We've been successfully funded! Thanks for all the support! But, this project will likely cost ~$4500 to really get it looking good. I'm funding a lot of this out of my own pocket, but I'd rather not have to make compromises on the artistic elements that will really make this bike special. So we still need your money! We'd also love donations of fine dining accoutrements.
Inspired by some amazing kinetic sculptures that I've seen at Burning Man over the years, I decided it was time to build my own. I rounded up some hard working friends and we settled on the idea of a pedal-powered banquet table. Along the way it picked up the moniker A Moveable Feast. It's definitely going to be a hit on the playa this year. Our goal is to have it finished in time for the Pasadena Doo Dah Parade on April 28th.

Our concept is simple: Create an art bike that we can pedal around while enjoying a feast. The seats must be comfortable and the table wide enough that our legs and drivetrain can fit underneath. We've got a lot of details to hammer out, but we're making some great progress. We'll decorate the table with the finest china, ornate chafing dishes, and goblets of wine, and we'll dine in style. A meal upon the Moveable Feast will never be mundane.

Building an art bike isn't cheap. The wheels alone require hundreds of dollars of components. There will be bearings, gears, drive components, brakes, seats, etc. We'll need lots of linear feet of steel tubing to construct the frame. We'll be running around salvaging as much as we can to simplify construction and keep costs low. But, I imagine that this vehicle will cost $4.5k once it's completed. I'm willing to front much of that money out of my own pocket, but I'm going to need some help from you guys.
I apologize if you're far away and won't be able to take a ride. I'll be blogging our progress at http://danielbusby.com/kinetic-sculpture/ so you can at least vicariously live our endeavors. If you want to help build, please let me know! If you have some things that you can donate for the table top, we're always looking for cheap antiques. We need candelabras, plates, serving dishes, table cloths, goblets, wine glasses, silverware, etc. If it's fancy and belongs on an ornate banquet table, we need it.
Thanks for checking the project out! Our team is very eager to share this with everyone! I simply can't wait for that first meal on the town.
Here are some photos from our first actual work day:

And our first proto-wheel! We just need to finish crimping the spokes.
