer. This blasphemous tale of unrelenting vengeance combines fantasy, dystopia, romance, philosophy, and horror all into one, culminating into a grim and powerful, yet beautiful, experience!
This book is fully written, professionally edited, is just over 118,000 words long, and has over thirty chapters.
If you're a killjoy, then maybe this isn't for you. But if you're looking for an intense tale jam-packed with bombastic action, philosophy, witty dialogue, horror, twists, turns, romance, a unique setting, and outrageously over-the-top vengeance, then you've come to the right place, my friend. Mankind's Destiny is a tale four years in the making, and now that it's finally here, this bad boi is ready knock your socks off!
If you just can't wait to read this beast, then you're in luck, because I'll be uploading readings of the first FOUR chapters of this beast to my channel, here. Though in the video I announce chapters three and four as coming soon, I've decided to just make all of them available from the get-go. These readings are complete with sound effects, music, and pictures to help thrust you right into the world of Mankind's Destiny! If that isn't your style, you can read and/or download the first four chapters from the Dropbox link here. For backers, you'll also receive access to chapter five via a dropbox link in a backers-only update. However, there isn't a video for that chapter. I'll be dropping that hot potato on April twenty ninth. For backers who pledge fifteen dollars or higher, you'll also get access to chapter six! I'll release that one on May eleventh. If you want to watch the first video, check this out. If you're lactose intolerant, though, I should warn you that these videos might give you a fatal dose of cheese.
Mankind's Destiny is set three hundred years after the world was nearly obliterated by a vicious war waged between the gods. After creating their own religion—Paargoor—the victors have since assumed power over what little remains of humanity, keeping them oppressed under the thumb of theocracy. While the gods sit in their ornate palace, sipping fancy beverages and eating rich food, most of the commoners are rotting in poverty. With a three hundred foot-tall wall surrounding what appears to be the last of mankind, escape is impossible.
And what's the point of having such a grim setting without also having a tale of vengeance to go along with it? Avery Stevens is a deeply disturbed heretic who lurks in the darkness to avoid a public execution for his unrelenting life of crime. After the death of his elder brother, Avery sets out to topple the regime. Because heresy is a crime punished by death, he sees no other solution than revolution. The only hope there is for heretics to one day live freely is a group spoken of in whispers called the Secularist Forces, a military force whose goal is to overthrow the gods.
When Avery and his best-friend, Olag, discover a dirty secret the gods have kept hidden away from the public, however, Avery sets out on a brand new quest. A quest that will show him both the beauty of mankind and depths of human depravity.
I believe that fantasy and dystopia readers are generally smart people, and as smart people, I'm sure some philosophy will spice up this grim tail. As much as I LOVE dark reads, I think they feel shallow and incomplete unless all the grimness and violence does something to make me think or feel. Also, please note that no opinion or worldview in this story is meant to reflect my own or anyone else's other than the views of the fictional characters.
Avery's quest across many forgotten lands will show him the depths of human depravity and will also test how far he's willing to go to find freedom. Filled with some of the most sickeningly twisted imagery imaginable, Mankind's Destiny is a tale not intended for the squeamish and will disturb even the most avid horror readers.
Digital rewards will be delivered via backer-only updates tailored to each reward tier. These updates will include a a dropbox link where you can download each item. The digital copy of Mankind's Destiny included with all reward tiers will be available as soon as the project ends. The personalized thank you note will be written in pencil on the interior of your copy of Mankind's Destiny and will be exclusive to YOUR copy. No one else will be able to see it. I decided to go with pencil instead of pen, because it's less likely to smear or bleed through any pages. The exclusive access to chapters five and six will be available via a backer's-only update after I have posted them. The thank you message in the beginning of the book will include your name/username/pseudo-name and will be included in every copy of Mankind's Destiny. You will be immortalized in each and every copy. I don't do Twitter handles. Twenty-five character limit. Your name will be displayed beside everyone else's who backed at this level or higher and will be printed into every book. For the Google Hangout, I'll call you at the email address you include in the survey after the project ends. If you're awesome enough to pick the beta-reader tier, I'll ask for your twitter handle in the backer survey. When Road Rage is ready for you beta-readers, I'll place the PDF in a backer-only update for you to download and read. If the $150 reward tier sells out, you'll still be eligible for a google hangout 1 on 1 if you want one.
