Growing up in acting classes and on stage, I knew had the passion and drive to make what I want happen but it took me a long time to realize that was music. For a long time, I didn't think I was good enough to really focus on music until I met the most amazing vocal coach, Yunga Webb, who brought something out of me that had been hiding my entire life...my true love was singing.
Shortly after I joined a cover band in Los Angeles, I took a spontaneous trip to Nashville to see what it was like. I fell in love. With the music, with the community, with the creativity. It was thriving. And just a few months later, I stuffed my car full of (almost) all of my belongings and drove it across the country. (I crashed it into a ditch on the way and it's kind of a miracle I'm alive but that's another story.)
When I got to Nashville, I hit the ground running. Truly alone for the first time, I went to writers rounds and bars and introduced myself to anyone I could. I got names of people who were friends of friends. I set up tons of meetings and cowrites. When I finally played my first writers round, and performed MY OWN MUSIC with my own words and melodies for the first time, it was like coming home.
Recording an album has always been a dream; now it has become my main focus. But DANG! they are NOT CHEAP. So I'm starting with a 5-song EP (maybe a bonus track depending on the funds raised). And here's where I NEED YOU. I've got all the tools. I've got an amazing team. I've cowritten some amazing songs. I've got the passion, and my tenacity is stronger than ever. Now I am asking YOU to join me in making this vision come to life.
And when you do, I'm going to send you some EXCLUSIVE OFFERS for your commitment to this journey and for your pledge. Seriously, anything helps. I can't wait for you to hear what I've been working on. I've never been more excited!
Producer: I'm working with up-and-coming producer Luke Forehand, who also engineers and teaches at Blackbird Studio. He produced my friend Lexie Hayden’s 2017 EP (which is amazing and has gotten her lots of attention), as well as Tara Tinsley, Jack Berry, Ty Cooper, and Union Sound Treaty. He sees my vision. He hears my voice. He understands my sound and my goals. He has all of the right tools, and we can't wait to get started on this EP together.
Musicians: It is incredibly important to me that we use LIVE studio musicians. You'll hear real guitars, real drums, real keys. You'll also hear some steel (my favorite!) and maybe some fiddle, mandolin, or banjo.... who knows!
Recording Studio: This is one I'm SUPER excited about. Do me (and yourself) a favor and just look up the Castle Recording Studios in Franklin, TN. Gorgeous, right? THAT'S WHERE I'M RECORDING. Not only is the sound incredible, but it's also affordable (which is a BIG bonus). I'll be recording in the same place that so many names you know have recorded, such as Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Bruce Springsteen, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Wynonna Judd, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Etta James, Phish, and even Snoop Dogg, among many others.
Music Video: I've got an amazing videographer, Lexy Kadey with Copper Saw Films, who did THIS VIDEO and has been so helpful already! She recently directed and filmed a documentary about the first openly gay Miss America contestant that is being accepted to film festivals all across the country. I'm so excited for her to be a part of this!
Now, releasing an EP is not just recording and calling it good. It's also marketing and distribution, getting it into the hands of the right promoters for radio and booking, photos (which obviously include makeup and hair), and SO. MUCH. MORE. You would be helping to make some magic in this little lady's life. And then I will be returning it to you in the form of music. Thanks for reading, and most of all, thanks for listening!
Risks and challenges
As you can see above, I have a pretty detailed plan and outline. I have full faith in my producer, my songs, and myself that whatever challenges come our way, we will push through and come out even better. I plan to release the EP by September and there will be plenty of time from the end of the kickstarter until the release date for any detours or delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
