Vi gör en granskande dokumentär om Copyswede och lagen om privatkopieringsersättning.
Help us make a difference. We have spent the last six months doing research for a documentary about the Swedish organisation Copyswede and the work they claim to be behind. If you bought a USB-drive, hard-drive, DVD, CD, computer, iPhone or another device that can be used in private copying, you are directly affected, whether you like it or not. We would like this to change and a step in that direction is to make a documentary to get the word out.
Anonymous Support. We understand that there are people and companies who would like to be anonymous when supporting campaigns and projects. For those of you who want to stay anonymous, just choose any account name that’s not identifiable when backing the project.
Contribute. If you would like to contribute to this documentary with help or maybe you have a particular skill you think we need, please send us an email.
- We will also look for music to be featured in the documentary so if you are an musician and think your music would work in the documentary, please let us know.
For any questions regarding questions about the documentary or the campaign, please send us an email and we will get back to you.

Making a documentary is not an easy feat and to get it funded is difficult. On top of that, making a documentary about a strong private organisation makes it even harder. That is why we are looking to Kickstarter to find the support from the people and companies that have the same questions as us. The goal is to be able to finance the documentary and have a complete film during winter this year.
A list of successful documentaries on Kickstarter:
Just as these examples above show, we see Kickstarter as a great way of getting a strong community and ideas to come forward, that is why we invite everyone with ideas, questions or information about Copyswede or the private copying laws to contact us.
A successful campaign here would be a great step towards getting the word out about an outdated and fuzzy law.
We have nothing against copyright...
We want to investigate and discuss the organisation Copyswede and see how it affect, improves or directly work against the copyright laws, electronics industry, wholesalers and retailers, not to forget the consumer and the creatives.
We will interview representatives from every part of the industry to get serious and clear answers on our questions regarding the private copying laws and the copyright issues. Not only will we interview the people behind Copyswede but we will also talk with the beneficiaries and see what they think. What is unclear and what do they want to be changed?
In addition to the interviews, we will do our best to find answers to the more important questions that many of us have.
A selection of the questions we have:
- Who are the legislators who make it possible for a private organisation to unilaterally decide on the charging of what we buy?
- What advantages does the current system have and what are the alternatives? Is it time for a revision and modernization of an outdated law, or is today's solution still the most suitable?
- What responsibility does Copyswede have for providing information to the copyright owners and the general public and do they take their responsibilities?
- What are the plans for the law on private copying fees? What can we do to simplify, improve or change the law?
- What is Copyswede's reason behind their lawsuits, is it scare tactics or have they had a conversation with the companies prior to the lawsuits?
Be a part of something worthwhile and be updated.
This is not a crowdfunding about fun or cool things like dinosaurs or lasers, you can find that here. So we completely understand if this is not something you would regularly support on Kickstarter. We can offer you something else, a project that will make a difference or a chance to change something, not that Kung Fury didn't made a difference or changed anything but you get the point.
The organisation Copyswede is one of the copyright industry's least-known entities. Despite this, Copyswede charges the copyright fees that most consumers in Sweden comes in direct contact with. Our goal is to create a conversation about the private copying laws, the fees and allow everyone to speak.
We believe that in the long run, speaking up will help the creative community, copyright holders, lawmakers and the electronic industry in Sweden and abroad.
This documentary will be an opportunity for Copyswede to improve their communication with consumers and the industry so we encourage them to support us as well. With our continuous updates we will put light on the issues and hopefully, we can present solutions as well, with or without Copyswede.
The documentary will be partially funded with our own money but we need your help to be able to get a reasonable budget. We are conducting this crowdfunding in order to get the amount possible to produce a quality documentary.
If the crowdfunding is a success, the money will be used solely for the documentary. This includes getting the right people aboard the project, production costs and equipment rentals.
In the budget we have taken to account an overhead to make sure that none of the expenses comes as a surprise.
I hope you will support us in this project. Everything is set and ready for us to start, we have a strong support but we need all help we can get.
Remember, a small amount is also a statement. Everything helps and everything is greatly appreciated. Without you, there will be no change.
Risks and challenges
Making a documentary can be a hard and time consuming process. We are fully aware of problems that can and will occur. Our experience is that with a clear budget, timetable and overhead, a lot can be accomplished in time and without any major problems.
With our experience we will limit potential problems to a minimum and take necessary steps in order to secure some of the most common issues.
1. Raid and double hard drives for all information, interviews and edits made.
2. We will only work with experienced team members.
3. An overhead has been applied to all costs in the budget.
4. Planning all steps of the process.
A successful Kickstarter campaign will make a huge difference for the debate around the private copying law in Sweden and will raise awareness about Copyswede. The more supporters we get, the stronger the message will be to the community and lawmakers in Sweden, Scandinavia and Europe.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
