Have a question?
Well I tried folks. Ken is not talking about the premiere at all. No invitations to the premiere have been sent out. None of the actors to my knowledge are going to be at the premiere (no fault of their own - mostly due to failure on d20 Ent's part to make proper arrangements). Ep2 and Ep3 were in very rough shape last time I saw them. No idea what's going on since Ken refuses to even give me answers. And for asking publicly his response booting me from the group and deleting my questions and those of other backers. Guess we're all going to show up at GenCon and be surprised.
...and if backers would like a further indication of where this kickstarter project is headed, Ken Whitman just ejected Jolly Blackburn from the KoDT LAS Facebook page and blocked him so that he can't be added back.
For further update/record, Ken Whitman has now blocked Jolly Blackburn, and Barbara Blackburn, from the KODT Live-Action Series facebook.
This is presumably in retaliation for them also being "Trolls" in Mr. Whitman's insane mind, asking here and on FB for answers as to the status of backers' Tickets, missing merchandise, any sign of the episodes that were due, anything....
He is now blocking the very creators and owners of the Knights of the Dinner Table franchise from this project.
Whitman, you've reached a new low, even for a dirtbag like yourself. As said before, you've made all these choices, and the end this has on your entire career and more is all you.
Apparently anyone who complains about Mr. Whitman's lies and despicable business practices are trolls inventing problems where they don't exist, according to Mr. Whitman...
I'd laugh about the parts about "problems that don't exist", (because they clearly do), or "stifle dialogue", (because there is no dialogue just lies from Ken Whitman since minute one), but at this point, he's just... kinda pathetic and sad.
From Ken Whitman's facebook, 7/26/15, 3:30 PM:
"A Concern Troll --- A person who posts on a blog thread, in the guise of "concern," to disrupt dialogue or undermine morale by pointing out that posters and/or the site may be getting themselves in trouble, usually with an authority or power. They point out problems that don't really exist. The intent is to derail, stifle, control, the dialogue. It is viewed as insincere and condescending."
Whitman, you've been given your chances. As said when you mocked backers before, after stealing our money, and lying to us...
This is going to end very badly for you, and your career, both.
Prediction: Ken will not show up at Gen Con with this project, or show up at all. Excuses for not showing up will be manifold and demonstrably untrue. None of these excuses will include any admission of personal accountability or truth, like "Look, I most of your money on my personal living expenses and then ran out. I tried to shore up my bank account by running multiple kick starters so I could take money from one to finish the other, but I spent all that money on myself too."
Summoning Ken Whitman.
Ken people are already on the road for GenCon and they never received their tickets on July 16th as promised. Folks are understandably pissed/concerned. The event is listed in GenCon's catalog and is sold out - how are the folks who secured backer tickets (tickets they don't have in hand) going to get in?
More importantly they are supposed to have front row seats (first two rows). Is anyone going to be there to secure those seats and save them for backers? A little communication please.
I've messaged you numerous times with no response on this and no explanation as to why the invitations haven't been emailed out (other than you saying on Monday you were 'sorting it out').
One more question - the after party? Do folks just show up or do they need a ticket to be there? Any sort of info/details at all would be very useful at this point.
You know I really don't understand why you can't just post a few details/info. You've got a lot of stressed/concerned backers who paid good money for seats who aren't sure if they are going to be able to get in without a hassle.
I hope someone at the premiere is recording whatever happens at the start time. Then posts a link to it here.
Also, just for the record, I got this message on Facebook from Ken on 5/20: "Hey James i need to send you out a KODT book. Whats your address"
I replied the next day, asking if it was from the contest he had run on Facebook about posting a picture and tagging Jolly. He replied that day: "ok good sir - get it out tomorrow!"
6/4, I sent j=him this message: Hi Ken, I was just wondering if the book had shipped yet, as I haven't received it yet. Thanks!"
7/12, I sent this message: "Hi Ken, Any update on the book? I still have not gotten it yet."
Today: Still no responses to either message.
I've been on th road since 10 July (given I'm coming from Australia and all). No email, couldn't print tickets anyway now.
I expect to be turned away.
We will know in six days. He hasn't answered any messages from me since Monday so I'm pretty much in the dark here (as usual).
