About this project
In GHOSTBUSTERS: THE BOARD GAME II, one to four players take on the roles of the Ghostbusters. You'll investigate the mood slime that has flooded the city, causing earthquakes and riots in an attempt to bring Vigo and his minions back. The three brand-new campaigns have you taking on spectral threats like the Scoleri brothers, riding the Statue of Liberty, and battling through Vigo’s ghost army. The game features figures based on original designs by Dan Schoening and an original story by Erik Burnham, both veterans of IDW’s Ghostbusters comic book series.
The world is in danger! Are you ready to answer the call again?

Our miniatures utilize a 95-degree PVC process, making them sturdy and detailed, yet not brittle. The size of our minis varies from humans to ghosts, but our average sizes are 30mm, 50mm, and 100mm. Corporeal characters come in grey, spectral entities are translucent purple, and Plazms are translucent pink. Miniatures come unpainted.
For instructions on how to include add-ons with your pledge, please refer to the FAQs below.
From Zachary Hany of Four Faced Buddha and based on art from Dan Schoening, we have a custom-made Ghostbusters Firehouse that uses the techniques of Collapsible Construction to turn a flat board into a sturdy, working Dice Tower without the need of glue, scissors, or a paranormal quantum degree. It's simply a pop and click from flat to constructed and you can collapse it at any time for ease of use, storage, and transportation.
Here's how it works:
We are very happy to announce that we are offering several language choices for both Ghostbusters games.
GHOSTBUSTERS: THE BOARD GAME 2: (Any Tier)
GHOSTBUSTERS: THE BOARD GAME 1: (From the Add-ons)
You will be able to choose your preferred language in the Pledge Manager as a dropdown menu after the campaign. Also, please note that if you select Ghostbusters: The Board Game (the first game) as an add-on, you'll receive it before the other pledge items, add-ons, and stretch goals regardless of your language choice.
Click the link so you can show your Ghostbusters: The Board Game II pride on Kickstarter or other social media. As we unlock certain stretches, check back and maybe you'll find some new avatars to add to your collection!
By putting this project on Kickstarter, we get to collaborate with the most important people in the world to us: the fans! You get a chance to tell us what you want from the game and we’ll do whatever we can to make it happen. The more support we get from you, the more extras we can include with the Kickstarter versions of the game. We’re talking EXCLUSIVE stuff you can’t get anywhere else!
Kickstarter also gives you the chance to get the version of the game you want: You get to choose from a menu of awesome add-ons and tiers!
Shipping information - Please take note
Shipping will be charged after the Kickstarter campaign ends through our Pledge Manager. The amount charged will be based on the ACTUAL cost required to ship you your games, stretch goals, and add-ons. Depending on where you are on this big planet we call home, we’ll either ship from the EU, Asia, Australia (Australia and New Zealand backers), or here in the States (backers in the U.S.A. and the rest of the world).
To give you a general sense of shipping costs, it will likely cost around $10 to ship to the U.S., $15 to Australia, $15-$25 to the EU and Canada, and $50 to South America and certain parts of Asia. Please remember: these are rough ESTIMATES so the cost of shipping may be higher/lower depending on the stretch goals unlocked, the tiers you specify, the add-ons you select, and other choices you make (remember, kids: always make good choices in life!).
They say there are no guarantees in life, but that just ain’t true: You have our guarantee that we will do everything to get you all your rewards as quickly as possible and before it hits retail. Through Kickstarter, you’re getting a special version of the game at a special price, with exclusive items you can’t get anywhere else! Thanks for your support and for being the best fans in the world (a little bit of flattery never hurts, right?).
This game is EU and AUS friendly. If for some reason your courier charges you VAT fees, we will reimburse you. However, we are not responsible for taxes incurred in other countries outside of the EU (including but not limited to Brazil, etc.)
Risks and challenges
The estimated delivery date for Ghostbusters: The Board Game II is the end of Q2 2017. However, please keep in mind that this is a projected date and things can get delayed for various reasons: manufacturing problems, haunted shipping freighters, rivers of slime flowing through the streets. As a company that has produced many board games, we at Cryptozoic know that delays can occur during the production and shipping of a game. We promise you that we will produce a high quality game and we will not short change our fans by taking ANY shortcuts to make a specific date. As always, our goal is to send you the most incredible board game you’ve ever played. Should there be any delays, we will notify all backers immediately.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The Kickstarter runs from Monday, April 11th at 10AM PT to May 9th 10:00AM PT
Our fulfillment partner is Shipwire.
