What's it all about
The Legend of Buc Buccaneer started out as an idea formulated by two lifelong friends, Dan Bodenstein, and Ron Robrahn. The original plan had Buc as a character in a comic book, but over several years, the idea expanded into a full-fledged adventure novel. The pair strove to use techniques derived from companies like Disney, and Dreamworks, to develop their own method of storytelling. The result is a fast-paced adventure, full of interesting characters, colorful banter, and of course ... pirates!
The character of Buc Buccaneer started out as a simple swashbuckler, a single member in a team of heroes. Dan started writing for the character Ron designed and realized the character's great potential. He discussed the idea with Ron, and they decided to move away from the comic book idea to a more challenging and ambitious novel. While Dan worked on some story concept ideas, Ron began early sketches of the characters.
The story takes an average rooster with a thirst for adventure and tosses him into the world of piracy. His present mixes with his past, and he is driven to find answers to who he really is. Fascinated by the folklore and legends of the notorious pirate, Captain Lucky Longfeather, Buc hatches a plan. Together with his First Mate, Mister Ayg, and his burly quartermaster Chumlee. Buc sets out to find a crew to undertake a quest to solve a long-standing mystery of the Caribbean.
Colorful characters, comical dialog, and a few bird puns make this story an enjoyable read for children of all ages. Primarily targeted toward young-adult readers, the book is a fast-paced adventure that makes for a great bedtime story as well.
The goal of any author is to get their book published. We are currently in the stages of final editing of our book. The next step is to get it printed. This is where we need your assistance. Through the generosity of pledges, we hope to raise enough money to print a large set of first run copies. We also are looking to hire a publicist to assist us in getting the word out, and helping us reach a wider audience. Who knows, maybe one of the animation studios will want to pick this up as a feature film or TV series? One can only dream.
Our goal is set to a modest $2500.00. We feel this will allow us to achieve what we need to do, and give us a leg up on moving forward with our project.

Pledges and Rewards
We thought long and hard about pledges and rewards (Swag) for our book. Primarily because we wanted to do something for our supporters, but we also wanted to maximize what we can do with the funds raised. Everyone who's pledge included a book will get copy signed by both of us. You will also receive a copy of the book in e-book format.
Here are some if the items we have:
- A download link to the Music of Buc Buccaneer.
- A "Longfeather" charm necklace.
- Paper coasters from the The Wooden Stork, a tavern featured in the book.
- A variety of stickers.
- Skull and cross feather magnets.
- Wooden Stork Tavern Magnets
- Mister Ayg Magnet.
- Pirate coins (These are metal, non-toxic, coins, not plastic party-style coins)
In their youth, Ron and Dan were also musicians. Music was one of the things that brought them together. From the start of the project, they had always wanted to have music composed specifically for the book. They ended up with a soundtrack with nine tracks, including a pirate shanty written by Dan titled, "A Pirate So Lucky." Below is the main theme for our hero titled "As the Crow Flies" composed by a talented young artist, Giovanni Tabor. Giovanni composed all the music for our Soundtrack (except the Shanty) As a reward, all pledges will have access to download the entire soundtrack once it is complete.
Encouraging children to read has been a goal for Dan and Ron. Instead of stretch goals, they have decided to donate books. For every $100.00 pledged, they will donate a book to the Little Free Library. The Little Free Library is a non-profit organization that provides free books to people through the use of local "little libraries." They will reach out to supporters to have them locate a Little Free Library in their area. (You can use this map to see where there is one in your area.)
Additionally, all pledges of $25 or more receive both the ebook and physical book formats. You will have the option to donate your physical copy once the campaign ends. (You do not have to participate in this option. Donating is an option for people who want to support us but only need the e-book version.) You can also choose to donate it to a local Little Free Library in your area after you read it.
The Little Free Library has over 75,000 locations and was started by Todd H. Bol, who recently passed away on October 18, 2018. Its system is based on "Take a Book, Leave a Book" to encourage kids to read.