Leaving for GenCon in 3 days and still no e-mail with the promised tickets so I can print them out before I go. Maybe we can play a game of HackMaster with the 150+ of us there if Ken is a no show. That's gotta be some kind of record, yeah?
...and it's July 24, and the episodes were not available to backers as promised. Another lie, another false promise made. It would be foolish to expect Ken to show at Gen Con for the premiere at this point. The only real drama is what excuse he will use and who he will blame for his own failings.
I'm willing to wager that Ken Whitman will stay away from Gencon this year. Any takers? ;)
At least, on the positive side, we have the footage that was completed professionally, that first episode, and the raw pieces of the other two. Perhaps, given time and an a respectable person, that can be made into something workable someday, here's hoping something good might one day come out of all this!
Nothing here either. More broken lies from the Prince himself, Ken Whitman. The man's pretty low on the scale of human trash. He'll get what's coming to him, soon enough. It's not your fault, Jolly. He took advantage of all of us, our money, your characters, and several other fandoms across the industry, judging from the credit reversals & fraud charges being discussed on his other projects. Deepest sympathies for everything you've gone through alongside us. Ken Whitman will regret what he's done.
I've heard nothing from Ken here - not even a courtesy opportunity to see the 'final' episodes to give feedback. shrugs.
I wouldn't put money on it. Still nothing here, BTW.
"July 23: All there episodes are available on line for Backers to view and download"
Still a few more hours left in the day. Hoping the radio silence is due to being busy completing the edits and that we'll have episodes to watch this weekend.
and sorry for all the typos on that last entry...
Ken it's really unfair that you haven't sent out those invitations to the premiere as promised. Especially when you squeezed extras money out of those backers who already pledged for the premiere (basically the paid twice). It's very late in the game. GenCon is in a week. Folks will be hitting the road soon and won't have access to email. You are adding to their frustrations and worries and for no reason. If you can post memes all night on Facebook why can't you take a few minutes and send out those invitations? And why can't you answer your email, messages or update folks here (or on your other five kickstarters which are piling up with complaints). WE get you blew through all the money. You're broke. You say you're struggling to raise more money to fulfill your obligations. That's great. But silence and refusing to just be honest and telling folks that is adding to the problem. You're leaving folks guessing and assuming the worse. A lot of people are betting you'll come down with an excuse a the last hour and not even show up for GenCon to face backers and present your 3 film projects. Or that you'll send a proxy. I have no idea. As you've said many times this is YOUR project not mine (or KenzerCo's). But it's our base and our IP you've been milking for money for over 18 months and now that backers have questions you have no time for them. NONE. You do a drive by 'update' with broken promises and dates every few months and that's about it. You told me the other day I was 'sabotaging' you by ruining our ability to 'raise money' on the internet by my 'insistent complaining'. Actually, I've been simply letting our readers know that they shouldn't be throwing good money after bad. I have no idea where all the money went. That's your business as you say. My 'complaining' if you ever bothered to read the comments here has been about your lack of communication. As in NO communication. Also the lying. Why tell backers you have shipped their books only to have them learn weeks later that you didn't? I just don't get the logic. Call me crazy but I think honest answers are always better than a lie. I look forward to seeing the three episodes at GenCon next week. (two of which we had here at KenzerCo has little or no opportunity to see, let alone provide creative feedback on as promised). I REALLY hope you show up Ken. It's going take a lot of courage. And I hope you come with some real answers - even if it's just to deliver some bad news. (product will be months late or whatever). I will never personally work with you again. I can handle someone who makes mistakes and owns up to them and makes an effort to improve. I can't work with someone who makes mistakes and then blames others for his failures.
Nope. I'm not expecting to ever get one at this rate.
So no invitations yet?
Here's hoping. Whitman's certainly had time for posting several Memes lately and some long online vague ramblings about negativity. Let's hope he has time left to right this mess by :
1. Review who purchased seating to the event, clear up his confusion, and e-mail them their seating tickets.
2. Finish up the films (not sure why he's posting them online, they were supposed to first be shown just to the premier people, but ok, I guess, if they're really done and ready by Thursday. I might hold off on watching them, as I think it's right the people who paid extra should see them first as planned).
3. Come back from GenCon and mail us all the DVD copies along with the long overdue books and mountains of other missing merchandise and products purchased as addons, he's lied about shipping so many times in past months.
