If you help put in new seats you'll...SAVE OUR BUTTS!!!
Hi, my name is Daniel Collings and I am the proud manager of University Mall Theatres - home of "The Best Popcorn in the Known Universe!" I need your help putting new seats in my wonderful little theatre. First, let me tell you how it all began…
About 23 years ago, my boss Mark was driving past this abandoned movie theatre, and he said to his wife:
“We should turn this place into a theatre folks can afford to take their kids to!"
“You’re crazy!” she says to him.
So he calls everybody he knows, and he says:
“Hey, wanna take a gamble on a crazy guy’s dream?”
And they all said: “Yes!”
For twenty-three years now, this theatre’s been serving our community with first rate movies at unbelievably low prices. Due to the economics of operating a second run theatre, we have never had the money to buy new seats. As a result, the ones we’re sitting in are falling apart - poking us in the butt while we watch the movies. So, please…
“Save our butts!”
Now, new movie theatre seats are not cheap. They cost about two hundred bucks apiece - and we need five hundred of ’um - that’s a hundred thousand dollars! I know that’s a lot a dough, and we wouldn’t ask - if we didn’t have to! Ordinarily - we’d borrow the money from the bank… but just last year we had to buy new projectors. We borrowed as much money as the bank would lend us and bought brand new digital projectors - all without raising our incredibly low prices!!!
Then - just when we were signing the papers for the loan - our entire mall started changing! The owners had decided that they wanted to rebuild the shopping center. Things started popping up to the left of our theatre - and things started popping up to the right of our theatre! For an whole year the construction guys have been working like crazy to make this happen. The only problem is, with all of this construction, our theatre’s become a little hard to find!
For over two decades we’ve been serving our community. And now we need y’all’s help! We don’t want anyone to put themselves out for this. But, hey, if you’ve got a million bucks - go ahead and grab the top prize. Hit that hammer so hard - you ring the bell on the top! If you don’t have a whole lot a money - but ya love us, an ya want to let us know - then send us a dollar! Because everybody who gives, no matter how much, gets their name up on the big screen before every movie for an entire year!
We have been proud to serve you for the last twenty-three years. We’d love to make the next twenty-three even better!!! But…we need your help! So, please check out the wonderful prizes on the side of your screen and pick the one that’s just right for you! And God bless America!!!
Risks and challenges
The floor beneath the seats has taken quite a beating over the years. We are going to have to repair it before putting in such wonderful seats. Although this will cause each of our auditoriums to close for a day - it is absolutely necessary for the perfect transformation. If by any miracle we raise more than a hundred grand we will turn this place into a palace for y'all.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
