Firstly, a sincere thank you for clicking the link that directed you here. Just a few minutes of your time is greatly appreciated, and please do bare in mind Kickstarter is a 'all or nothing' campaign, so every pre-order genuinely does count.
This campaign enables you to pre-order the feature film The Cult of Nigel. Written & directed by Daniel Harding, with Neil James as Nigel, and produced by 23½ Films in collaboration with Shattered Illusion Films.
The Cult of Nigel has been several years in the making. Daniel has spent the last three or four years making short films to hone his craft and build towards making this project. At the beginning of 2017, Daniel started working on the script which has now been finalised for production. You can back-date the journey so far by visiting The Rambles of a Filmmaker blog.
Also, be sure to check out our info pack for a more detailed account of The Cult of Nigel production, including; synopsis and director's statement.
This is the most important aspect of our production, and one we believe warrants your generosity. The Cult of Nigel is the story of a man who believes he has been abducted by aliens and returned to earth to tell the world what has happened to him. He only has three days to complete his mission before the aliens return to earth to pick him up. But unfortunately for Nigel, everyone thinks he is crazy.
The Cult of Nigel is best described as a 'light-hearted, dark comedy', which highlights the integral aspects of our story that will appeal to a wide audience. It's true that there are not enough dark comedies around, and we want The Cult of Nigel to fill that gap.
'Nigel' will be played by Neil James, who has worked with Daniel on a number of shorter projects, most notably The Missing Hand and Two Pound Forty Pence.
We've also have made the first 10 pages of the script available for you to read. Please take a moment to read the opening scenes of our story.
As you may already know, Daniel has been self-funding his short films since starting 23½ Films over six years ago. However, making a feature film is a tall order and his finances just won't stretch that far (boo!). So that's why we are asking you to pre-order The Cult of Nigel before it is made - this is the key to our pitch!
Daniel and Phil (co-producers) have budgeted the film to cover the most basic of costs - without the £15,000, we simply are unable to make The Cult of Nigel. The money will largely be spent on food & travel, location costs, insurance, permits, costumes, music, as well as hiring any essential equipment. We would agree that films can be made for little money these days, but we believe the £15,000 we are asking for will enable us to make a film worthy of your pennies.
The team is so far made up of writer/director/producer Daniel Harding (Punch Bag, The Missing Hand), producer Phil Harris (Backtrack/The Holly Kane Experiment), actor Neil James (The Missing Hand, Toast, Two Pound Forty Pence), and Georgina Vincent and Beth Bayes who will be working on The Cult of Nigel as co-production managers.
We are extremely lucky to have Phil Harris on board as co-producer. Phil has produced over four feature films, the first of which Backtrack is now on Netflix! He has three more feature films due for release within the next year or so, so his experience is invaluable to us.
So, with a lot of hard work from our dedicated team of filmmakers, we believe The Cult of Nigel will compete with films that have 10x our budget.
Undeniably there are many risks & challenges involved with making a feature film, but that is part of fun and why we will work tirelessly to make sure this film succeeds. Kickstarter is ALL OR NOTHING, so we need to work tirelessly over the next couple of months to drum up as much support and interest in The Cult of Nigel as possible.
Also, the reason Daniel has spent the last several years making short films is to learn and deal with some of those challenges. We are a committed and experienced team of filmmakers that have what it takes to see a feature film through till completion.
We have already started much of the work that will benefit the production long term, which includes finding cast and crew. This campaign is the real start of that journey, and we hope you'll join us for the ride!
