This past summer I was offered the opportunity to move to Royal Oak, MD and begin recording this project in late August. I packed up my gear and headed north from NC to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I set up my studio in an old library fifty feet from the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. During the past four months, I've been recording steadily and the sound has been coming together. My initial intention was that the record be relatively simple (mostly guitar, vocals, harmonica and sparse piano). These plans were made in North Carolina, where I spent the last year writing the material for this record. Once I began to track in the old library, it seemed like the new location bled into and filled out my intentions. My predetermined structures for the songs began expanding and the shapes began changing as I was influenced by the wind whipping off the bay, the seagulls, crickets and the sound a drum stick made when I dropped it on the tambourine sitting on a stained wood table. I have made some serious headway on the project, but still have a long way to go.
The main roadblock is finances. I hope to release this project in August or September of 2011 and, having access to the library space until May, I will continue to track while hoping that you join me in this endeavor.
Upon completion and during the rest of the tracking, I will be organizing a release event that will occur on the day the album is available. This event will be a live expression of the hundreds of hours poured into the production of this music. I would love all of my supporters on the project to be a part of the event whether they can attend or just be involved from afar!
The production and release of a record is a large expense. By producing it myself I am cutting down on costs. Also, having the library studio space is a huge help. I am setting the goal at $7,500 and although this will not cover the full cost, it will make the completion of the project possible. The money will be specifically going toward these expenses: tracking and mastering the album, paying a local artist to create the album artwork, the printing and promotion costs, to name a few. (If you want to know more about the finances email me at email@example.com and I'll send you a more specific budget breakdown.)
With your help, I will release this album at the end of the summertime. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and if you have a bit more time, please check out the video to see and hear specifics. Please forward the link for this site to any and everyone who would be interested in this project.
I am truly thankful to be making music.
ps - The songs featured on the video are tracks I am working on for the current album!
pps - Any amount is greatly appreciated! The price break downs are simply for the rewards.