Our miniatures are being made of Phthalate Free PVC 95 degrees plastic. This is one of the hardest plastic which retains a high amount of detail from the original sculpt, and is also very durable and will hold up well under use. Our miniatures come pre-assembled and with their own base and are unpainted.
They range from 30mm - 100mm
Ghosts will be a translucent purple, plazm will be translucent pink, and corporeal characters will be gray. The Ghostbusters will have snap on color bases.
All backers will have their games by May, 2017.
No they will not. We have adjusted our production schedules to ensure that all backers will receive their games before retail.
CZE Exclusive means that there will be a limited print run of these items. They will never be available at retail, but we may offer them for sale on the Cryptozoic eStore, at conventions, or in future Kickstarter campaigns. Once the VERY LIMITED print run runs out, they will not be re-printed in this form again. How many we print is directly influenced by the number of backers we have at the campaigns conclusion.
This does not apply to previous campaigns.
After setting up the page we realized our mini’s count was off by 1 because of the Ecto-1a, the base game pledge should have stated 54 minis, not 53 as it currently does. As others have stated this number cannot be edited. Thus, the final count of Minis in the base game before the campaign started was 54, not 53 as stated. After we unlocked the Statue of Liberty and Gimme Grabber goals this number was pushed to 56 minis which is the final count for the base game (though keep in mind that Gimme Grabber is an exclusive for Ghostbuster Tiers and above and will not be included in the base game box with all the other base game content, but by itself in a separate box).
The statement on each of the Brian Matter, Soar Throat, and X-Cop goals: “Unique Miniatures Sculpt for Ghostbusters Tier and Above” vs “Miniature Upgrade for Ghostbusters Tier and Above” on Lady Liberty was meant to point out these three would be adding variety to Class 1, 2 and 3 ghost lineups, without changing total mini’s count. For clarity, below are how the figures are re-arranged after respective stretch goals were met:
10 Class 1 Street Creepers become 5 Street Creepers and 5 Brain Matter
8 Class 2 Snake Heads become 4 Snake Heads and 4 Soar Throats
6 Class 3 Mail Frauds become 3 Mail Frauds and 3 X-Cops
All Proton Slinger only unlocks ARE additional figures and will each increase the total mini count.
Unique Miniatures Sculpt for Ghostbusters Tier and Above. These $25k stretch goals allowed us to create more variety in the base game by allowing us to have an additional Class 1, 2, and 3 ghosts without changing the total number of ghosts. The game was designed with the current number of ghosts in mind, but these stretch goals allowed us to give you more options in your game play.
The pledge manager will run start on May 19th and run approximately one month.
We will be accepting late pledges in the pledge manager. However, stretch goals will only be unlocked during the Kickstarter campaign.
If you are unable to pledge money during the course of the campaign, you may add additional funds during the pledge manager.
This campaign is EU and AUS friendly! That means we will be shipping your game from fulfillment centers within the EU and AUS respectively.
We will be notifying backers as final details of our new fulfillment partners are ready to be announced.
No, shipping will be collected after the campaign during the pledge manager. Due to the potential variability in pledge configurations, this will allow us to charge appropriate shipping costs for each backer. Approximate shipping charges are as follows. Remember, these are rough estimates so shipping may be higher or lower depending on the stretch goals unlocked, the tiers you specify, the addons you select, and other choices you make.
US - $10
AUS - $15
EU - $15-$25
CA - $15-$25
South America, certain parts of Asia - $50
If you are interested in just pledging for specific addons, you can! Pledge the $1 tier, and then add up how much your total addon cost would be and adjust your total pledge amount to reflect that cost.
Just add the appropriate total to your pledge. If you want, for example 2 “Proton Slinger” pledges with all the stretches, just pledge the “Proton Slinger” level ($125) and manually add the amount of add-ons you want on top of the tier. In this example, you would manually adjust your total pledge to be $250. You will select your addons in the pledge manager after the campaign is over.
Pledge the total dollar value of all of the pledges you want. After the kickstarter closes, you will use our pledge manager to tell us exactly which rewards you would like to receive. You will also be receiving multiples of all stretch goals for each additional pledge.
Per Kickstarter, you can pledge up to 10 copies of the game.
Yes! Select items from our first Kickstarter campaign are available as addons. Please see our addon section for more information. These will be available during the campaign and in the pledge manager.
Ghostbusters: The Board Game II (in the Ghostbusters Tier)- $85
Slimer's Sea Fright - $30
Louis Tully’s Plazm Phenomenon - $30
We are also very happy to announce that we are offering several language versions for you to choose from.
