SKIDDI is here to re-invent the way you carry your skis, with less effort and more comfort.
Hello, I'm Sergio, and I love skiing!
Just imagine yourself during a normal Sunday at a ski resort: why should you feel a sense of fatigue and frustration before the day on the snow has even began?
You might find yourself having to carry sport equipment from the parking lot or from the hotel, up to the lifts (don’t you??) transporting your skis (plus maybe your sons’ or wife’s) on shoulders.
That’s a quite tiring and dangerous operation, while also wearing ski-boots that are not the most comfortable shoes.
For this reason, I recognized the need for a new way of moving my skis simplifying every skiers' life.
Here comes SKIDDI: a small simple device easy to use, suitable for all ages, even for kids, that will make you save energy and feel more confident on the snow.
SKIDDI is a pocket-sized, Made in Italy, device that allows you, easily and fastly, to drag your skis as a trolley.
SKIDDI comes from a real need: to carry your skis in every situation, easily. You can use it whenever and wherever you want, and then bring it with you by storing it in your pocket.

Every time you carry your skis you have to deal with certain unpleasant situations:
- Physical fatigue (specially with cold muscles);
- Fall or slip on the ice, possibly hurting you or people around you;
- Difficulty in holding the equipment (in addition to the skis you also carry ski poles, bags or backpacks);
- Damage to people or things due to uncontrolled movements of the skis (given their considerable size).
SKIDDI facilitates your daily movements when you go skiing by:
- Lightening the load of the equipment;
- Reducing the size of the equipment;
- Lowering the center of gravity.
SKIDDI is very light (86 grammes, about 3 oz). Moreover it has been conceived to be stored into your pocket.
SKIDDI will be produced by injection moulding. It is made of three main parts:
1 - the body: the main part
2 - the covers: attached on each sided
3 - the caddy: to which two wheels are attached
SKIDDI is lighter than your phone and smaller than your wallet!

Any package will include your own SKIDDI, a useful packet-sized bag and a sticker as well.

SKIDDI IS A SOCIAL GOOD plus MADE IN ITALY
The final goal is indeed to develop a full Made in Italy production, which comes through home-made self-prototyping and grows into a social impact project.
I choose to produce SKIDDI involving a main company (the manufacturer) that employs physically and socially disadvantaged staff. Even though production costs will be relevant if compared to those coming from Far East, I do believe that our generation must try to make business in a more social responsible way.
That’s the reason why I’ve spent weeks in selecting the best supplying partner I could find, to take also advantage of highly qualified skills, representing the best of Italian entrepreneurship. A top-class luxury package producer will make the package in Italy as well. Packages will be shipped to our manufacturing partner where SKIDDI will be assembled and packaged.
Finally, I will be able to start reporting to our community of bakers, once the campaign will be funded, how SKIDDI will be generating social impact in qualitative and quantitative terms.

PLASE NOTE: The only process that will be not made in Italy, will be the shipping. In fact, in order to offer you “shipping anywhere included” pledges, I’d need to find out a feasible solution to make you save money. I’ve then selected a highly qualified and skilled foreigner forwarder that will be in charge with trackable shipping.
Sergio Pedolazzi: creator of SKIDDI and D-NAMIC head of product design projects.
Born in 1983, Sergio Pedolazzi began his activity as a "small maker" in his father's workroom, and immediately he showed a great attraction in technology and innovation. In 2012, thanks to his technical skills acquired during his studies, and thanks to his passion for skiing, conceived the idea of SKIDDI. The final prototype takes place in a couple of years, developed through an open-source 3D printer, which enables him to define the design of the product. In 2014, Sergio registered the patent for invention of SKIDDI and he is rewarded in the DesignWinMake.

For the last ten years D-NAMIC, the incubator where Sergio and Alessandro first met years ago, has been bringing passion, enthusiasm and huge effort to help creators and entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into business models first, and then into startup companies, accelerating their development, while taking part in all the risks arising.

Thanks to my technical background in civil engineering and familiarity with 3d modeling programs, I started working on the early rudimentary prototypes with a 3D printer at home, being able to reach a functional and aesthetically appealing solution.
For the past year I've been testing and designing and after four generations of prototypes I have finally reached the design that fully meets my demands.
Thanks to our manufacturing partner I was able to order a batch of new prototypes, 3D printed according to the 1:1 scale of the moulding tool design.
Then, we’ve been hard-testing those prototypes since last December and learnt a lot on how to improve SKIDDI to reach and bring to you the highest quality, functionality and design.
SKIDDI is a patent pending device.
We need your help to make our product a reality, we are relying on you to get SKIDDI on the road for next winter. We need to order the injection moulding tool and start the production.

Risks and challenges
As with any product manufacturing project, there can be unforeseen risks. Making products can encounter unplanned obstacles along the way, such as manufacturing processes and quality issues. We have selected an excellent partner to ensure an efficient and accurate manufacturing process.
In fact, before launching the campaign we decided to make a deep assessment on the whole supply chain to make SKIDDI a feasible and reliable product. That's the reason why the last tested prototypes were made using 3D professional printers, only according to the rigorous final engineered design that will be used in the injection moulding production.
Moreover, in order to ensure the full Made in Italy production we've selected a highly qualified supplier also for the package.
Our two suppliers (now our friends and great supporters, I must say!) helped us so much in making SKIDDI as much perfect as possible, also trying to save materials, making it strong but light, and lowering the shipping cost without effecting quality.
The only thing that will not come for Italy (sorry about that!) will be the shipping. To save your money and to be able to offer the "shipping costs included" option, we've decided to ship (only for non-EU bakers) through far-eastern forwarders. That's the only feasible option to keep the price affordable for anyone.

We've already performed dozens of tests and verified that SKIDDI can perfectly roll on: asphalt road, off road, rocks, ice, melted snow, light snow, and a mix of them.
Wheels are designed to roll on surfaces thanks to small knurling around them. The weight of skis makes the rest. In fact, once SKIDDI is mounted, the weight of the skis presses down on the ground hard enough to make wheels gripping.
We produced nearly 50 samples of SKIDDI using 3D professional printers. That means the quality of each sample was extremely high and the type of material used was nearly the same that will be injection molded.
As part of our pre-production testing SKIDDI was tested in the field, mounted on a pair of ski, even pulled by a car over an asphalt road, speeding at 15 m/h, froze it in a freezer, dropped it from 1st floor height.
We perfectly know that 3D printing, even if made with professional machines, does not offer as an output, a product with the same technical features than a 220 tonnes injection molding machine does. Nevertheless, testing 3D printed prototypes gave us enough information to make the best product we can.
SKIDDI will be produced using an injection molding machine. SKIDDI will consist in three main parts: the body (one single piece), the covers (two pieces), the caddy (a single piece that includes two wheels).
Materials will be used differently. In fact, for caddy, which is the most critical part, we will be using polyamide PA66 compounded with 30% of fiber glass; the body using polyamide PA66, while covers using polypropylene PP.
Other elements will be mixed in the compounds in order to give SKIDDI, wheels moreover, the highest and most suitable properties to make it resisting to thermal shocks, UV degradation and longevity in terms of service life.
Final selection of the best compound will be made after hard testing the first batch of injection molded SKIDDIs.
We’ll be providing full service spare parts and warranty replacements. SKIDDI has been designed to be incredibly strong and assembled from the highest quality parts and materials.
