The Tech Demo is a way for me to show off the engine behind StellarBrink as I add new features to the game, so that you, as backers, can see progress.
What is StellarBrink?
StellarBrink is a single player/multiplayer video game set in a futuristic universe full of warring factions and exotic locations. You are a mercenary trying to make ends meet however you can. The center of your world is your starship, and its interior is where you build your home. Each location in StellarBrink is made up of 3D tiles that can be removed and replaced, allowing players to customize each of the locations they visit. With strong role-playing elements and story-driven missions, StellarBrink is an open-world, single player/multiplayer video game like you've never seen before.
StellarBrink is centered around the player's character and his starship in a vast randomly generated universe. The locations in StellarBrink are made up of completely changeable tiles that can be removed and placed at will. The player's starship interior is their home base... designed how the player wants it to be... using consoles, walls, any tile in the game.
What games Is It Similar To?
StellarBrink has many influences when it comes to what inspired each aspect of the game. The tile's engine, placement and removal were inspired by Minecraft and Terraria, as were the inventory and hot-bar systems. The combat system was inspired by action/rpg games based around fast-paced strafing against oncoming enemies. What Platforms Are StellarBrink Going To Be Released On?
Anything I can get it on is the short answer. PC, MAC, and LINUX are the starting targets for release. I want to create console and mobile versions if money and time allow.
What has been completed so far?
In three short months, I have completed the engine that runs each location in StellarBrink. I now have to ability to put new locations into the game in a very short time. I have completed the following sections of the game and adding new content now is quick and easy:
- Tiles (placing and removing to and from any location complete)
- Atomic Storage (storage for player's resources)
- Atomization System (recycle any item or tile for resources)
- Replication System (the crafting system of StellarBrink that uses player's resources to fabricate new items)
- Starship Interiors
- Starship Weapon Systems
- Asteroid Fields
- Nebula Fields
- Planet Surfaces
- Multi-player Systems Complete (just need to be refined)

What's Coming Soon?
There are a ton of new features in the works, for example: the player's character display, where armor and stats are shown. I plan on continuing to add features to the game and showing them off in the Tech Demo so that backers can see the progress and touch it as it goes along in development.
What Is The Shadow Faction?
The Shadow Faction is a playable faction in StellarBrink that is considered outcast by the other factions. They travel in the shadows and are the only faction that have Cloaking Devices installed on their starships when built.

I work on StellarBrink full-time, morning to night, with no day job. In the three short months of development so far, I've created everything you see in the video and in the game alone. But my resources are running low. I believe that getting funded will allow me to focus completely on development of StellarBrink. I am committed to putting all my time and energy into this project.

Is the game world intended to be centrally-served and persistent (like EVE Online), or is it going to be player served (like Minecraft)?
As it stands right now, StellarBrink's Universe is persistent and centrally-served. Each "Location" in StellarBrink could be considered a room and each of those rooms can have players enter them. Your starship interior, which is your personal presence in the game, is always active when you enter the game. From this "room" you travel around the universe and enter Solar Systems. In the Solar Systems you fly around in your starship mining, building, and battling. You can transport to other player's starship interiors, large asteroid interiors, starbases, enemy starship interiors (once you lower their shields), and many more locations to come. All locations are saved on the StellarBrink Servers so that if you place a tile in a location it will be saved there. PLEASE NOTE: StellarBrink is no longer a MMORPG but will only be a Single Player/Multiplayer game. The Universe will be created and saved on the host player's system and served across the network to other players in multiplayer.
Yes, the funding does cover the hosting costs which are fairly low at this point. Because of how StellarBrink is designed and because of what is planned for the future, this is not considered a large cost. PLEASE NOTE: StellarBrink is no longer a MMORPG but will only be a Single Player/Multi-player game. Although player accounts will still be hosted on PlayerIO networking services for multi-player matchmaking, achievements, add-ons, DLC, etc.
Very much so. You'll find these all over the place in StellarBrink. NPCs that give missions and trade with players are planned but not, at this point, implemented yet.
In-Game Credits are used all over the place but are NOT centrally used in the main game. You'll be able to play all aspects of the main game without using any credits. Credits are mainly to be used in the soon to be launched mini-game, StellarBrink: Battlegrounds, which will be released in the next month or so. Your StellarBrink Game Account will be used both in the main game and in Battlegrounds to hold your personal information, such as characters, starship interiors, inventory, DLC add-ons, achievements, etc.
How do you intend to balance the backer-only Shadow Faction? Having cloaking abilities sounds very (too?) powerful.
The Shadow Faction is not considered a main faction of the game but a side faction. As a member of the Shadow Faction you'll get access to the Shadow Faction's Sectors of the Universe and will be able to acquire their starships and faction specific items/clothes for your characters. The cloaking devices will defiantly give players a small advantage, but will not affect the balance of the overall game.
