New Cards and HEX at Gen Con!

Hi HEXers. Once again, we make Friday the best day of the week with your HEX update!

Chest Slot IRL

We have all your t-shirt orders and we're printing over 500 of these shirts to send to you, the HEX community. Thank you for all your continued support and we'll begin the process of making the shirts this month with the plan to ship them in August.

Gen Con

As if that wasn't enough for the month of August, we'll be at Gen Con Indianapolis. With the help of our sponsors at Nvidia and Alienware, we're having a LAN party right in the middle of North America's biggest gaming convention. No need to bring your rig or any cards-- we've got you covered on both, and you'll be able to win prizes like the Ozawa, Cosmic Elder alternate art card. If you're attending the best four days in gaming, you'll want to read Drew Korfe's announcement.

You Dragon Lords, Primals, Immortals, and Producers are all invited to the Gen Con dinner as well. Thank you to everyone who responded with their RSVP over the last week. If you have yet to email HEXRewards and plan on attending the Gen Con dinner, please email within the next seven days so we can finalize our plans and get all that information out to the attendees. Thank you.

New Cards

Now that you're familiar with the PVP Champions, you can start building the framework for your decks. From now until HEX alpha launch, we'll be showing you two new cards in each Friday update. Today's update features a card that blows up the entire world, as well as an Orc beater who's more brawn than brains.

When you're an Orc, really, it's the brawn the matters. Read up on Mike Rosenberg's card preview today.

Join the HEX Team

Cryptozoic is looking to add a senior engineer with Unity and C# experience. You would, of course, need to be a huge TCG nerd like everyone here at Cryptozoic. You'd be joining the core engineering team working on HEX and help create even more features for the game. Please send your resume and salary requirement to

That's all for today. Tune in next week, same bat time, same bat channel for even more HEX news. Enjoy the weekend and please remember to Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter, subscribe on Youtube, follow us on Twitch, and register for the forums

totally agree with you. as an international backer, its near impossible for me to attend any Cons.
however, the game being digital is meant so that the world could kinda converge and participate. no need having your pals over at your place. so many they might consider this for future functions.. such a shame i wont be able to join you guys at GEN con. all the best peeps. wishing you all a successful launch

I hope you guys will reconsider using the untradeable Mercenaries (with unique game mechanics) as promotional items. Promos should be unique cosmetic, novelty, vanity effects. By giving away unique mechanics you're just asking for some future game content to be broken by interactions with Mercenaries that only a tiny fraction of your player base has access to.

Are the Gen Con rewards exclusive to Gen Con? I notice that you didn't use the word "exclusive", and I just wanted verification that this was the case.

They did say that alpha would likely be about 3 weeks before beta... and beta is scheduled for sometime in September currently (though with game development these things are never set in stone). That could mean alpha the beginning of September with beta starting at the end. The whole thing could slip and we might not see it for a few months (cross your fingers that doesn't happen).

What would be awesome is if they managed to push out Alpha by GenCon and let those of us with Alpha access participate in this stuff without actually attending GenCon, and giving us a chance at some of those rewards. ;)

@Crypto: I would love to come work for you guys, unfortunately I'm not at senior level yet :(.
Good luck with all the *Cons.

Any idea where at GenCon you guys will be set up for league play? Dealer hall, electronic games hall, or somewhere else?

Yes, those gameplay videos looked pretty good, and you know why? OPTIMUM CONDITIONS. It was done in a heavily controlled environment, with people right there to help immediately fix or correct any issues that may arise.

It's also far from indicative of how the game (or servers) will handle a group of people. And while there are programming tricks and programs to help simulate players on the servers, it still doesn't actually equate to the same number of real players on the same server.

And yes, it is Alpha, which means there are quite easily LARGE chunks of content likely missing. And you know what? That's expected for alphas. As someone whose actually participated in a few Alpha tests for games, you shouldn't be wanting to go into the alpha and think "Alright, I get to play this game earlier now, yeah!".

It's not "just the alpha". It's the barest form of the game, and honestly they probably shouldn't be letting just anyone (and I'm including backers in this as well) into the alpha state of the game. For the sole fact that, most likely, an ignorant group will rise up and start up more crap than it was worth throwing access out to everyone, having only played the alpha for that sole fact of "they just wanted something to play and this sux cause nothin is in game".

@Matt and anybody else complaining there's no alpha yet. Alpha will be a mess, no offense to Crypto, but I've never seen a game in Alpha stages be any more than stress tests on the software/hardware once people outside the dev team get on it. The dev team know what things should be done, players will try any dammed thing to see what works, which will find what also breaks.
Obviously it 'works' but how many people have been on the servers using it at once? how many of the dungeons (and there's supposed to be loads at launch) are fully finished? Yeah we might be able to do some pvp, but are they ready for over 10k people to hammer the servers all at once?

Even when the alpha/beta is available, be ready for queues, crashes, bugs etc, that's part of the experience of being a tester. But it's also a really cool gift to be able to play this game before release and be the first players to do a lot of these things. I'm really looking forward to it, and plan to not complain when stuff goes wrong, I expect it to.

Ugh, really... still no alpha yet? The gameplay video's posted months ago looked well enough to be alpha, we understand it isn't the final form of the game and it could be totally revamped, but it's just the alpha. At least it lets us in the game, and with the data you collect from our playing the beta and final versions can be dramatically better

It's annoucements like this that make me wish I was a fully skilled programmer instead of someone who dabbles and is fairly decent consider at programming.

I'll be graduating by the end of the year and I live in Los Angeles. Should consider pooling from your community for internships as well xD.

Thanks for the reply about Alpha, it at least kinda tells us "don't get your hopes up too much" I'll just wait till august for a alpha announcement I suppose.

Speaking as someone who LOVED Insurrection in Magic The Gathering... part of me is really, really, REALLY, digging some destruction at the cosmic level...

Just the idea of throwing out such a big "Screw you!" card on someone... gives me the shivers!

That Job opening sounds extremely inviting. Sadly, I'm only an aspiring Junior Engineer fresh out of University with a double degree in game development. Also a slight issue being Australian, and not situated in California.

Can't really say at this time, Stefan. We're a ways out from being able to announce a specific Alpha date.

    15. Stefan Dapper on July 5, 2013

How much more Updates will we see before the Alpha?

I'll have final numbers once we put in the official order in a few weeks.

    17. Kristan Alicesun on July 5, 2013

I ordered an Ardent shirt. Looking forward to getting it! So how did that 500 shirts break down? How many Ardent, Underworld, or HEX shirts orders did you get?