Here's hoping he manages to turn his train wrecks around. He's got all his other five Kickstarters unhappy with him too, to put it nicely. They're pretty displeased right now. And two of them are videos he's also got to produce at Gencon alongside ours.
He might be better served working on getting his train wrecks back on some tracks than posting Memes on Facebook. Here's hoping...
TEN days to the KODTLAS premiere. According to Ken backers should be able to download it on the 23rd.
Jonathan Biedron, all the money from the kickstarter went to Ken Whitman - he was supposed to peel off the money for any Kenzer product he had offered for rewards (including KODT subs) and forward that money to us (along with the subscription info) so we could then process it. Sadly that apparently never happened. We are discussing in house currently what to do about this particular matter. If anyone else is in the same boat consideration subscriptions please contact me. We don't have access to d20 Entertainment's kickstarter info/backer info. I apologize this has dragged on for so long.
Hi all. My pledge included a one year subscription to the KODT magazine. I haven't received it yet. Has anyone started to get their subscription yet? Thanks.
Yikes... Oh lord... Now he's claiming he doesn't know who of us paid for what...
It's right in Kickstarter.
Each of us has a tier for our pledge, Kickstarter shows him his backers and what we all pledged for, as well as he has the results of the post-Kickstarter questionairre which specifically address not only what pledge tier we selected, but also our address and what add-ons we paid extra for.
Hoo boy. I'm not even sure there are even words for this latest excuse of his...
So....does this mean he has no idea who has paid for entry tickets? How are we supposed to be garrunteed tickets in the front 2 rows? Why make a post saying you're going to send out an email if you don't know who has paid?
I asked Ken why no emails yesterday. Got a response about it being 'confusing' as to who paid and for what paypal. (bangs head on desk).
Well, at least Whitman can't blame folks' missing invitations to the gencon premier on shipping confusions, or not being printed, or outright lies like he's used regarding our physical books for months.
E-mails certainly don't cost postage. Just a few minutes of time.
According to his facebook, he's been busy going to the gym and pumping up, taking selfies before Gencon. Bizarre.
Haven't received anything.
No email here yet either.
...as of Friday, June 17 10:00 AM EST, I have not received the invitation email.
Anybody get their invitations by email...?
According to Ken's update the other day invitations/tickets to the premiere should get emailed out today (fingers crossed).
"July 16: Invitation emailed out for GEN CON World premiere'
Agree 100%, Jolly. It looks like Whitman finally posted an actual update on the film itself (even if he addressed his lies, nor any of the missing things for any of us), and given his time constraints, it's better he focuses on that right now, his clock's ticking.
After that, all his unforgivable lies and missing products will all be addressed, one way or the other.
But for right now, since his gross mismanagement has somehow left him with almost no time left on the video, the most important part of the project itself, I'm hoping he stays focused on that and at least produces film footage worth all the money we all put into this. I really enjoyed episode 1, even though that's the only one that apparently was long ago finished by the music/video editing folks, so I'm still apprehensive about 2 & 3, but we're all hoping they're quality. After that, we can address all the mountains of missing products, and hopefully move on and away from this mess.
My understanding Turkish is money is tight/gone and Ken is struggling to replenish the coffers so he can complete fulfillments/take care of missing books. Focusing on the movie first so he can sell DVDs seems to be his best option for raising that money. At least that's my take on things. I'm only suggesting we get past the premiere when the film side of things is supposed to be finished and THEN see what his plan for is fulfilling the various projects. Course I'm keenly aware that backer patience is beyond strained that he's been silent on the subject - you and others have ever right to be vocal until these issues are addressed IMO.
Yea, he posted for that, but he still hasn't covered what he's going to do for those who haven't gotten the items that allegedly already shipped they were owed.
I gotta ask... Is Ken using RapidPOD?? Reading back on the old RPG.net I'm seeing he clearly hasn't changed his business practices since running that scam...
I agree with Jolly. This is what we like to see. While it's true, some things could have went better, I want to stay positive and give Ken a chance to make a great movie. I wasn't real worried about my stuff as It wasn't supposed to be shipped until August anyway, so I'm looking on the bright side. I'm looking forward to getting Bobs dice bag and the DVDs. The actors did a great job and the casting was spot on for their characters. HOODY HOO to everyone involved. We ALL made this happen.
