Hi, I'm Daniel de Sosa. I'm an American cartoonist born in the San Fernando Valley, and have been living in London for the past four years. I'm trying to publish the first 5 chapters of my fantasy comic series Oi! Tales of Bardic Fury in a beautiful one-colour manga sized volume. The first five chapters make up the first arc of Oi! and tells a self contained story about the forming of Iron Age Ireland's greatest rock band.
So what's it all about eh?
Oi! is inspired heavily by my passions for rock music, history, and ancient Gaelic culture and mythology. Traditional Irish music and poetry to me is the most beautiful in the world and more people need to know about the cultures great musical history. Iron Age Ireland was a culture controlled by mushroom chewing druids, where music was considered a form of magic, and even had the power to overthrow kings. Druids were like hippy cult leaders and Bards were like rock stars. The more I researched and learned about ancient Irish society, the more ideas and characters began popping in to my head. I had to create a story in this setting. Soon Oi! was born.
The story begins with Bryan, who has has recently graduated from the great Academy of Tara, where he spent 12 years training to become a fully fledged bard.
To complete his training, Bryan must pass his final test: a year-long work placement in a tiny fishing village in the north called Oi, that has not been able to afford a town bard for 20 years. Bryan thinks it will be a laid back vacation chugging mead on the beach and laying with peasant daughters. Little does he know how wrong he is.
Here's some of the characters Bryan meets in the town of Oi:
Servius of Sicilia-the sardonic town slave.
Fishbane and dolphin friend, Star Seal is the village druid. He doesn't swim, water just likes to be around him.
Aideen "The Mean" O'Riada, Star Seal's older daughter, captain of the town hurling team and a savage beast.
Rhiannon O'Riada, Star Seal's youngest daughter, and set to inherit the village ahead of older sister Aideen because she was born with 'selkie hands.'
If this sounds interesting to you you can read the first two chapters FOR FREE online HERE.
I am intensely passionate about these characters and telling their story.
Why so blue?
The ancient Gaels and Celts loved covering themselves in blue paint made from the woad plant.
If you are going to get this this story the way it should be seen, it needs to be printed in woad-coloured ink. I have been printing my comics for the past few years using a risograph machine. Riso-printing gives a unique effect and feel halfway between old offset printing and screen printing. Oi! volume 1 will be printed in riso because I want each page of this book to look and feel like a vintage gig poster.
This all sounds super groovy. What do you need me for?
Though I have already completed the first two chapters of Oi, it has taken 18 months to accomplish. This is because I have only been able to work on the comic in my free time outside a full time job. I write, pencil, ink, shade and letter the comic all by myself. Each page takes an estimate 6-10 hours to complete, depending on the complexity. It is work that I love doing, but I need your support to fund the completion of this comic at something quicker than a snail's pace. If this campaign is successfully funded, I will be able to focus the next 4 months of my time entirely on completing the next three chapters of Oi! Volume One, and bring the rest of the story to you at a much faster rate. I will also be able to get it printed up for you using the gorgeous risographic process, and sent to you in manga-sized book that I guarantee will stand out from anything else on your shelf.
Additionally, I want to update some of the art in chapter one, which was drawn over a year and a half ago, to match my current style. Quite frankly, I've gotten better at drawing since it was made.
If you liked the first two chapters so far,and can't wait to see what happens next to Bryan, Servies, Rhiannon, Aideen and Star Seal, even the smallest donation from you will help to make this book happen.
Do I get some kind of reward for backing this project?
Here are some of the cool things you can get for backing this project:

Rock out with your harp out. You too will be able to inspire incidents of mass jigging with this amazing sonic device.
I WILL DRAW YOU AS A SLOTH (Available at the £9 pledge level)
My Backwards Burd friends and I have been drawing sloth portraits of visitors to comic conventions in the UK for over two years now. We've sold an estimated 700 sloth drawings to date, including two to Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones while they attended the London Film and Comic Con in 2013 . I have drawn a little girl dressed as Bane as a sloth and I have drawn slenderman cosplayers with Judge Dredd helmets as sloths, so you too can be drawn as any sloth you can imagine.

Risks and challenges
As one of the cofounders of Backwards Burd Comics (www.backwardsburd.com) I have years of experience putting out comics and getting them out in time to meet tight deadlines, as well as successfully selling them at conventions. I have sold 350 copies so far of Oi! #1 and #2 so I know there is a big audience for this book, I just have to be able to focus entirely on this project in order to get it out to you, the reader, as quickly as possible. If the kickstarter goal is met, I will be able to dedicate all of my time in to finishing the next 3 chapters of the self contained first arc, and give you the best story that I can possible make by January 15, and have the books and reward packages printed and shipped to you by early February 2015.
I have set a mid January deadline to have the print file PDF properly prepared, so that just in case there are any delays with the printer, I will still be able to get the book out as promised in early February 2015.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