At 12k, the book will be printed with matte lamination instead of glossy lamination. I also ain't no one-trick-pony, kids! The dream is to reach the main goal of 25k instead of just the basic goal of 10k. This would allow me to purchase superior recording equipment and improve the Dank Productions Youtube channel. I mean, it IS called Dank PRODUCTIONS. It ain't just Dank BOOKS! Superior equipment would improve the quality of readings on future stories, let my friends and I record skits, and will include gaming videos. Many laughs await at this goal. My current setup is, well, unimpressive. All I have right now is a potato-camera, a laptop that is literally falling apart, and one of those tables that has the sewing machine inside. Any money raised beyond 25k will STILL be immensely helpful. It won't be paying my bills or paying for my dates (not that I ever have dates :p). Every penny of it will be invested into printing/editing books and the Dank Productions Youtube channel.
Backing the project and selecting which reward you want is obviously the best way you can help. You can also upgrade your pledge for more rewards or pledge without selecting a reward.
There are other ways you can help this project, too. First of all, you can follow me @DANKPR0DUCTIONS and tweet about the project using #MankindsDestiny Twitter hashtags don't seem to appreciate the apostrophe as much as I do, so no apostrophe. Also be sure to share this with your friends on Facebook and Reddit or wherever else and encourage them to check out the project.
If you're in a student group or organization, get your school or organization involved. I'd say this book is appropriate for people around sixteen or older. Some of the subject matter in this story is better suited for an audience more mature than thirteen year old edgelords.
Printing books costs money, and most printing-presses will reduce the cost per-book the more you order. Mine is one of those printers. So, ironically, it's cheaper to purchase 1000 books than it is 999. I based 10k and 12k goal on the combined cost of printing and shipping 1000 books, since the cost-per book is the lowest at 1000 books and above. Printing 1000 copies of the book will cost me $5500. Shipping the books to my house for me to sign them will cost about $1000 totaling $6500. The physical copy of the book is NOT a limited reward, though. So if I get more than 1000 orders for the book, I'll print more than that. The cost of shipping is the same for Matte cover books, but purchasing 1000 copies will instead cost $7500
You'll also see that there is a four dollar shipping charge on each of the rewards $15 or higher. This should be enough for me to ship to anywhere within the United States.
This will leave me with $3500 left over. This money is to pay Kickstarter's fees, and creates a bit of a cushion in case anything goes wrong during shipping or production, but I don't anticipate that happening. Assuming no screw ups during production, this money will be spent getting my next book, Road Rage, edited and preparing for another project here on Kickstarter.
ANY money left over after these expenses will be spent on you, the fans, by further improving the Dank Productions Youtube channel and creating new books.
I'm just a long-haired bro from Vermont who writes over-the-top stories and has an impressive schlong. Growing up, I didn't fit in that well. I was that one weird kid at school who at recess you'd see all alone having his own little adventures. I started working on this beast of a story one night for no other reason than I was bored. It was just kinda something to pass the time. I guess somewhere along the way, that all changed, and here I am. Writing is what I love more than anything in the world, so I said 'screw college! I'm gonna be an author!" I was never cut out for college, and being a successful author had been a dream of mine since I was eight years old, so here I am! I've had to work incredibly hard to get to this point. I got a job when I was a teenager, which I had to balance with school and writing books. Bye-bye, social life! I worked a retail job where I had to gather up carts outside my local grocery store in Vermont. And let me tell you, the climate in Vermont is actual hell. My soulless, ginger skin got burned in the one-hundred degree summer sun, and in winter I had to work in temperatures below negative ten-degrees Fahrenheit in the dark. All of this was because I wanted to achieve my dream of being an author. I like blurring the lines between genres, because screw conforming to the standards and writing another unoriginal pile of dog crap! First and foremost, I write these stories for myself—stories that I know I would like. I figure if I like them, some other people like them too. I decided to use Kickstarter because getting a book published when you're a first time author is hard, and this will help me build a community around my work. When I'm not working on these stories, I like playing vidya gams, playing the piano, and lifting. I'm just here to add a little chaos to the book world.

Risks and challenges
I've never done a project like this in the past, and as such don't have an established fanbase. Immediately, the greatest challenge this project faces is bringing enough people together so we can get this bad boy funded! Aside from backing, the best thing you can do to help here is share the project with your friends.
There is a pretty obvious risk with this project: If it fails, I'll look like a stupid idiot. No publisher will EVER be interested in buying a book that the author doesn't know how to sell.
If this campaign succeeds, I'd like to get Mankind's Destiny into your hands sometime in June. You'll notice the fulfillment date is set for August, though. This gives us some wiggle room, in case of unexpected delays. I don't anticipate them happening, but it still creates a cushion just in case. This book is finished, but production, signing, and writing notes still takes time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
