Welcome to my Kickstarter page.
Thanks for visiting.
Most people know me as the author of "This Is Your Brain On Music", "The Organized Mind" and other books. Before I became a full time writer, I was a professor of behavioral neuroscience at McGill University.
Before that I worked as a producer with some amazing musicians, including Steely Dan, Barbra Streisand, and Stevie Wonder. Most of my work was behind the scenes, but I've even performed with heroes like Neil Young and Rosanne Cash! Over the years, these and other musicians inspired and encouraged me to write my own material. It's taken me a while to find my voice, but I feel like I've finally written songs that other people would like to hear!
A huge step in my evolution as a songwriter came when I teamed up with producer Christopher Harrison, a founding member of the Verve recording artists SONOS (now Arora), and a talented singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with the Pentatonix and the Pet Shop Boys. Even though my name doesn't start with a P, he agreed to produce me.
I play guitars, bass, and vocals. Christopher plays guitar, bass, vocals, drums and keyboards. In addition, some very special guests have donated their time and exquisite playing to help bring these songs to life.
- Elliott Randall (Steely Dan, David Bowie) plays electric guitar.
- Victor Wooten (Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Chick Corea) plays bass.
- Steve Bailey (Dizzy Gillespie, Willie Nelson) plays bass.
- Edmund Littlefield, Jr. (Marley's Ghost, Lance Romance) plays pedal steel guitar.
- Andy Fraga, Jr. (Queen Latifah, Tom Scott) plays drums.
- Rachel Bearer (Pentatonix, Pet Shop Boys, and the singing voice of Barbie in movies) sings background vocals.
- Julie Rogers (Johnny Mathis, Katy Perry, Fargo) plays violin. https://rachaelscornerweb.wordpress.com/2017/01/25/meet-julie-rogers/
WHAT AM I MAKING?
I'm making an album of my own songs, to be released digitally and on CD. If there's enough demand, on vinyl too.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
The musicians worked for free, but I still need to pay for the mastering, art work, printing, and manufacturing of CDs. I already paid for the recording engineer and studio and hope to reimburse myself from this Kickstarter campaign. I am not taking any money for myself. Any money raised over the target amount will go toward marketing and publicity, making a music video, and releasing the album on vinyl.
ANOTHER SONG SAMPLE
Here's another song from the CD, featuring Victor Wooten on bass and the amazing Andy Fraga, Jr. on drums. See if you can figure what it's about. I started the song years ago. The first three lines were written by George Harrison.
Risks and challenges
There are very few risks because the album is already recorded — it just needs to be mixed and mastered. I've made CDs before and in the old days I made vinyl records, as a producer and engineer and record company A&R manager, so I know how to finish a project and deliver it to market.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