Ken just posted an update on the Kickstarter page with real dates and benchmarks. Now this is what I like to see. I agree Carolyn, I prefer to stay positive. Looking forward to the premiere and hopeful it all pans out. Then we can focus on the other stuff and see how the new dates/goals an out.
There's a few simple things Ken could have done to make sure this project ran more smoothly.
1) don't ship things 'ahead' of schedule. You're supposed to be getting the quality of the film right. Spend your time editing and sending the footage through to Jolly and let him make sure it's right before you release it.
2) if you do decide to release things early (like the books) don't tell people you have shipped them if they haven't shipped.
3) if you're going to tell people you have shipped them, then put them in the post. It's simple.
4) don't send through really rough edits to Jolly the night before the release so he's having to show something with bad sound, wrong lines, etc.
If Ken had simply spent his time working on the film last year, it would have been done months ago. And he could instead be sorting out all the books etc now.
I continue to hope for the best, Jolly. There is still time for that to happen. I prefer to stay positive about it. At the same time, I needed to put it in writing what I thought about all this. We all deserve better than empty promises.
Still no softcover book here ever showed up either, as with the two below. While I hope everyone can stay civil during the premier of whatever Whitman cobbled together (I must sadly admit my hopes aren't too high right now for this walking joke of a scam artist to have done anything other than vacation & squander our money), after that, is anyone's guess. I'm guessing there's a lot of people as ticked off, if not more, than even me right now, who also don't like that he lied to us all...
Still no softcover book over here. I hope, if Ken does make it to Gencon, that someone punches him squarely in the nose. Or at the very least dozens of people take him to task for this reprehensible behaviour.
Nineteen days to the premier and as of today my hardcover still isn't here, nor the shirt, nor anything else.
NINETEEN DAYS TIL THE PREMIERE! Looking forward to mingling with backers and readers as well as those actors/crew who can make it (at least two of the actors have conflicts I'm told)
Ken is also promising delivery of the product in DVDs in August as well according to the last update. Hopefully he'll have more details at the Premiere when he presents his film project. Hopefully backers will have an opportunity to ask questions to him directly.
It's good to hear the rough-cut footage at least does exist, even if there's <> 3 weeks until deadline. Here's hoping for at least the videos to wind up being something worth both the value all the backers here put forth for into it, as well as your works which we all love.
We're certainly all very disgusted with Whitman's unforgivable lack of any care, professionalism, and lies at this point, but at least perhaps the cast's work can put a positive spin on something. It's so good to discover at least that footage exists.
(Incidentally, my book he last claimed shipped 6/17, never did arrive. Just to keep the ongoing record of the mess.)
While nothing sadly forgives Whitman's blunt repeat lies and disrespect to all of us over the never shipped, never even likely produced products, or all the downright awful things that have happened referenced below, he'd certainly better be providing some (truthful, non-lie) answers and tracking numbers soon, along with those videos.
And I don't blame you Turkish. And don't let me comment about ep3 be misconstrued. It's a shame that both ep2 and ep3 are in such raw condition this late in the game almost a year after they were filmed. I'm just happy I've seen SOMETHING at this point of them. But the fulfillments and lack of communication - that is STILL a major concern for us and a MAJOR disappointment. Something Ken still hasn't addressed or even fessed up to. I know backers will have a LOT of questions for him at the premiere. I hope he shows up with some good answers and details on what to expect going forward.
@Jolly Blackburn, Good to hear the production is coming along well enough, at least. For my part, though, I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the roughs of episode 2 yet. This whole things has gone rather sour for me.
@Carolyn Stogdill, I'm not one of those going to the premier, and didn't back for it. I can only imagine what that's going to be like, though I wish you well and hope it turns out to be an events worthy of the work it's based upon.
Thanks Carolyn. Your support humbled us when we saw you had back at the level you did. Sorry this has cured you so much stress/frustration. You're right - this was supposed to be a FUN project. The lack of communication and poor backer relations just created needless drama. Drama that could have been easily avoided and even fixed - at ANY time. By simply communicating with the backers from time to time with real updates and information. I hope everyone can put that drama aside for a spell at the premiere in a few weeks and just enjoy the cast and crew's work. I'm really proud of what they accomplished.
