Photo-main

A photo documentary of the most dangerous motorcycle race in the world.

Imagine for two weeks a year, the streets in your city are shut down and converted into a world-renowned race track where motorcycle racers from all over the world come to risk their lives to achieve international glory. For the residents of a small island between Ireland and Great Britain, it really happens.

Having claimed the title of both the most prestigious and the most dangerous motorcycle race in the world, the Isle of Man TT enters its 105th year of competition this summer. The legendary road course is 37.7 miles long, features over 200 turns per lap through the island's narrow residential streets and scenic mountain roads, and allows for zero margin of error. The fastest racers have breached a hair-raising average speed of 130mph, and that's including the pit stops.

Among the ranks of competitors out to conquer the Isle of Man TT is a full-time truck mechanic-turned-global superstar by the name of Guy Martin. Despite a staggering 13 podium finishes under his belt and coming tantalizingly close to winning on multiple occasions, a TT victory continues to elude the popular fan favorite. It has never been a question of speed. Guy holds the third fastest lap time in the history of the iconic race but his efforts have been undermined by what can only be described as bad luck, including a myriad of machine malfunctions and a fiery wreck that nearly killed him in the 2010 event. Now at 30 years of age (practically a senior citizen in the two-wheeled racing world) and with the TT's future perpetually in doubt due to safety concerns, the window of opportunity is rapidly closing for Guy to take his rightful place in the history books.

For 2012, Guy has the backing of a world class race team he is familiar with as well as top level machinery at his disposal. That elusive first win may very well turn into reality in a few months' time, and with your help I will be there to document that remarkable achievement in the form of a photo book that definitively captures not only what would be a historic moment in the world of motorcycle racing, but also a century-old tradition that has united generations of racing enthusiasts the world over.

Thanks for reading.
