Hi, my name's Daniel Tidwell. I posted my first guitar version of a video game theme on YouTube over 13 years ago and I absolutely fell in love with recording music. Whether it's recreating video game themes I love from my childhood or writing original music, nothing matches the thrill of putting the finishing touches on a new song.
But one of my biggest issues working on music is second guessing myself. When it comes to arrangement, tracking or the mix I have commitment issues and it results in delayed releases, diminishing returns and wasted time in rabbit holes.
So I'm doing something drastic to snap out of it. I will record and release a new song every single week for the next year. All brand new, never previously released.
There will be a rotation of 4 different types of weeks:
Week 1: Video Game Themes
Week 2: Top 40/Popular Music (Any Time Period/Any Genre)
Week 3: Movie/TV Themes
Week 4: Free Week (Anything, Cover or Original, My Choice)
- New songs will be first released to backers every Tuesday, before being publicly available.
- I'm open to requests, but ultimately I'll be choosing the songs each week.
- I plan on making videos most weeks, but if there's no time it will be audio only.
I've been doing this stuff for over 13 years now, but I've never taken on something as ambitious or challenging as this project.
I'm extremely nervous and excited. One Year. 52 Songs. I hope you'll join me on the journey, and pray to the old gods and the new that I can maintain what's left of my sanity.
Thank you for being awesome and for making my musical journey what it has been so far. I love making music and I'm so grateful to you for making it possible.
P.S. If you're unfamiliar with my YouTube channel, here's a taste of some of the videos I've made through the years:
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge for me will be to get out of my own way and to trust my instincts. A strict deadline every week won't allow for time to be spent unwisely and will force me to commit with my initial gut instincts on arrangements/takes/tones/etc. Which will be uncomfortable at first, but I think ultimately I'll be better for it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
