Landmarks is the first full expansion of the Villages of Valeria game designed by Rick Holzgrafe and Isaias Vallejo. The overview video shown below is from Rahdo Runs Through and covers the original Villages of Valeria game. It does not include any of the Landmarks content, but it's a great way to get to know the original game if it's new to you.
So, what does Landmarks bring to Villages of Valeria? The primary new mechanic is a new follow opportunity called "Build A Landmark".
We heard from a lot of players, and the mechanic they like the most is being able to follow the active player's lead action. Rick and Isaias decided to amp up this mechanic by giving you another option besides just following the lead action.
With Landmarks, if you cannot or choose not to follow the lead action, you can build a landmark as your follow action. You simply discard a specific card from your hand and, based on the resource icon at the bottom of the Building card, you take a certain landmark token and place it on your castle card. For example, discard a Building card with a Food resource at the bottom to establish a Silo as a Landmark in your village.
Landmark tokens do not count as Buildings, but at the end of the game, the player with the most of each type of Landmark will earn victory points! For each set of all five different Landmarks you've collected, you'll gain even more victory points.
The Landmarks expansion also comes with new Adventurer cards that trigger on the Landmarks you've collected, new Building cards to grow your village with cool new powers, and all-new Architect cards to award hidden end-game bonus points!
Increase your Landmark holdings, leverage the new Buildings, attract the new Adventurers, and show your rivals what a proper village looks like!
Download the PNP files linked farther down this page to read the rules for all of the details.
A Note About Solo Play: The Villages of Valeria base game supports solo play and the new Landmarks expansion contains 49 cards that will meld with the base game and support solo play (assuming all the stretch goals are unlocked). However, the new "Landmarks" mechanic itself does not support solo play. It requires at least two players because much of the mechanic depends upon the brinksmanship of players trying to outmaneuver each other in the acquisition and mix of landmark tokens.
The Deluxe custom tokens you receive with your pledged rewards will not be included in the retail version of the Landmarks expansion. That version will have wood block tokens. We may make the custom tokens available as a separate purchase via the BoardGameGeek Store after Landmarks has been released in 2019.
In 2016, we offered Villages of Valeria in a Deluxe Box that could hold everything made at that time, even with sleeved cards. In 2018, our expansion ideas outgrew the Deluxe Box, so we're now offering the Landmarks expansion with a VOV Big Box, especially for card sleevers.
The VOV Big Box has 206mm of card storage, that's 1.75x the capacity of the Deluxe Box, and it features 8 token wells that should accommodate event the fussiest organizers.
The playmat shown above can be added to any pledge level of $19 or above by increasing your total pledge by $25.
The Deluxe Pack above can be added to any pledge level of $19 or above by increasing your total pledge by $16. If you already have the Villages of Valeria Deluxe or are pledging here for the Deluxe Catch Up, you do not have to add this on as it's already in your box.
The reviews and videos shown below are for the original Villages of Valeria game. They do not include any of the Landmarks expansion components.
The PDF file linked in the graphic below is FREE to download and requires the base Villages of Valeria game to play. The file contains the cards we used while developing the Landmarks expansion and do not include final art. In this PNP file, the 35 landmark tokens are replaced with 35 landmark cards for your convenience.
Before you pledge, please take a look at this flowchart to help you determine which pledge level is best for you.
Backer rewards will ship from hubs in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia to reduce the likelihood of backers having to pay VAT and import duties to receive their packages.
Early-ship copies of VOV Standard and VOV Deluxe from the Catch Up pledge levels WILL be shipped from the USA warehouse. It is possible that international backers could incur additional charges to receive these packages. To avoid this risk, we recommend that you buy the Villages of Valeria base game at your local game store wherever possible. It is widely available and you can get the Bonus Pack from the BGG store.
Please see Update #2 for details on how and when the Deluxe Pack Add On will be shipped.

We're based in Seattle, Washington and like to promote the growth of game design in the Pacific Northwest. To this end, we created a playtesting event network called PlaytestNW to help local designers meet each other and engage with playtesters at regularly occurring Meetup events. Our hope is that we're helping designers build better games.
Risks and challenges
Daily Magic Games is committed to delivering quality products on time. We realize that the publication of a board game can be complicated and, no matter how experienced the project creators and mangers are, some problems may occur. In an effort to reduce the likelihood of delays and mistakes, we have taken several steps to prepare for success:
1. This game project, as well as the Kickstarter campaign itself, are in the hands of two well-seasoned professionals. David MacKenzie has been running Kickstarter projects since 2010 and Isaias Vallejo comes from a digital games background as production and studio director at Big Fish Games.
2. We are dedicated to backer communication and feedback. Throughout every campaign, we are as transparent about the process and as open to feedback as possible without jeopardizing production and delivery timelines.
3. We have done significant pre-production. All the art and graphic design files for Villages of Valeria: Landmarks are completed with the exception of the stretch goals content.
4. We have our manufacturer lined up and ready to begin the pre-press process as soon as the the files are delivered. We hope that everything goes as planned, but if something falls through the cracks, we are ready and willing to employ every tool at our disposal to get the project back on track and running smoothly.
