Skeleton Flower, by Degenerate Art Ensemble, is an immersive stage performance that combines rich cinematic imagery, live music and song, visceral solo dance and storytelling ritual.
THANKS TO YOU WE ARE ALMOST THERE!
In 2017 with the support of our incredible supporters we were able to rise to create the most exciting video imagery we have ever made. We showed it together with the performance in a work-in-progress at the Spotlight USA Festival in Bulgaria in March of 2018 and have spent the last year working towards total integration of image, movement and stage. Over 2018 we dove deep and created a stage design that will do just that.
HELP US TAKE THE FINAL STEP!
The piece is scheduled for a completed world premiere at the Erickson Theater in Seattle on February 13-16, followed by a run in Portland, Oregon and then will move on to tour the country. We are asking for your support to build the moving projection screens, and support a one week residency at the theater at which we will assemble and fine tune all of the technical elements.
ABOUT SKELETON FLOWER
Skeleton Flower is a fantastical, semi-autobiographical telling of a creative person’s struggle with identity, depression and the awakening of personal power where healing and transformation are fueled by the secret medicine of fairy tales. In each of these tales, bold female protagonists overcome great opposition for following their creative desires. Skeleton Flower exists in a realm where art, technology and ritual meet, using dance and live music with a rich layer of projected video that provides a glimpse into unseen dimensions.
A DEDICATED COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS
More than 40 tireless crafters spend last winter painting, sewing and sculpting the costumes and scenic elements that filled Skeleton Flower's video pieces. In addition to creating video for projection, we also shot footage for a virtual reality film, which is currently in post production.
WHAT WE NEED
The video pieces exceeded all of our expectations, and now our job is to integrate them with precision into a multi-screen stage production. For this goal we will build a series of movable projection screens and spend a week in the theater carefully fine tuning the interaction between the live performance, lighting and projection. We are asking your help to cover the materials and labor for building the screens and screen tracks as well as renting the theater for a week of testing and fine tuning.
VIRTUAL REALITY AND CD RELEASE!!!!
At the premiere of the Skeleton Flower live performance, a Virtual Reality film and a music album will also be released. The support of our fans and community have made all of these enormous feats possible. We thank you so much for getting us here to this incredible moment, and ask for your help getting us over the finish line.
For a $100 donation you will receive Degenerate Art Ensemble's first art book designed by John Hubbard featuring photographs by Bruce Tom, Steven Miller, Kamala Kingsley and Joe Iano.
And this is the amazing $250 reward!! It is a piece of the actual backdrop from the video production and a book of production sketches by Haruko Crow Nishimura.
Risks and challenges
