Directed by Damien LeVeck | Written by Aaron Horwitz
The Cleansing Hour is a unique, terrifying, and fun demon-possession film that is a fresh spin on the exorcism genre. This short film is a proof of concept for a feature-length version, similar to the path of “Whiplash,” “Boogie Nights” and "Sling Blade” which all began as shorts.
In Hollywood, there are two paths to making a feature film – selling a script to a studio that will hire new writers, actors and directors to create the movie THEY want to make, OR hiring your own writers, actors and crew, raising money and creating the movie that YOU want to make.
By bringing our vision for The Cleansing Hour short to life apart from studios, we can present them the finished product, proving that our idea is worth making into a feature film.

A Film People Want To See
Within only one day of posting our teaser trailer on Kickstarter, we have garnered the attention of two major production companies interested in making a feature film, a acquired a rapidly-growing and active social media following, and A-list, Hollywood writers and producers of big-budget franchise films have contributed to our campaign.
This proves that 1) Our gamble of raising the money to make this short film is paying off with attention from well-known Hollywood players; and 2) Viewers are aching to see a movie with our concept and cast!
That’s why we need you – help us make The Cleansing Hour short film so we can sell to Hollywood the feature film you’ll one day see in theaters.
The Cleansing Hour is the world’s first and only exorcism webcast. Streamed live each week in front of an audience of millions. Led by the charismatic Father Lance Derrickson (Sam Jaeger), the show’s grippingly terrifying exorcisms have made Lance an international phenomenon and a religious hero.
The catch? Each exorcism is elaborately staged. Father Lance is really nothing more than a [very convincing] actor, and the Wizard behind the curtain running this impressive forgery is his best friend, Drew. 214 “exorcisms” have been performed to date, and 214 “victims” have been miraculously saved.
Until today, when the actress (Heather Morris) Lance and Drew bring in turns out to actually be possessed!
Now, the two frauds will be forced to reckon with their online charade– LIVE in front of more than 20 million viewers. Oh, and they might just be unsuspecting pawns in a much greater demonic conspiracy…
The Cleansing Hour is about two regular guys who’ve built their success on a lie–and they’re about to receive their comeuppance. Is it morally wrong to profit from passing off an online exorcism as real? What about the millions around the world who tune in online to watch? How is their addictive use of their phones, tablets, and computers affecting those around them? Are we, the audience, dangerously obsessed with technology to the point where it’s damaging our lives?
Why We Need YouFilmmaking is EXPENSIVE. Especially when you’re undertaking an ambitious project like The Cleansing Hour, which will have intricate production design, professional film cameras, complex special effects, prosthetic makeup, and stunning visual effects. I am putting every extra penny I have toward THE CLEANSING HOUR. Even then, I won’t come close to what we need to start production.
How We’ll Spend the Money
There’s a lot that goes into finishing a movie after you’ve shot it. That includes visual effects (of which we have many), sound design, a score (composer), color-correction, title design, and credits.
About the Filmmaker
Damien came from humble beginnings, growing up in the small town of Mattoon, IL and eventually moving to Los Angeles to attend film school at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. At 12 years old, with a strong desire to make a film project for others to enjoy, Damien went door to door asking friends, neighbors, and local businesses to pitch in to help fund his film projects. He is grateful that his hometown believed in him then and through this Kickstarter project, he’s asking you to believe in him now.
For the last ten years, Damien LeVeck has built a steady resume of editing and producing credits for his work on feature films and TV shows that were seen on ABC Family, Netflix, Fox, VH1, SyFy, MTV, TBS, OWN, TruTV and Oxygen. He has enjoyed crafting content of all kinds into meaningful stories for viewers to enjoy and is excited to segue his career into directing full time.
The Cleansing Hour is going to be a high-quality, thrilling short film that will leave the audience wanting more and entice production companies into green-lighting a feature. By donating to this project you’re not only helping to make a great film but you are also helping to shape the careers of everyone directly involved with the movie.
How Does Kickstarter Work?
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding website that allows people to pledge money to films, products, and causes that are meaningful to them. In exchange, project backers receive a reward or “perk” for their participation once the funding goal is met.
However, if the funding goal is not met, the project receives NOTHING & your credit card is not charged.
We literally cannot make THE CLEANSING HOUR without you. Thank you for your generous support!
Risks and challenges
The $30,000 we’re trying to raise is the bare minimum we need to bring THE CLEANSING HOUR to life.
While we have done our best to create a budget that accurately reflects the costs we’ll incur, but surprises expenses along the way are inevitable.
In all honestly, the more funding we get for the film, the easier it will be for us to avoid these surprises. We’ll have the ability to give our department heads a bigger budget, create higher quality sets and visual effects, and an overall better film.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
