Alpha is Coming! Alpha is Coming!
Hi HEXers! It's the first week of October. How many of you are celebrating the very best holiday of them all-- Halloween, of course-- by dressing up as HEX characters? I know I need to find myself some mandibles and extra legs! We're going to make this month extra awesome with the Alpha release of HEX, currently scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th. We hope it's the best thing since free candy, but that'll be for you to judge.
Twitch Stream - Tuesday, October 8th at Noon PDT
We'll be streaming on Tuesday, October 8th at Noon on our Twitch page. It's Crypto vs. the Community. In one corner, we have the Cory Jones! In the other, we have none other than Colin McRavey!
An aside, Colin has been an incredible community member. He's truly gone above and beyond any expectations. He's personally run contests to bring other HEX fans to Gen Con, he went to Dragon Con to make sure everything said there was available on TheHexVault.com to fans who couldn't make it, and he's brought people into the game through Slacker Backer gifts. He even brings us cupcakes when he visits the office for Wednesday game night! Colin has been an incredible fan both online and in-person, so when we were thinking of ways to kick off the Alpha launch of HEX, we instantly thought of him. So, thank you to all for supporting HEX, but a special thank you to Colin for being such an incredible friend to the game and friend to the community.
Client Update and Alpha Forum
On Monday, we're going to create an Alpha subforum in the HEX section of the Cryptozoic forums That'll be the place to discuss the alpha specifically, as well as discuss bugs you've reported via the client bug tool. You'll also find a sticky forum post that we'll update nightly with alpha information. HEX team members are working over the weekend and we're racing against the clock to finish packaging the client and getting it ready for Tuesday.
You'll want to check that forum post for any information on alpha such as: any potential delays on the alpha client release, when we've sent out group invites to the alpha, scheduled downtime, updates to the client, patch notes, and anything else that falls under the "Alpha" umbrella. You can also follow the HEXTCG Twitter for any update news, announcements, or messages.
Rules and Set List
HEX team members are currently finalizing a downloadable Set 1 spoiler, as well as a quick rules guide for anybody unfamiliar with Trading Card Games. Hopefully the streams, website, and videos have given you a general idea of how the game plays, but we wanted to have an introductory document available to help new players along. In the future, the tutorial will play the primary role of teaching people how to HEX.
When those documents are ready, we will highlight them on the HEXTCG.com homepage.
Alpha is Alpha
Since there's no NDA, you're all free to stream and create content as you wish. Typically publishers don't allow this since alphas are buggy and any prospective players may get confused that the alpha product is the final product. However, this is the game you all helped build, and we want you to feel free to do what you want to do. Please just note that this is an alpha build whenever you're creating content and make sure it's emphasized throughout any content you're creating. That will avoid any confusion with potential new players. Thank you in advance.
Since you're out there helping other gamers see how much fun HEX is and how great the community is, we don't want your friends to be left out. So, we're keeping Slacker Backer available during the alpha and when we eventually take it down sometime in the future, we'll give people a heads-up so anybody on the fence about joining can get in before that window closes.
Jobbies from the Job Tree!
The HEX team is growing and we know you want more content from us. So, we're looking for a Community Manager to come to California and be one of the faces of HEXTCG. Where better to look than our own HEX backers? You'd be joining our small but growing team doing everything from improving our social media presence to creating gameplay videos to collecting community feedback for the R&D team.
We're looking for someone who's deeply passionate about HEX, is a great communicator, has experience generating content across all different platforms/mediums, and has experience in data analysis in order to show other teams within HEX how the community programs are performing against goals you've set.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, check out the job listing. Then strap on your job helmet, put your resume and cover letter in a job cannon, and send it on over.
We eschewed our weekly card preview on HEXTCG.com to give our HEX fan websites an opportunity to show off some Set 1 cards. If your website wasn't chosen, don't worry. We only had a limited amount of cards to show. We'll have PVE previews and Set 2 previews coming up in the future.