GHOSTBUSTERS: THE BOARD GAME 2: (Any Tier)
GHOSTBUSTERS: THE BOARD GAME 1: (From the Add-ons)
The Tully and Slimer expansions will also be offered in:
Yes it does. Scenario cards and tiles from the first campaign are not included.
All figures will be cast in the new plastic in a light grey.
Currently, we are quoting box options so at this point we don't know if all of them will receive the same style of packaging. The Slimer and Tully expansions will have retail boxes as well as the Resin Minis Pack. Per the exact box graphics you see, they are currently just representations since all are pending approvals and subject to change.
Yes you do.
Besides the lack of a Slime Pack and a way to trigger the Ecto-Tank, the old character cards can be played in the new game. The new character cards provide an automatic equipment gain, but the older characters will need to investigate Goo Piles to find them. If a team is made of a mix of old and new characters, there should be enough balance to utilize the sequel’s new features.
There’s 100% compatibility
Any new rules that contradict the old rules override the previous game (unless it’s a typo/mistake, which we would resolve before printing).
Slime Type does not affect old Ghosts. Their Slime Type is a standard “-1 Action.”
A ghost can only be shot with a proton pack
A plazm can only be shot with a slime blower
A haunted human can be shot with either a proton pack or a slime blower
Yes! We have included an advanced variant rule set for including traps into your game. It will include new actions/maneuvers like Deploy/Retrieve, Trap, and Wrangle.
The games are fully compatible. Forwards and backwards, with the only exception being the Ecto-Tank.
The playable characters from GBI don’t have a way to use the Plazms they Deposit into the Ecto-Tank. In order to be able to use the stored Plazms, at least one Ghostbuster has to have an Ecto-Tank ability. Furthermore, there are no Plazms in the first game, so using the GBII Ghostbusters in GBI’s scenarios will leave them unable to use the Ecto-Tank.
Gladly! You can use any of the Entities from GBII in the Scenarios for GBI and any of the Entities from GBI in the Scenarios for GBII. Adding a measure of diversity to the Ghosts on the map can be exhilarating! You can also use the Ghostbusters from either game in teams, mixing them up to make your own dream team. Can you intermingle Boss Ghosts? Definitely! Bring Samhaim or Stay Puft into the new game, or take the Washington Square Ghost into the first one. Do you want to add Equipment to your Slimer campaign? Drop some Goo Piles onto the map! The best part of meshing is that you can make maps that utilize the tiles from both the first and second games! We’ve had a lot of fun in the office making maps that use a large number of tiles.
If you implement anything from the second game, you must allow your Ghostbusters to start each Scenario with either Slime Blower Packs or Proton Packs, and allow for switching back and forth between them, as per the rules of the second game. As long as you do that, you’re all set to play through the Scenarios from the first game. Beyond that, you are free to add in whichever Ghosts you please, put some Plazms on top of Goo Piles, and—above all else—have a great time!
Are there any rules or text adjustments I have to make in order to combine the previous game and this one?
Nope. The Ghosts from the first game all still use -1 Action Slimes if you play with them in the second game. The GBI Ghostbusters don’t automatically get Equipment, so you’ll have to chase down Goo Piles on the map to get your hands on some. No rules change at all!
Will you be releasing a document that explains how to place Goo Piles onto maps that don’t already have them?
Yes! Keep your eyes peeled for this in the very near future.
- Both Ivo and the Spectral Ghostbusters drain XP from your Ghostbuster. For the purposes of GBII characters, when you reach a level that allows you to draw an Equipment Card, you only draw it the first time you make it to that level. If you somehow lose enough XP to go below that level and then gain that XP back, you do not draw another Equipment.
-You can you Rookie's ability to copy an ability from a GBII character that nets an equipment card. However, just like the other Ghostbusters, you can only use that ability once per game. For instance, when you copy Egon’s Level 2 Ability, you can reveal cards from the Equipment Deck until you get a Utility Card, but you can only copy that ability once since this is an ability that Egon himself can only use once per game (i.e., the Rookie is bound by the same restrictions on an ability as the character from which he copies it). This does mean, however, that if multiple Ghostbusters have a Level 2 Ability that gets them Equipment, the Rookie can use his ability on all of them and really become a powerhouse in the Equipment department.
- Any references to the Ecto-1 and the Ecto-1a refer to whichever of the vehicles is on the map. If there is an instance where it would matter, it will be noted on that card’s text.
- You can use original Ghostbusters with Slime Packs, you’ll have to find a way to signify which pack you are using so that you don’t lose track of it. All playable characters can switch between Slime Blower and Proton Pack, regardless of the presence of a reverse to the card or a mini to represent it.
