Iquail Shaheed's Black Swan, set to the music of artist/activist Nina Simone (1933-2003), is a 75-minute dance-theater work that explores the experience of the black ballerina as a window into issues of race, identity, and isolation, incorporating elements of performance art to investigate these psychological tensions.

Artistic Director Iquail Shaheed conceived of Black Swan in 2012 sensing a need to comment on the effects of marginalization. Nearly three year later, the subject and timing of this production couldn't have been more fortuitous. Social unrest of protesters around the world have confirmed the need for this work of art. Help us lend our voice to be "pro-everybody" without being "anti-anybody".
