Frankie, the cross-dressing grifter is back along with those bawdy burlesque girls--Poppy, Mai and Rose as they'll discover what friendship and trust really means to one another. The stakes get higher as they close in on finding Rouletta's murderer while in the midst of an all out turf war between the crime syndicates in San Francisco’s seedy underworld backstreets during the Prohibition Era.
I was just on Spoiler Country Podcast talking about The Tommy Gun Dolls Vol. 2, listen here:
In 2017, The Tommy Gun Dolls graphic novel was the Grand Prize Recipient of Pulsar Entertainment's Comic Creator Contest
"Dolls is the only entrant that left me literally craving to read more. It is well-researched and smartly dialogued with almost no anachronisms to bounce me out of the story. The narrative is ambitious and mature. It feels like the work of a professional, experienced writer at the peak of his powers-- someone who is already established and has been around. It is totally pro work. The same thing goes for the artwork-- clear, solid expositional skills, sophisticated visual storytelling that's clever and effective without ever becoming smart-ass or obscure. The period work is nearly perfect-- very authentic and well-researched. Daniel Cooney is clearly a student of history and not afraid to use reference."

"Cooney's 1920s riveting noir, The Tommy Gun Dolls sizzles and pops!!" -Michele Brittany
Inspired by a true story of San Francisco’s dark underworld, a group of Prohibition Era burlesque dancers pursue their friend’s murder by posing as masked bandits and knocking over the Mob’s speakeasies. The Tommy Gun Dolls is a sordid tale told in the classic Noir tradition, with roots in San Francisco’s historic Nob Hill Mansions of society’s elite class down to the seedy gang-filled streets of Chinatown, through the Tenderloin and neighboring North Beach.
Taking visual inspiration from illustrators such as Russell Patterson, Ethel Hays and Faith Burrows, who popularized the look and lifestyle of the 1920s flapper, and the writings of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Dashiell Hammett, I've crafted a tale of mystery, suspense and burlesque in fog city.
The inspiration for the story's main character, Frankie Broadstreet, a grifter who rides a Penny Farthing bicycle and has a penchant for wearing men's clothes, stems from a fusion of two real life people: Jeanne/Jean Bonnet (1841-1876), a trans man who founded one of California’s strangest criminal gangs composed entirely of women during the gold rush era; and Louise Brooks, an American dancer and actress, best known for popularizing the bobbed haircut and starred in the German feature film, Pandora’s Box.

Risks and challenges
I had a successful campaign a couple of years ago for Volume One of The Tommy Gun Dolls graphic novel. Aside from some health issues that slowed my progress considerably on the first book (see previous updates) I've been in great health since last fall and look forward to completing volume two and eager to share it with you. I can't thank everyone enough for supporting my work before on Kickstarter. You are directly responsible for helping me produce such a beautiful book and have the set the bar high for the same quality of published work in the forthcoming edition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
